Which way to Disneyland? TR (comparison update 7/26)

Very much enjoying your trip report. Looks like you are having a great time! And you're definitely making me think I need a gps. lol.

Yes, GPS is definitely one of the best inventions ever. I kept thinking how stressed we would have been if we had to rely on a map to get around.

Haha, that looked like it was so much fun!

Yep it was.

That's a great shot you caught of the fireballs and woman standing on the dolphin. So DD wants to train dolphins...DS wants to be a Paleontologist ever since he fell in love with dinosaurs. (Or a plastic surgeon...don't ask, lol)

A churro for dinner....my kids would be happy with that. Geez they're 1.00 at Costco...$14 for 3 of them at Sea World??? That's a little high. Those places rob people!

So are you guys still considering hanging at WDW the week before your cruise? What day does the cruise start? We leave on the 6th but I'm still hoping to get some sort of deal so we can extend the stay to 10 or 12 days.

Isn't it fun to see the different aspirations kiddos have? Well the plan right now is to just hang in Disney for 2-3 nights after the cruise. I think we may just do MVMCP and check out the different resorts. I can't stand paying for 2-3 days admission when it is about the same as 10.

A churro for dinner? There's definitely nothing wrong with that! It is vacation after all :thumbsup2

The dolphin show looked awesome! That's great that you got a picture of the trainer standing on the dolphin's nose!

Thank you for your approval of the churro dinner.:lmao: I feel better already.

Love your SW TR! My DD9 too would love to be a dolphin trainer. As a matter of fact, so would I. In 2007 we did Discovery Cove in Florida and DD and I did the dolphin encounter. Amazing! you get about 20-30 min in the water with a dolphin and then the dolphin pulls you in. I think SW has something similar. If you get a chance, do DC though, the whole park is amazing, limited to 1000 guests a day, and your food and drink (inc. beer and wine for those inclined). Talk about a relaxing day! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear what you thought about the zoo. :listen:

Great shot of the dolphin (or is it the pilot whale?) at night. You should upload it to SW website. :thumbsup2

DD5 had fallen asleep on the way home from SW so I carried her in and we were all quickly to sleep. One great quality my 5 year old possesses is that she can sleep and will sleep just about anywhere no mater the noise level until she is completely rested. Like most mornings DD5 slept almost 2 hours past the rest of us. This morning she just placed the pillow over her head and kept right on sleeping.:goodvibes

The zoo wasn't opening until 10 a.m. and I felt in no rush to get there. I had promised DD8 we would walk along the shore and hunt for seashells first thing in the morning. So, once Sleeping Beauty finally awoke from her slumber we had breakfast then headed to the beach. Once again it was hazy this morning.

On our way we took some pictures around The Del which is the very popular and nice hotel located there in Coronado. The Del is where Marilyn Monroe shot the movie, "Some Like it Hot". Our hotel was right across the street.

There are not a whole lot of complete shells to be found on this shore but it was so fun to hunt for sand dollars! They were everywhere.

These trees with purple petals were all over Coronado and southern California. Does anyone know what they are called? We loved them. We have no trees with purple petals here in Colorado.

Up Next: San Diego Zoo

I love how the sign says "please stay off the statue" :rotfl:
I love your pictures, they're just so darn cute! It's pretty funny how innocent and unknowing the girls are with the fact that they're going to Disneyland soon and don't even know it! :rotfl:

I totally agree. Before we became AP's we went in Dec '06 and did that. We went to the Christmas Party and toured all of the resorts. We stayed at Ft Wilderness that trip so we rented a boat one day and drove all over Bay Lake. It was so much fun. We did a couple of character meals. We went to the Campfire singalong at Ft Wilderness and the kids enjoyed the pool and pony rides. There's a lot to do w/o going into the parks!

Now for your update....OMG I LOVE that tree!!! What is that? I want one in my front yard! The pics of the girls on the rocks are awesome too! The beach is just beautiful there. We used to have natural rocks like that around here but Hurricane Hugo covered them. I miss that beach...we used to go there all the time when I was a kid.

About the shark pic, it's totally fine! I have to admit that when I saw the teeth on that bad boy I couldn't help thinking about my DH though.
The dolphin night show looked amazing! I love animal shows. It's just incredible to me that they can be trained like that. Smart little things!!!!
Make sure you get some great animal pics at the zoo, and if you see another shark, post a pic for me too. Do you happen to know what kind of shark that was? (that you got a picture of)

Yep, they were having a great time even w/o Disney.:goodvibes

Yes, I think Ft. Wilderness will definitely be a stop for us. We'd like to rent either bikes or a golf cart and take a look at everyone's decorations. Pony ride sounds fun for the kids too. And, we've always wanted to do the Chip and Dale Campfire but have never had the time.

The tree is a Dragon Tree. It was imported from overseas but I forget where exactly.

Oh, you're such a good sport! No, I have no idea the kind of shark that was.:goodvibes

I believe that is a Jacaranda tree. They are many of them in So. Cal. and while there are pretty you never want to park under one while in bloom. They drop tons of sticky stuff-almost like Karo syrup!

I love the Cat in the Hat statue! Great photos:thumbsup2

Fun huh?:goodvibes

Two great updates love the pics. A churo sounds good right now:)

Yep, you have to be in the right mood for a churro.

Luckily we didn't park under one then.:goodvibes They are beautiful non the less.;)

Another great update! I love that you are fast with the updates!! :thumbsup2

Thanks, I'm not a fan of pokey TRs.:goodvibes

Well all I have to say about the San Diego Zoo is that it is HUGE! I'd been there as a child but of course could non remember. I did my research and came up with a plan. Unfortunately the size of the park through my plan way off.:scared1:

First, here we are entering through the giant elephant topiaries at the entrance. DD5 is still making the scarey pose we had done for the photog. carmera.:lmao:
085.jpg

The photog. offered to take the picture with my camera, then he proceeded to take his own picture. Too funny.:lmao:
086.jpg

Granita ended up spending almost $80 on shirts for her and the girls and copies of pictures they took. (Sucker:rotfl:) They had us make a scared look then made it look like we had tarantulas and snakes in our hands. It was a cute picture. There was another where DD5 had a Meerkat on her head. They are cute. If I get a copy from Granita I'll scan them in. Granita loves zoos.

So, my plan was to first go see the Panda Bears, then take the bus tour to get our groundings and decide what we wanted a closer look at, then the air tramway.

We immediately asked at the info booth the best way to get to the pandas and set off. Three hours later, (I kid you not) we had still not made it to the pandas. We started by following her directions then took a slight detour to watch the gorilla presentation. Very interesting.
087.jpg

Then we proceeded to get completely lost. So we looked at a few other animals until we got more directions. At some point we went through the aviary and took a wrong path and ended up going to the far lower right part of the zoo by the giraffe when we had been headed to the center top part. So we were walking up very steep hills and found that even the zoo personel had problems explaining how to get to the pandas. We saw a bus and began to walk very fast after it. I had no idea when it's next stop was but I was determined to GET ON THAT BUS. DD5 was in a stroller thank goodness. Lucky for us we did do about 1/4 mile of speed walking but did catch it at one of only 3 stops that it had. You have NO IDEA how happy I was to plop down on that bus and let it take us to the pandas.:worship: (Why hadn't the info lady just suggested this in the first place?) One panda was sleeping in the tree but the other was walking all about. We felt very fortunate to see so much movement.
090.jpg

So, we had made it to the pandas. We had lunch and our next mission was the Polar Bears which on the map was very close. We took this very neat moving bridge through the jungle trees only to find out we took the wrong one. When we ended back up at the aviary exit I was about to sit down and cry.:sad1:While I enjoyed everything the zoo had, it was now hot and I was super frustrated with getting lost over and over again for more than 3 hours.

Luckily two of the most helpful and kind zookeepers walked by right then. I think they could sense my despair because they gave perfect directions on how we could get back down to the entrance, then take the air tram straight to the polar bears. And that is just what we did. All was well with the Universe once again.:goodvibes

The kids zoo was right by the air tram entrance so we went through there first. We saw the tiniest little monkeys (mice size), I should have taken a picture. We did find some photo ops!
093.jpg

Yes, Granita also bought the girls some plush pandas.
095.jpg

096.jpg

We never found the red panda Granita was hunting but when we exited I told her no way was I going to go on another search. Especially since we see the red panda everytime we go to the Denver Zoo.

