I have a budget question. Has anyone been to BG over fourth of July? Is it worth the $$ to do the buffet "picnic in the park" to get good seats for fireworks?

I have been there for the 4th of July, and considered doing that buffet just for the meal alone. It seemed like a good deal, when you compare it to the prices of the food they have there.

Also..get there EARLY on 4th of July. The place is extremely crowded. It probably took us at LEAST 45 minutes to get through the parking attendant to pay to park, the maze to park (we ended up in one of the overflow lots), shuttle to the front gates (we didn't need to buy tickets), go through security, go through the ticket area.

The place is nuts nuts nuts...it's fun though, but we won't do it again.

As for the fireworks, we were told (it's been 3 years, so things may have changed) that if you could see the balloon in the sky, it was a good viewing area. There was a LOT of the park that you could view from. We chose to view from..I want to say it's Italy? Which is really close to the entrance so it would be easier to get out. We were packed in sardines though, by the time it was starting!! We sat on those benches right outside that ride that swings back in forth (again, three years..fuzzy )and is in front of the little kiddie balloon ride. Some of the trees obstructed the view of some of the fireworks from that spot, but that was ok. Still pretty! I did NOT want to be way in the back of the park at 10:30 at night trying to get through. The park is huge already..let alone having to walk at a snail's pace..I wanted to be as close to the entrance as possible.

Thanks for poting the menu and prices! Wouldn't cost us much more than we spent last weekend in Das Festhause - and we shared entres' and drank water - well, except one beer.

Do they have fireworks just on the 4th - or possibly on Friday rhe 3rd too?

We've done it before. The food was good. Being at the buffet allows you to enter the viewing area earlier. However, when the gates open to the general public it still gets quite crowded back there and for this reason, we probably won't do it again.
