The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Kyle wanted me to thank all of you for the birthday wishes, he thanks y'all for being my family.:grouphug: He made me cry when he said that, I guess I'm very emotional today.:sad2:

He's a great kid! I had a pic saved for months now of a cake from the cake thread that says Happy Birthday Kyle...but its on my desk top and that has been acting funny and I cant get the dang pic...I so wanted to post that picture. I will try after the game. Love ya!

****
Ann, great news!

OK gotta run!

Dr. Update-
All was great. Emma is head down and resting on my back. (Could be reason for recent hip issues) Her heartbeat was 148. I passed my Strep B test, and all is measuring perfect. My BP was 110/65, and I lost 3 lbs. Next week starts internals to see how I am progressing.

BBL to catch up.

Ann

Perfect!!!!
I was hoping you would post soon, the nerves were starting:cloud9:

Ace is still with us but I am confident that there is a home out there for him. In the meantime, when I come home to his happy face and wagging tail, I remind myself just how much Ace’s thankful spirit has taught me about my own relationship with my Savior."

Aimee - You are truly gifted, that was awesome!:goodvibes

It's the thought that counts, you're so sweet!

Aimee ~ You are a very blessed young woman. You had me in tears as I also get what you are saying. I love my fur babies and TOTally understand. Thank the Lord for people like you!!!

Ann ~ great news. Not to long now. Now get those feet up and rest. I wish I was there to help you.

Kathy, Happy Birthday to Kyle! I hope he is having a great day.

Nancy, congratulations on the lifetime goal! That is very impressive.

Sheryl, I bet you are in the pool right now! :)

Aimee, did you share that essay with your congregation? Maybe you'll inspire one of the parishoners to adopt him!

I just made an omelet for dinner last night:

It got a little too brown because I was chatting on the phone with Laura while making it. It did not matter though, I wasn't very hungry so I did not eat much of it. I did pick out and eat all of the orange sections though.

Tonight I am trying out a recipe from the new cooking light grilling cookbook, for chicken skewers in a pomeganete-orange glaze. The chicken chunks are alternated with orange chunks.

Becky - I've said it before but you just amaze me, especially when it comes to cooking eggs. You make the most gorgeous eggs I've ever seen!:worship:

Bethany ~ The end is sooooooo close now. Hang in there!!

Katie and Joselyn are doing just ok. Katie is being dismissed today, but Joselyn is still in the NIC unit. They haven't even been able to hold her yet. She is on a ventalator as her little lungs were just not ready yet. It is just tearing them up but they will be okay as will the baby. It is just going to take time. Katie is recovering and that is a great thing. Her kidney is almost back to normal with no real damage. And that is a good thing. Thanks for all of the prayers and good thoughts.

When it does you will be able to see the corn grow. Really - you can!!

Thanks! :goodvibes

SEE the corn grow? What? :confused3

I'm glad to hear that Katie is getting back to normal. I will keep praying for Joselyn.

Good Morning All,
Bethany, if there are twins they keep them together! I would love that!

Mini-Meet Girls ~ I'm thinking The Chart House in Weehawken (& Bethany could take the train) or Westchester (Bethany via train)....or NYC & I could pick up Nan & Marisa in Westchester & go right into NYC...could we take a PM vote?
Mini-meet gals, I'm really excited!
BBL

That is great they would keep twins together!

I do not know the restaurant you speak of. I will have to investigate! I am getting really excited too! It's coming up next weekend! :woohoo:

I am now in my new office, though I still left a closet full of stuff in my old office. I did get my art hung, you know, the important stuff

Ace is Ace - sweet as pie, slightly naughty, but still homeless. Sure you don't want a companion when you move to NOLA?

That is great that you are mostly moved. :thumbsup2 I am waiting for that day... ;)

I don't know about the dog...I do know I want one! The story you wrote about him is so sweet. :goodvibes

Ann....those numbers mean nothing to me, but I'm glad to hear all is well with you and Emma! :goodvibes

So today at work we had a workshop on colored dots that lasted 2 hours. AND the principal made everyone stay an extra half hour because they were late to the meeting in the morning. They put out the agenda just before 8, and people did not know where to be, except for a few of us that had seen the agendas. Instead of making an announcement, the principal just stood at her podium scowling and drumming her fingers. :confused3 I got to leave on time because I was one of the 9 people that went to the meeting on time. :thumbsup2

Then they were going on and on about all these "new initiatives" that they are starting NOW. WTH?!? We have THREE WEEKS LEFT. I do not have TIME to do all that...we have paperwork and cleaning to do! And there is a "learning walk" (read: they come in and make sure you have everything "in place") NEXT WEEK! I just want to finish the required paperwork (and it's a TON) and shove everything in the closet (we have to lock up EVERYTHING and do full tear-downs) and hand in the keys. BUH BYE!

