The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Nancy Alex is very excited to be moving on to high school. I'm just confused why they are treating it like a graduation but making a big thing about not calling it a graduation. You should see the sheet they sent home :headache: I think it should be celebrated since a lot of these kids will only have this "graduation" to look back on. I think things got confused when it became "middle school and not jr high. I don't know if I'm making sense.

I agree. I remember Jr High and it was a stepping stone to high school. An important one. Then it became Middle School. Not so special :sad2: I think a celebration should be a celebration. Not some kind of "embarrassed" look back. These kids should be proud and looking towards that new step and a graduation is a great way to promote completing that level!

Oh well..as my na -na used to say " nae loss whit a freend gits "

How are you feeling today? And what did you just say?:)

Thank you all for the kind words about Kady. I see such growth this year but as always, we get to see the not so flattering aspects of her personality. It is wonderful to know that she restrains herself at school.

Kathy, hope you are feeling better my friend and got a good night sleep!

Marissa / Nancy, you should be proud of your girl. She has been taught very well, which we all know here. It is so nice to hear her receive recognition for it.

:cheer2::cheer2: Congratulations Kady!!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Taking my DM to a small local grocery store today. The had some good sales and she & I need to get out. My parents are going through DS withdrawals, they did a drop in on Sunday to see him and check on me, but they brought DH a piece of chocolate cake (where the heck was mine, I am the prego one!). We were still there twice last week but they miss having dinner three nights a week. My mother said she isn't cooking like she did when I was there. :lmao:

WFD- pork cutlets with brown gravy, mashed, beets and peas.

Have a good day all!

Becky - Sorry I missed your anniversary yesterday. Hope it was wonderful. Congrats on 12 years.

Kathy - I hope you are feeling better today.

Charlene - Good idea about the notes. And great job keeping up.

Lauren - Good luck at the doctor today. Hope you get good news.

Vickie - It sounds like you are doing better and better. Don't overdo.

Nancy - Wow. :cool1: You all have every reason to be proud of Kady. Heck, I'm proud too.

Laura - I think you all deserve a month together after Airborne school. And it is great timing that it falls during the children's summer break. BTW - Congrats to Liam those awards are quite an accomplishment.

Maria - I didn't see you post yesterday. I hope you are doing ok.

Sheryl - WOOO HOOOO!!! A trip to BCV!!!!! I hope the three of you have an absolute blast.

Lori - We won't be getting in until that Saturday too, but I'd hate to think we got that close and didn't meet. We're staying for a week. If nothing else, maybe we can meet up after your cruise.

Lindsay - I'm not on Facebook. Who are the other people in the pics?

Bethany - FedEx has always worked well for me. I hope everything gets worked out with your appt.

Janice - I agree with everyone else, I also think an un-graduation is very strange. For heavens sake, why can't they just call it what it is a recognize those children for making it to high school. Heck, if 1/4 of them drive their parents as crazy as P does Kenny and I, it is a miracle they lived that long.

Ann - I hope you are doing ok. I know you are getting really close now and are probably in or getting close to the miserable stage.

Aimee - Glad the vote at church went well. I hope that resolves some of the drama there and your job can settle into normal. Not that your normal doesn't tire me out just reading it.

I may have missed someone. If so, please forgive me.

Thanks for all the well wishes for Dad. He is doing better today. I think it was a combination of the chemo yuckiness, along with another health issue, topped off by the Zometa treatment which makes you feel like you have the flu - body aches, etc.

I got up at dark thirty this morning so I could make it to Lowe's before work. The countertops are done and now I absolutely MUST select my floor. If I had more energy I'd probably be more excited about it. Honestly, I just told Kenny to pick something out and I'd be happy with whatever he chose. Because he is smarter than that, he said "not a chance". So, I made the first of many trips to Lowes this morning. He's just lucky I didn't buy any plants for him to plant.

Dinner is Chicken Boudine with broccoli and carrots.

Good Morning Gals,

What a weekend.....something good happened I met one of Greg's Aunts & I loved her!!! Thank goodness she was there!!! But not invited to the Confirmation and or Confirmation dinner??!! Greg's siblings just don't get it.
One comment that I will share was at dinner after confirmation & my BIL had so much fun that the fact our baby will be Asian.
So Maria who do you think the baby will look like? haha
Bet ya they will have blue eyes just like you & Greg.....
What will the baby's name be "pick up 15 minutes" Toler? Of course with his attempt of an Asian accent.......they just go on & on.

