The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Bethany -- Your comment made me laugh as well. I hope you don't have students trying to climb into the zoo animal homes again.

Aimee -- I'm sorry about your dad. I hope he finds another job quickly.

Ellen -- Welcome Joselyn! Good thoughts and prayers for her and Katie.

Lauren -- Good luck to Andrew tonight! If Andrew's league is like Liam's, one run in two innings is not bad at all! In fact, would he like to come pitch for Liam's team?? We had a game called after the fourth inning the other day due to a real pitcher's duel...14-10. Liam said it was more like a football score.

I think we might be having Indian food for dinner tonight. Greg wants to have it before he leaves, and it is easier to go get it tonight than tomorrow after skating.

Ellen~ Everyone is in my prayers. Welcome new baby Jocelyn:cloud9:

Lauren so glad no biopsy this year. The meet is June 14th. So far Marisa, Nan, Bethany & I. Place undetermined but there will be food involved.

We are buying 1/2 a bison......will go pick it up butchered & packaged after our cruise. I didn't think I would ever like it but always taste Greg's at AP & really enjoyed it.
The only thing I'm not sure of is telling them how much we want the steaks to weigh...any ideas?

Going to try and catch up using Word since Lauren mentioned it…..

Gretchen – Continued prayers and good wishes for Dad.

Maria – Great news on the adoption! I, too, would have to have been restrained with BIL, he’s a piece of work!:headache:

Vicki – I hope you’re feeling better.

Sheryl – Hope the EMG doesn’t hurt too badly.

Aimee – Prayers for Dad and Grandaddy.

Lauren – Great news on the biopsy, meds and bloodwork we can handle! Great job Andrew!!!:thumbsup2

Ellen – Prayers for Katie and the Joselyn.:grouphug:

Kingcrab – Your assistant is adorable, great pics!

Hope I didn’t miss anything important, still feeling yucky. I’ve got a Dr. appt for tomorrow morning. The DIS is painfully slow today....

Good afternoon everyone

Thanks so much for the prayers for Katie and baby Jocelyn. They aren't out of the woods yet but things are looking up. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

Becky - Happy Belated Anniversary. I love the Caribbean. Hopefully next year we will be going back.

Kathy - I hope you are feeling better today. Did you decide on a cake yet?

Charlene - I don't think I properly said Welcome yet!! Thais a great group of women.

Lauren - Yea for no biopsy. Prayers continue for your Mom

Lindsay - Love the pictures you posted. What a great looking family. And I loved your table setting. Made me hungry

Vickie - I hope each day finds you feeling better. I love the way you type. I can just hear the British accent. Love it!!!

Nancy & Narissa - A great big pat on the back. You have to show it for her to have it. What a great job you all have done. Kady is one lucky girl.

Laura - I am so happy knowing the Greg is home for a bit. Congratulations on Airborn school and then a whole month. Congrats also to Liam on his pitching. That is just wonderful.

Maria - I am sorry - but . . you BIL is a class A jerk. I have absoutly NO use for people who get their jollies by putting other people down. Shame on him. I am so excited for the babies arrival. You will make the bestest Mom. Hey, are you getting excited about your cruise. Just over 2 weeks now.

Sheryl - What a nice surprise. The CG is my favorite place to eat on Disney property. We have taken Ethan (4) a few times. She will be just fine. ENJOY!

Lori - You are too young to be a MIL (Ok who is messing with the smilies - I can't find my Youzza one). SIL's are great and I am sure yoou will be a great MIL. Good for you.

Bethany - I hope you have better luck this time with your papers getting to NOLA. Field trip HE** - you make me laugh. Only 19 more days sweetie. Hang in there.

Janice -Reception/Gratuation - whatever. I do agree it is to bad that this might be the only affair these kids do have. They are going to HS and that is a great thing. Congratulations to Alex

Ann - Are you just having a ball having Ron home at night? My prayers are with you that these last few weeks aren't just terriby miserable. I remember all too well. Baby Emma will be here before you know it.