The air tram was very nice.

102.jpg

It really proved how HUGE the zoo was. Had I done the air tram first I never would have attempted to walk everything first.
101.jpg

At the top of the tram we found our way easily to the Polar Bear and a few other animals.
103.jpg

I had really wanted to do the bus tour but by then we all were pretty tired. So we started to head out. (Which took over an hour.) Granita wanted to look at our pictures. And proceeded to buy one of everything. I couldn't help thinking we should save our spending frenzies for Disneyland but ofcourse I couldn't say that since the girls didn't know. Then Granita and Hope wanted to make a picture postcard. Of course we couldn't remember where that was so we were on another mission to find that. (Are you catching the theme of today yet.) Then our last detour was my fault. We were told that the picture postcards we by the koalas. So, of course I had to go check out the koalas.

We were finally leaving. I did enjoy the zoo but if I ever get to do it again I will very first do the bus tour, then I will take the air tramway to up to the Polar Bears and walk DOWNHILL the pandas.;)

Here the girls are wearing their new shirts.

This would be our last evening in Coronado. Tomorrow we were heading out on a train to an unknown destination!:mickeyjum

I haven't posted since when you first began this TR, but I am still out here, following along. I am loving the pictures and the whole step by step rundown. I haven't been to Coronado (or Sea World and the Zoo, for that matter) in soooooooo long, but your photos made me want to revisit them. Remember I told you a long time ago that you should try visiting Catalina Island? The same thing you said about falling in love with Coronado is what happens when people go to Catalina. It just captures them somehow and they want to go back ASAP! So I think you and the family should make a whole separate trip to SoCal just to do Coronado and Catalina! You will probably be so relaxed and well rested by the time you are done that you won't want to move!!

By the way, I don't know if you mentioned this and I missed it, but what kind of camera are you using? I don't know if it is a point and shoot or something more advanced, but the pictures are exceptionally crisp and clear - whether it be a kind of overcast day at the beach, or a bright and sunny day at the Zoo.

Anyway, I can't wait to hear what the girls' reactions were when they finally figured out where you all were going next!!!

Wow! That zoo looks HUGE! My kids would LOVE it! Granita sounds like a fun Gma! The photo guy is funny.

I want one of those trees. I wonder if it'd grow in Myrtle Beach? :rotfl:

It has been quite awhile since we have been to the SD Zoo...It is huge! I seem to remember doing the bus tour first and then the pandas...If I remember correctly, it is quite a maze of escalators, hills, paths veering off in all directions...where's the gps when you need it? lol. (oh, and cute pics!)

That is too funny! I have that same panda your older daughter has and I got it a long time ago at either the San Diego Zoo or the Wild Animal Park!
I miss that zoo! It was always so awesome to go on the sky tram, I looked forward too it and usually went there instead of the Wild Animal Park because of it.

The zoo is a bit overwhelming, but I'm glad the two Zoo CMs helped out! Looks like you guys had fun:-)

Great pics of the Zoo...seems like an overwelming place though, that's how I feel at AK, it's always SO hot and I can never figure my way through there. It gets to the point, we just need to leave!:sad2:

The pics of the girls with Granita are adorable! She looks like so much fun!!
Love the tshirts the girls got...they are cute with your picture on them!!:cutie:

Can't wait to hear about your train adventure to an unknown place.....;)

Great updates!

I feel your pain on getting lost (again and again) in the zoo...not fun! Who knew the zoo would be so difficult to navigate. Thanks for the tips...if I ever go it will for sure be (1) bus tour (2) tram.

I've also heard wonderful things about the Wildlife Park, both from friends in southern CA and from the DisUnplugged. So many choices and options in southern CA, aren't there!

Can't wait to hear more about the trip and hear all about how you surprised the girls!:goodvibes

What a great update :goodvibes. Love the shirts. We would loe to go to the San Deigo zoo. They have live cams of the animals on the computer that we love to look at. Your girls would love that.