Kyle

Ann Glad everything is going well with you and the baby.

Bethany Your time there is getting shorter :woohoo:

Aimee You should share Ace's story with your parishoners and before and after pictures.

Ellen I am glad to hear the baby is doing as well as can be expected. Continued prayers for mom and baby.

Alex's non-graduation was long. It sure seemed like a graduation to me :confused3. they had over 500 kids graduationing from 8th grade .

Tonight is the library so BLT's and chips with side of fruit.

Bethany- So close, you can make it.

Becky- I stopped putting butter on bread, that picture just about did me in. I made foccia today and I'm starting to wonder if maybe a little butter wouldn't hurt.

Ann- Glad things went well. I'm not sure how I feel about the weiner sauce, I know my husband would love it though. I like goulden's mustard, saurkrout, and minced onion.

Aimee- I know it wasn't your intent, but may that will help get him a home. I don't think it was overly religious, just enough. I have a very dear friend who sends out newletters on her personal life- they are over the top, but she has no problem traveling to other countries telling people they have the wrong religion. I think it was very well written, and wherever Ace ends up, he will have helped make you into the person you are today. You are truly to be admired. I just had a long car ride with my daughter talking about my dog that died last summer so I'm a little animal sentimental at the moment.

If I'm not back before then, see you all next week.

Becky, that sounds so good. Please post if you like it.

Bethany, I think it will be the Chart House for sure....I can always pick you up so you would only have to take the train one way. I have a GPS, so no need to worry.

Aimee, that essay is just inspiring. :grouphug:

I have some news on Leona~ the mass didn't get larger but it didn't get smaller either so it isn't an infection as we had hoped. Monday they do some simple testing & Wednesday they will scope her & then biopsy. She will have her next appointment June 18th for the results & then decide what the next step is.

I know I'm a bad mom but no no pictures. I was running around like a chicken with no head getting things ready to go and we were in the nose-bleed section. I was going to get pictures afterward but the temp dropped into the 50's and I forgot my coat.

This weekend I plan on doing a redo for the pictures. I will make the kid get into his dress shirt and pants ;) He will just love me don't you think.

There were so many occasions I forgot to take pics or something came up where I didn't have my camera.....not the sign of a bad Mom. He's such a great kid, he'll do the re-do with a smile I'm sure.

I have discovered a new way to make mashed potatoes. I feel so proud of myself. ^.^

I found the apple corer and sliced an apple... and then I figured I'd try it on a potato and it worked (well the little red skinned ones).
So now I cut them up with the corer, boil until thier cooked, then I peel some of the skin off. And then mash in the pot.
mmm yummy mashed potatoes... i'm having some tonight.

Glad things are looking so good!!

Aimee ~ You are a very blessed young woman. You had me in tears as I also get what you are saying. I love my fur babies and TOTally understand. Thank the Lord for people like you!!

You're very kind. I don't do nearly enough for animals, my friends who are in rescue work just amaze me. I don't think I have the strength to do it, honestly.

When I sat and wrote it, I bawled the entire time. I'm such a weenie :sad2:

Aimee, did you share that essay with your congregation? Maybe you'll inspire one of the parishoners to adopt him!

Yes, it was written for the church newsletter... I have to write the article every few months.

Aimee You should share Ace's story with your parishoners and before and after pictures.

I ran a sweet picture of him with the article - his face is everywhere right now as it's posted in the elevators and on all the bulletin boards.

Mixed news, huh? At least it's not growing but I'm sorry it's not shrunk.

A church member emailed today and is interested in Ace :yay: He is going to call me tomorrow and set up a time for me to bring Ace over to visit.

I worked until 8pm tonight but I think I got enough done to be able to work from home tomorrow. It haven't had a day off in awhile and while it's summer and I have WAY too much to get done, I need downtime at home to reenergize. I'm just one of those people. So, the files came home and the rest came be done in my recliner.

Tonight was Chick Fil A for me, Taco Bell for DH!

Good Morning!

Today feels like Saturday. :headache:

We have another field trip today. I don't know if I can handle this! :lmao: Who wants to take bets on what goes wrong this time?

I know, I know....such negative thinking....but since something ALWAYS goes wrong on the field trips, it's actually positive thinking....as in, I'm POSITIVE that SOMETHING will go awry! :rotfl2:

Have a great day everybody!

Good Morning Ladies! It is going to be rainy rainy rainy here so I am prepared for Buddy to come home.

Aimee- Oh my goodness, your story was beautiful! As Robin said, you have given Ace a boost in getting him a good home. I know you were writing from your heart and were not trying to place him with your thoughts but I agree that your thoughts let people see past the word "dog" to see the lifelong friend that he is.

Robin-

Kathy- I always get a little sentimental teary when one of my children reaches a benchmark time in their lives. Kyle's so very adult observations and his protectiveness toward you is reason for those tears

Becky- I would have eaten your omelet even if I was not hungry. I love eggs but mine never look like yours :confused3

Laura- You have such a positive outlook in life! Start stocking up for your Airborne Ranger!

Maria- I was hoping that the news would not be mixed. Prayers continuing for a positive outcome for Leona. Chart house sounds good to me! We had a Chart house in Simsbury, Marisa had a fabulous meal there. I wonder if it is the same :confused3

Janice- Don;t feel badly about the pictures. If you ask my kids they will tell you what a real bad Mom is........picture wise

Bethany- I am looking forward to today's trip report....................

Ann- getting there..........:cloud9:

Ellen- thank you for the update on the new Princess and her Mom

Dinner is :confused3 once again. We were planning on setting on Saturday so we were scheduled to be pulling plants last night and tonight. Well there is a Noreaster coming this way today so all bets were off. Buddy called off work last night, thank goodness but now he tells me that his friend may not have work for his guys today. So. They may be coming to work in the greenhouse all day. I have a Mamogram and Nola today. I also had errands but now somehow I may need to go back and forth to check on these guys :headache::headache:

I have no idea if I am cooking or if he is getting a ham sandwich.

Good Morning!

We lost our last playoff game last night...Andrew didn't have much action besides getting clocked in the head with a pitch. He is OK but that is the only way he got on base last night. He struck out twice...he lost his ability to make contact with the ball. He better get that back for baseball camp this summer! ;)

Not sure of dinner. Tom may be going out with a friend or his friend may come here. I think he has a laptop that Tom needs to look at. Another thing that Tom dabbles in is computer stuff. Now if he could only put the tools away!!! :rotfl:

Aimee, What a nice article you wrote! I am so glad that a church member is interested in Ace.

Bethany, Good luck on the trip!

Maria, Continued prayers for Leona.

Ann, Please take it easy...our little neice is going to be here soon and Mommy needs all the rest she can get!

Charlene, Love the pics you took!

I lost track of thought...I guess I will BBL to catch up better...I hope everyone has a great day!

Lauren, Ouch....glad A is okay.

Nancy, big rain storms are coming our way. Sorry it is delaying your plans.

Aimee, good luck with ACE. I hope all goes well at the meeting and he finds a home.

Bethany, I hope the field trip goes smoothly.

Kathy, what a boy you have. That made me fill up.

Maria, sending prayers to Leona.:grouphug: I searched the Chart House online, yum...nice menu. Hope you girls have fun at your mini meet.

-----
I have to run some errands and find a UPS to return sandals to Zappos. My little guy has some serious Fred Flinestone wide feet. Sandals I bought him online don't fit, so I am taking him today to a local kids shoe store. Then lunch at my parents.

WFD- because of rain ...DH mentioned going for a drive and getting Fish & Chips instead of grilling.

TGIF !!!!!

Hey all! Getting a slow start here today. Tends to happen after my days working. Good thing we have nothing on the agenda this weekend!:cool1: However, if my agenda included Disney, I wouldn't complain.;) Not sure WFD, I'm hoping for Friday night pizza. But we'll see. Hope everyone has a great day today! For those with the rain, I wish I could send you some of my sunshine! It's gonna be a beautiful day here!