Aimee - Oh how I can relate!! We need to get rid of one of our pastors. My days would be soooooo much better!! When I took this job I thought, how cool it would be to work for my church. Well after 10 years - I still love my job - I REALLY do, but . . . it is SO hard to have 679 bosses. I am the only secretary to 3 pastors. I love my job, I love my job. :lmao:

Gretchen - My prayers are with your Dad.

Whew, I hope I got everyone. Guess what I did last night? I cleaned Matthew's room. OMG :scared1::scared::eek: what an ordeal that was. I couldn't bring myself to go up to his room when he was gone. I missed him so much. So I just closed the door so I didn't have to see it. When he would come home on the weekends I didn't have the heart to ask him to clean, so it never got done. YIKES!! Last night was the night. It looks so pretty and smells good too. I went up this morning after he went to work just to look at it again and he had even made his bed this morning.

Ok I have rambled enough. With me its either feast or famine.:rotfl2:

WFDT ~ Lamb Chops, grilled aspergaus and sweet potatoes.

Have a great day my friends and thanks again for the prayers for my little family.

Just got word - It's a girl!! Joselyn Jolie - 4 lbs. 15 oz. Not bad for 6 weeks early. She is only about 10 minutes old. She is having a bit of trouble breathing and is on full oxygen. Katie is ok but struggling. So please keep them all in your prayers. I will up date as I know.

Thank you all so much - you are the best!!

Congrats to the family! Premature babies make remarkable progress thanks to modern medicine. I hope momma recovers okay

The field trip was to a children's art studio place. When we finally got there, we had a good time. The problem was with the bus. It came 2 hours late, then we spent 90 minutes getting there because the driver took local streets and was going back and forth east and west across Manhattan when the place is in soho! We are on our way back to school now. The good thing with being so late is that it will be dismissal (or close) when we get back!

I would have been  at that bus driver.

Oh yes, everyone who is a member considers you to be their employee - they pay your salary, remember ;) Gotta love it!

Thanks y'all! :goodvibes I'm happy to hear that CG is loud, for some reason I had an idea it was a high-falutin snooty kind of place. :confused3 Alexis seemed not so thrilled when I told her I had three fancy places booked. She was hoping for more character stuff, but I couldn't get anything else.

Lori, Congrats on joining the MOTHER-IN-LAW Ranks! Congratulations to the Newlyweds too! What do you mean, be careful? :confused3 The drive? I won't be heavily imbibing on this trip, I have the kiddo to take care of & you won't be there to lead me into bars!;)

I am not that bad of an influence!!!! :rotfl2: It was just a blanket "be careful out there"- drive safe, take it easy, remember the sunscreen, don't spend too much, take the pepto in case, come back in same shape you left....you know, that kind of "be careful"!!

Thanks for all of the well wishes for the kiddos. I'm going to "try" to hook the laptop up to the dsl modem and see if I can get it to work, since that's where I put the photos. We'll see how that goes.

Prayers for new Mom, and the little bundle of joy, and dad and his job, and A and his game.

I just joined Facebook and have realized that it is very very addicting.....

And tonight is either grilled salmon or fresh Iowa steaks with grilled asparagus, salad, and couscous.

Why is it when I try to go back on a eating plan all I want is vanilla wafers and chocolate?!?:headache:

Lori
Why is it when I try to go back on a eating plan all I want is vanilla wafers and chocolate?!?
It's a conspiracy ;)

Ellen Many prayers for the little Joselyn and Katie.

Kathy Take it easy and get some rest.

Vickie Glad you sound like your are starting to feel good. Take care

Maria I am soo sorry that you and your husband had to be witness to that horrible behavior. I am sure if I was there I would not be invited back for any family functions ;) I remember when my Aunt and Uncle adopted my cousin we all were thrilled. One of my Grandmother's friends said to her wouldn't she have wished for one of her own grandchildren. Her reply was that she didn't understand since he was one of her own grandchildren;).