We did have our call with the agency yesterday afternoon as planned & it went really well. They finally gave us a strong idea of the baby arrival.
HE will be here the first of 2010 & will be between 5-9 months old!!!!
Korea no longer is allowing siblings BUT we are so pleased with some semi solid information we are thrilled. We do have a slight chance of twins.
Being siblings are no longer an option we will immediately put our paperwork in for a baby from China when Jack arrives. I will be to old to go through Korea again. China will most likely match us with a little girl.

Leona goes for her follow-up scan today & my Mom is still having a tough time so please keep them in your prayers.

I scanned back & will do the best I can.

Kat~ hope your feeling better:hug:

Sheryl~ YES to CG! Make sure you tell them at the podium that you are willing to wait for a window, they will tell you there is no guarantee for how long but with kids they are really quick so I will give it a shot. Nothing like a little princess having a Shirley Temple in the lounge:cutie:

Vickie~ so happy to see you posting:hug:take it easy please.

Laura, I'm so glad Greg is still home!

Charlene~please come along to our mini-meet with Lauren. I would love to meet you before October.

Ann & Gretchen, thanks for looking out for me:hug:

Gretchen & Sheryl~ I sent your books from Maryland Saturday. I sent them media mail so they may be slow bit I already have 2 more to send down.

Lauren~ please let us know what the doctor says.

Becky~ being away this weekend I didn't know it was your anniversary so please accept
HAPPY_ANNIVERSARY_DOVES.jpg

Aimee~ Glad the vote is over & hopefully you will have a moment to breathe now:hug:

Janice~ I think every step in education is an important one & Alex should be celebrated with a Graduation, I don't understand this "middle school" issues.

Ann~ I sent you a PM....& will give you a ring, I know your in some pain:hug:

Bethany~ AT least with Fed Ex you will have a tracking number:confused3

If I missed anyone I'm sorry & if I missed anything important someone please fill me in~

Sheryl, Alexis will be fine at CG. Liam and Caili went there at that age, and it is their favorite restaurant in the entire park! They have some good food options for the kids. We brought paper and crayons for them to use once they were finished eating, while the adults finished their meals. They would use the paper to come up with their own Disney rides. Some of their ideas were pretty hysterical. I still have some of those drawings.

Lori, congratulations to the newlyweds!

Kathy, I hope you feel better today.

Nancy, congratulations to Kady!

I know I am forgetting some stuff, I am sorry!

Here is a photo from last night. Grilled lamb chops and tagliatelle with mushrooms and arugula:

Tonight I think I am making curried chicken salad with the rest of the leftover durban chicken. I am going to get home late because my boss is hosting a reception in his office at the end of the day and I will have to clean up after.

Well I am a little behind and it is only 11AM! :woohoo:

Maria- I hope that the trip was okay, it sounds like it was not too bad.
:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay: About the adoption news! I have to admit I would not care if I had a boy or a girl but if you are blessed with a little girl too you will be thrilled! Prayers daily for your dreams to come true!
Your Mom is always in my prayers as well

Gretchen- I am so glad that your Dad is having a better day. That chemo is the pits!

Becky- I think new attractions from the viewpoint of kids is a good thing! Pay attention Disney!

Ann- I understand your Mom and Dad, I miss Kady a lot. It is different when you are missing that big smile!

I am going to check if there is enough left from last night to have that for dinner. Buddy was not crazy about it but I am trying to get my plants done. It is muggy and buggy out so I don;t want Nola out there, so it is hit and miss all day!

Lori -- Congratulations to the newlyweds! It is so nice to see you posting here again.

Janice -- I am very confused about the whole recognition thing. Why can't they just call it a graduation? Congratulations to Alex.

Sheryl -- Great ADRs! As Becky said, Liam and Caili love CG. Alexis will be fine.

Ann -- I am glad Ron is happy with the new job.

Kathy -- I hope you are feeling better.

Nancy and Marisa -- Congratulations to Kady! That is wonderful, and it is direct reflection of how you are raising her.

Honestly, I just told Kenny to pick something out and I'd be happy with whatever he chose. Because he is smarter than that, he said "not a chance".
 I hope you find what you want soon. I don't think a trip to Lowes would be much motivation for me to get out of bed early. I am glad your dad is doing better.

Maria -- Great news on the adoption!

Thanks everyone for the congratulations for Liam. I am very proud of him. Of course, I only found the invitation to the awards ceremony in his backpack yesterday, and the ceremony was last week. I think his back pack is going to be condemned once school ends.

Greg survived the vegetarian sandwich last night without complaint (although he did raid the fridge for more food after he ate it). I'm not sure what we're having tonight. I was thinking about grilling, but it sounds like we are going to have weather come through, so I have to rethink that.

Have a great day!

How are you feeling today? And what did you just say?:)

.

I was quite sore and tired today so I had a wee hour back in bed and feel better now.:)

" nae loss wit a freend gits " translated is...no lose what a friend gets.

Its an old saying,My Nana would say it ,it means our loss is sometimes someone else's gain and not to get too upset if you dont get what you want.

Thanks for all the well wishes for Dad. He is doing better today. I think it was a combination of the chemo yuckiness, along with another health issue, topped off by the Zometa treatment which makes you feel like you have the flu - body aches, etc.

Sendin love ower the water.....

Hey y'all,

Quick checkin, I have sooo much to get done. I'm officially freaked out about how I'm going to get it all done, Plus I have to go to the dr for an EMG today. That's going to hurt plus it's eating up too much of my day!

Thanks for all the CG info! All three of us are excited about trying it! Kat thanks for the link with pics!

Maria, :cool1::worship::yay: That is very encouraging news!!! I'm so happy for you! More prayers on the adoption & for good news for Leona and better days for your Mom.

Laura, I forgot to say yesterday that I'm happy to hear that Greg will be coming back home for another month!

Lindsay, That looks nice!:thumbsup2

Becky, Yumm! :thumbsup2

Gretchen, I'm glad your Dad is doing better today. More prayers for y'all.

I've got to run, sorry if I've missed something big.

Have a good one friends!:grouphug:

BBL.

I have a travel question for you. My DH has dreamed of visiting Ireland - I think he considers it to be his motherland  Our 10 year is in 3 years and I thought I'd sock away money, without him knowing, into an account now, in 3 years I can surprise him with a trip there. But, since it's seemingly so close to Scotland and England, I'd like to do a combo trip to hit highlights. I found a tour online that hit Edinburgh, London, and Dublin.

My question: how many days would you devote to seeing these spots? If I did 4 days in each, and planned to rent a car at least in Dublin and Edinburgh to drive around, is that enough time to get a feel for it? Also, what time of year is prime to visit?

I am obviously not booking anything anytime soon but I'm trying to figure out how much I need to sock away.

Thanks :goodvibes

Hey you all. I've been reading, but have been on the laptop the past few days and for some reason it will not let my posts go through.

Great pics!

:yay: on the adoption news! Going through that process must be an absolute emotional rollercoaster.

I'm trapped in field trip hell...pray for me! Ahhhhh!

Where to today?

My granddad moved into his temporary assisted living home over the weekend. He's staying in a furnished unit the month of June while I'm traveling and my uncle is traveling and then will be moving into a unit of his own in July. I have not been by to see him yet but I hope he likes it okay

And......... my dad was fired yesterday. There is a long backstory with him but the short version is that he was making GOOD money when the economy crapped out in the summer before 9/11 and he was laid off. At his age, he struggled to find something else and after a few years, ran through savings, 401K, stocks, and eventually bankruptcy. Lost his house and car and moved in with my sister. He had gotten hired at a 4th of his previous salary doing something he enjoyed and was moving through the company and this seemingly came out of nowhere. I am worried; he has not had time to build his nest egg again and won't last long without a salary. Please pray for him; he needs it.

Tonight we're having seared scallops, er, or something like that. I honestly can't remember what the recipe is called - new Cooking Light, I believe. :confused3

Hey All, Back from the dr and I do not have to go for a biopsy this year!!! I do have to go back on meds and for more bloodwork (to a hematologist)…I have an elevated number for something they tested for (Porphyria) by mistake in the hospital. Go figure, my luck! My doc says it does not seem to be anything major.

Thank you for the Congrats to Andrew. We play again tonight. I think he is pitching his full count. He pitched 2 innings on Sunday and only 1 run was scored. I don’t think that is too bad.

Becky, Happy Belated Anniversary!!!

Laura, Congrats to Liam!!! Awesome job! You’re doing good too Mom!

Nancy/Marisa, Congrats to Kady! What a nice award!

Sheryl, Yay for your trip! Have a blast and like the others, I think CG is fine for Alexis! I never commented on your wedding trip with Angelina, but I hope you can go. I hope all goes well with your EMG.

Kathy, Hope you’re feeling better today. Did you decide on a cake for Kyle?

Janice, Congrats to Alex! It is kinda strange that they don’t call it graduation!

Bethany…18 days!!! Where is the field trip!

Lori, Congrats to the Newlyweds! Can’t wait to meet you in Oct!

Vickie, so nice to see you feeling up to posting. I hope each day finds you feeling better!

Ann, Hope Ron’s first day was great!

Gretchen, Glad to see Dad doing better today. I am sorry he had a rough weekend. I continue to pray for him. I didn’t know you were doing renovations…isn’t it fun! Not…we are still not done with downstairs…its only been a year and a half!

Maria, What wonderful news on the babies. What a jerk your BIL is. I hate people that are like that. If I was there, I don’t think it would be too pretty. I am glad you met the Aunt though. Continued prayers for you and Greg, Mom and Leona. When and where is the meet? I didn’t even mention it to Tom yet…not sure what he wants to do for his bday.

Charlene, You are doing great at keeping up…I use Word to respond to everyone…is that what you do?

Aimee, I missed something that happened at work. I think you got a new Pastor and some help. I hope you can slow down a bit now. I hope you can come in Oct too!
I am sorry if I missed something…I am needing to hop on the treadmill, straighten up and get some dinner ready. Gotta leave for the field at 4:15. I hate these times!

UGRENT PRAYERS PLEASE!!!

I just got a phone call from Elizabeth that her Sister-in-law (Jay's Brother's wife) is in the hospital. She is pregnant and due on July 14th. Katie as a child had a kidney transplant - donated from her Dad. Was told she would never be able to have children because of all of the steroids that she has to take.

Well fast forward - she got pregnant and all was going VERY good, until yesterday. She was complaining of a back ache. They put her in the hospital right away. And will take the baby today - 6 weeks early.

I thought of you all right away. Your prayers always work. I have seen it first hand. Please pray for Katie Mins and her baby. This family has been through enough we need a good outcome.

Thanks so VERY much, I'll keep you posted and I'll BBL

I'm trapped in field trip hell...pray for me! Ahhhhh!

I am sorry, but this made me laugh! :rotfl:

Ellen, I hope that all goes well for Katie and her baby.

I just remembered that someone wanted the pasta salad recipe from the other day. Here it is:

Pasta with Arugula, Feta, and Sun Dried Tomatoes

6 ounces arugula
6 ounces feta cheese
1/2 cup pitted kalamata olives
1/4 cup thinly sliced sun dried tomatoes
12 ounces pasta
1 tbsp. red wine vinegar
3 tbsp. olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
handful of fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced

Cook pasta in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain.

Combine the olive oil and vinegar with salt and pepper to taste. Toss with the pasta and set aside to cool slightly.

Toss pasta with remaining ingredients, and serve warm or at room temperature.

Thank you all so much - you are the best!!

Ellen, Everyone is in my prayers! Welcome Joselyn Jolie!

Ellen, I was 2 months premature and was 4 lbs when born. Aside from being in the hospital for about a month after birth, I have had no problems. I will wish the same for Joselyn.

Please keep us posted!

Prayers going out for the baby and the new mother. *hugs*

The field trip was to a children's art studio place. When we finally got there, we had a good time. The problem was with the bus. It came 2 hours late, then we spent 90 minutes getting there because the driver took local streets and was going back and forth east and west across Manhattan when the place is in soho! We are on our way back to school now. The good thing with being so late is that it will be dismissal (or close) when we get back!
