The Day the Mickey Died - In memoriam: Pal Mickey

Look what I miss when I go on vacation with no internet access!:scared1: Great updates!! I love the fact that Tinkershell did everything humanly possible to try and get that autograph book back, it hurt me to find out that someone else would just take something that wasn't theirs. . .:confused3:confused3

I must confess that I have the WDW bug really bad! I overheard some co-workers talking today, one of them stating that she was going to WDW with her daughters FOR THE FIRST TIME!! I jumped out of my seat and wormed my way into the conversation, telling her everything that she could possibly need to know about going. After the initial shock of my interrupting her conversation, she was delighted and now has a fully planned itinerary. The DIS boards feeds my WDW needs for the most part, but when someone who has never been is going, they must not go without a plan! The Tinkershells of the world unite in non-negotionable itineraries!:goodvibes:goodvibes

P.S. Okay, I have to ask the obvious question, is your avatar your dog dressed up for Halloween?

I was wondering where you went. I'm glad to hear you are reaching out to the less fortunate non-dissers of this world and helping them put together a workable plan.

And....as for the dog....we have a pug ...but he's not the one in my avatar. I just felt the picture captured his essence.

im in love with it so far sorry it took me so long to check it out

"Paging Mr. Morrow... Mr. Tom Morrow. Your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring." DS and I actually dream of riding TTA for an hour straight sometime.

Yep, and we have the They Might Be Giants version of GBBT on our iPods. We're with ya.

In my opinion....these two attractions are the litmus test for how bad you've got the WDW bug. If you know all the words to "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" and you think "Paging Mr. Morrow...Mr. Tom Morrow" is one of the top five funniest lines you've ever heard......you've got it bad.

In our case....it's terminal.

So I very honestly laughed out loud when I read "Paging Mr. Morrow...Mr. Tom Morrow". It seriously is one of the greatest lines at the Magic Kingdom. You can't help but want to finish it "...your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring." Another one to add to that top 5 list is: "Exit to your right please, please exit to your right. When the ride stops, exit to your right please, please exit to your right." Cracks me up every time.
And I must accept the truth that I too know all the words to "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow". Mind if I join in on your illness?

I'm with you on "Stitch" didn't care for it. But, I'm very upset that TTA will be closed this trip. Like pp, I could ride for an hour, esp in the August heat!

Chpt 22 - Yup...we're still....still at MK...that's ok, I luv me some MK. I could read your stories all day!

Hmmmmm....now there's a juicy little idea....we have the theme park track on a cd but have never picked up the "Meet the Robinsons" version.

By the way...you do realize that you're enabling a serious WDW addict here.

Plenty of room....it's a good kind of illness anyway.

I know....MK is so awesome I can't even leave it in my TR. You scared me with the TTA closure by the way....but it'll be back up and running by December so I couldn't be more pleased....um...except about you missing it...because that's bad. Take a couple extra spins on Carousel of Progress....that might ease the pain.

Didn't mean to scare you about TTA, bad choice of words. I should have said it is being "refurbished" in August!

This TR is hysterical! Loving it! We're from the mountain time zone too so we try not to count back how early it really is for our body clocks. Can't wait to read more!

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this yet, but I don't like change. I believe it was American singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash who said "the key to change is to let go of fear"...or was it Roseanne Barr...the emmy award winning star of the popular TV series "Roseanne"....I always get those two mixed up. Anyway, it's really not important who said it. What is important is that they coudn't be more wrong...because change is evil. However, WDW is unique in the sense that you don’t really want them to change stuff.....but it is so much fun when you get to try something new. So far on our trip, we had experienced Expedition Everest for the first time....and we had seen the changes that had been made to Pirates and Haunted Mansion. Next up was another brand new attraction.....Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor.

Apparently, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor replaced a circle-vision 360 film entitled The Timekeeper which was shown in a theater called "Tomorrowland Metropolis Science Center". Now, I'm hesitant to besmirch an attraction I've never seen but....I didn't even know this one existed. So, that's probably not a good sign. On the bright side, if I wasn't even aware of its existence....is it technically even a change? I submit that it is not.

Anyway, in the waiting area before you enter the Laugh Floor auditorium, there were signs encouraging people to text in jokes that may be used in the show. Pal Mickey really wanted to do this. Ok....couple of problems. One..Pal Mickey doesn’t have a cell phone because we had to take it away because he kept exceeding his minutes. And two....even his best joke...which has something to do with an astronaut and mistletoe....is pretty lame.

Once inside, we took our seats and the animated host on the screen started to give us all these sounds and actions we all needed to make to enhance our enjoyment of the show. In the seat next to me was a dad sitting with his family... and he was giving the Monsters nothing. Not a smile....not a snicker...not even a titter....nothing. Even worse, he gave us a very dirty look when I reached over and took his pulse while Pal Mickey held a small mirror in front of his mouth to see if he was still breathing. This is behavior that I just don’t understand. I mean, who exactly are you trying to impress with your no-nonsense attitude....Goofy? Believe me....Goofy is on our side. Anyway, despite our grumpy neighbor, we had a blast. And as an added benefit, I found out that I do a spot-on Roz impression....which I tortured Pal Mickey with for the rest of our trip.

Next, we headed on over to It’s a Small World....because that is Tinkershell’s favorite. On her childhood trip to DL, she had ridden this bad boy and fell in love. Tinkershell has a collection of stories that she tells over and over again. In fact, we’ve all heard these particular stories so many times that the kids and I can finish them for her. One of those oft-repeated stories involved childhood Tinkershell taking a whole roll of film during her maiden voyage on IASW...only to find out later that her camera was broken. Understandably, she was devastated....but she's definately made up for it since them. I'm fairly sure that Tinkershell has photographically recorded every square inch of IASW.

IASW is an interesting ride for me. It’s pretty cool at first. You climb into the boats and, before you know it, you are sailing through a magical multi-cultural world full of singing little people. It's not until about the third set change that my left eye starts to twitch....and then I start repeating my name, rank and serial number over and over again....until inevitably I break down and start blurting out secret things like my ATM pin number. I had to...don’t you see? Otherwise, it was never going to stop.

Like lambs to the IASW slaughter

We had an evening ADR for Liberty Tree Tavern and had strategically booked it so that Wishes would end just before dinner time. Our plan was to siddle on over to Liberty Square and then to watch the fireworks from there. Then, after Wishes was over, we could just slip into the restaurant and enjoy our Thanksgiving feast. It was a fine plan....possibly one of our best. Ok, here’s the problem. Wishes was really loud in Liberty Square. I’m talking “drop to your knees and cover your ears” loud here. To be honest....it didn’t really bother me that much, because I haven’t heard much of anything ever since I went to a Styx “Paradise Theater” concert in the 7th grade and stood too close to a bank of speakers. But for the rest of the family, it was too much...especially Pal Mickey...who has ears that only a mother could love. No matter, we still had plenty of opportunities to see Wishes later in the week. I'm sure we'll be fine.

So we ran for the cover of LTT to enjoy our evening meal. LTT was another first for us on this trip and we all gave it two enthusiastic thumbs up....for a grand total of ten enthusiastic thumbs up...well, maybe more like 8 ½ enthusiastic thumbs up because Pal Mickey thumbs are tiny little nubs. Anyway, LTT was still a character meal at that time and we saw loads of them. We did have one awkward moment when Tinkershell mixed up Chip and Dale....even though Dale has that bulbous red nose that is a clear sign of a chronic heavy drinker. I'm not trying to get Dale in trouble here but....he did seem a little unsteady on his feet. I’m not saying....I’m just saying.

Didn't mean to scare you about TTA, bad choice of words. I should have said it is being "refurbished" in August!

No problem....a nice scare is good for the heart....it gives it a little exercise.

Greetings fellow mountain time zoner. I'm glad you're enjoying the TR

Your kids are so thoughtful!! I'll bet they even help elderly people cross the street!:) (I'm not being sarcastic, I really mean that). Two thumbs up for your Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor maiden voyage! Sorry the man next to you had his funny bone removed. I'm glad that you didn't let it bother you.

And now, a little ditty to leave you with, "It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all......"

I understand Tinkershell's love of IASW. I don't have fond childhhod memories, but my children will.
While standing in line, (already singing), a CM approached my DD and of course, referring to her as Princess, asked her if the young man (my DS) was her Prince. Her response, "Ew! That's just my brother!"
Fortunately the CM had a sanse of humor and did not kick us out of the park for lack of Disney Love!
She pulled us out of line to be guest Cruise Directors. We all went to the control booth and the kids names were announced over the speaker and they waved and told everyone to have a great cruise (as long as the didn't touch any buttons. That would have definately gotten us removed from the park, made headlines, probably thrown in some sort of Disney jail!)
But all turned out well. After some extra "Bon Voyages", we were escorted ahead of everyone else in line, and put in the front of the next ship for our cruise.
Ahhhhhh, Disney Magic!!!:thumbsup2

Too bad Pal Mickey didn't get picked as "that guy" in Monsters Inc - although probably only his oversized ears would have been visible with his height impediment. Still, he can keep a straight face so he would have been good at it!

Hey...I want to be a guest cruise director....or is it just for kids? I know for a fact that Tinkershell sings everytime she rides IASW...but maybe she needs to start earlier when she's in line.

Yeah....if Pal Mickey doesn't have a booster seat...you don't even know he's there.

By the way...somebody from our family did make it on the big screen...but it happened later in the trip....so you'll just have to wait to find out the detail.