I lost my train of thoughts. I got so mad I can't remember what I was going to say. I'll be back once my head clears.

Ok. As promised.......

Most importantly.....the cake!
015.jpg

Yes, the topper is young Homer and Marge Simpson....the boy has the same sense of humor as his Dad!:lmao:

And Kim (Nick's mom) and I both decided neither of us was old enough to be a Grandma yet, so when it happens (the "plan" is 2 years) one of us is a MiMi and one is a Mamere........bet the NOLA girls can pick whose who!:rotfl2:

One comment that I will share was at dinner after confirmation & my BIL had so much fun that the fact our baby will be Asian.
So Maria who do you think the baby will look like? haha
Bet ya they will have blue eyes just like you & Greg.....
What will the baby's name be "pick up 15 minutes" Toler? Of course with his attempt of an Asian accent.......they just go on & on.

What a moron!

Glad things are looking up with the adoption. It will be here before you know it!

Yummy and like others have said, cute assistant.

I am soooooo tired. Having one of my "can't fall asleep" cycles. Hopefully I can get some tonight. Last night I ended up eating a few chicken strips because I had so much to do and not enough time to really cook.

There is so much to do here at work as we wind down the school year and I am in the process of working on three quilts. I have one that needs to be finished by tomorrow night, one that needs to be finished before I head to WDW, it's my DN's birthday gift, and another that I need to have done not too long afterward. Tonight I have to iron the backing fabric for the first one. I ended up getting some really wrinkley fabric at the fabric store last night, the un-wrinkled one was 1/4 of a yard too small! :headache:

I may just throw some of the seafood mix into a pan with capers, lemon juice, wine, garlic and dill, cook till done and have over some pasta. :cloud9:

Ellen & Becky, you have me craving lamb today.

Laura, enjoy your Indian food. I am so happy you and the kids will have time with Greg again soon.

Bethany, your field trip comment cracked me up. You and your one liners.

Nancy & Sheryl and anyone else I forgot, just want to say . I was trying to do this by memory, but I lost it at the end please forgive me...DS keeps trying to play with me too.

(the chocolate cake was nasty- if you pressed a fork down on it water squeezed out onto the plate!):scared1:

Overall the food was pretty good on the cruise... I'd skip desserts though. Our favorite, other than Palo, was Triton's, which unfortunately I don't have photos of. It was our last night and we were packing right up to dinner and ran out of the cabin without the camera...

My granddad moved into his temporary assisted living home over the weekend. He's staying in a furnished unit the month of June while I'm traveling and my uncle is traveling and then will be moving into a unit of his own in July. I have not been by to see him yet but I hope he likes it okay

And......... my dad was fired yesterday. There is a long backstory with him but the short version is that he was making GOOD money when the economy crapped out in the summer before 9/11 and he was laid off. At his age, he struggled to find something else and after a few years, ran through savings, 401K, stocks, and eventually bankruptcy. Lost his house and car and moved in with my sister. He had gotten hired at a 4th of his previous salary doing something he enjoyed and was moving through the company and this seemingly came out of nowhere. I am worried; he has not had time to build his nest egg again and won't last long without a salary. Please pray for him; he needs it.

I hope that your GrandDad makes a good adjustment. Perhaps all of the company will do him good.

Prayers fro your Dad, I cannot imagine starting over again

My assistant Shaylen:

I loved that banana! Gotta tell you your assistant is a cutie!

thanks,

she is counting down the days until her first Disney World trip this month.

When are you going, I did not see a ticker?

Lauren- cheering Andrew on! I am so glad you don't need a biopsy!

Maria- Okay, I am embarrassed! It never occurred to me that anyone would ridicule a child or parents waiting for their adoption so I never saw the nasty intent. I am so sorry:sad2:
