Moms to Be Part 3

I understand. We didn't tell anyone, including the kids, for the 1st couple of months. I'm 36 (was 35 when I got pregnant) and had made a big deal about being through. Dh on the other hand begged for another baby for 9 yrs! I finally gave in last summer. So while the baby wasn't a surprise for us, it was for everyone else!

My sisters are 46, 44, and 31. So we are spread out too. The oldest, youngest and I are really close now. Unfortunately, the 2nd isn't close to anyone, but that has nothing to do with the age difference.

I'm actually starting to get a bit worried as to how my oldest is going to take it. At first I though she would be excited... but after saying a few nonchalant things here and there I'm thinking otherwise. She loves that I'm the mom that takes all the teens to the drive-in, that lets her have her friends over all the time, etc. With a baby some of that will have to be put on the back burner for a while.

My 2nd dd adores little kids though and has been begging me for years to have another. Even going as far to say she would love to share her room with a baby. ;)

And my youngest... well he's pretty darn spoiled and this is definitely going to rock his world. He sleeps with us most nights... yea really bad habit we got into. And I have got to get him to stop soon!!

... The good news ( if you really want to call it good :lmao:) is that she'll be able to drive within a year of the baby being born. We've already purchased a car for her... Pontiac is giving away their cars right now so we got an '09 G6 fully loaded for dirt cheap. ...
Wow. I bet your daughter's friends wish you would adopt them. I remember my first car. It was twenty years old and showed it's age, but it was reasonably safe and somewhat reliable. I bought it for $500 that I earned working after school and during the summer.

Anyway, Cathy is right around 16 weeks and we had another OB appointment this morning. Cathy was, of course, very stressed prior to the appointment; afraid that some thing, anything was wrong.
Of course, all was fine.

They happily did another ultrasound (our third!) and ensured us that everything appeared to be just great. The baby was too cute for words and was very wiggly. They said that she probably had the hiccups. I say 'she' because they are 90% sure that we are having a little girl. They told us not to paint the nursery until after our next visit, but that they were pretty sure.

Patsy - I had contractions for two nights leading up to active labor. Just at night though ...

Well, I'm guessing what I thought were contractions last night WERE contractions.
I'm dialated to 3 now, so I don't have to go in the night before!!:banana:

I go into L&D 5am Wednesday to start my Pitocin drip. No food after midnight but she promised me as many popsicles as I want while I'm in labor.

Sarah! Those are some awesome deals. Thanks for posting. I already have the Rainforest swing but that didn't stop me from taking a peek at everything you had listed...

Piecey, get that bag packed now!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao:

I'll pop back in when I cool off (geesh, it was 50 something when I woke up and now I'm sweating?!) with what I've got so far... thanks for your list, that'll help me double check for whatever I've missed.

It is 93 here today:scared:. It is going to be a hot summer.

Jenny, I hope your kids are ok with everything. Mine were brainwashed by dh over the years-he would have them beg for a baby all the time, too. So they were very excited. Dd9 has had a hard time adjusting though-she goes from super happy about the baby to whining and worrying that she isn't the baby anymore (or the only girl). And ds11 just came in and begged me to go to his baseball game tonight. I talked to dh about it, but he doesn't want her out until she's had a round of shots, so no go. I hate disappointing my 1st baby though!

Cool!:thumbsup2 I'll wait until its official to change it on the list, okay?

Glad someone could use it! I contimplated getting the swing and returning the one we already have (unopened just in case), but the one we got plugs in and that one doesn't, so I think I'll skip it...but its hard. The one we have cost $159 and this one is only $69.99! A big difference...maybe I should call DH...

So what would you do??

Return the $159.99 swing we have that plugs in and get the $69.99 that is exactly the sme except a couple little features and does not plug in? We don't have the receipt and I'm worried about mechanical problems down the line.
OR Just keep the one we have and see if I can get the receipt...

DH really wants the plug and I agree, but it's a $90 difference that we could use on other stuff...

ETA: I got the receipt...

Kohl's has some decent baby items on big sale.

Fisher-Price® Nature's Touch™ Papasan Cradle Swing Reg Price: $139.99 Sale Price: $69.99

We got a Rainforest swing already too, but that is a great deal for the FP one you mentioned. My BFF has this one and her daughter and son both loved it.

A few more contractions this afternoon. Nothing that stopped me in my tracks like last time, yet! DH has an extended drill at the FD tonight so I'm going to my dad's for dinner. He would rather have me there than at home alone. ;) I'm all for being fed and cared for! :thumbsup2 Woo hoo for BBQ.

Hmmm... I guess I would rather have the plug in and not worry about batteries running out or not having the right kind on hand.

lol Really? I feel like $90 is a big difference just for the plug...but DH agrees with you. The regular price in a no brainer--the $20 difference is much easier to swallow...why can't they all just be plug ins?! :thumbsup2

Im with you! $90 is a lot of money!! you could buy a few packs of batt. just to have on hand.

Okay, we're 2 vs 2 now...anyone else?

Also, between the 10% off code, I'm paying nothing for tax or shipping...and the tax on the $159.99 swing is another $10.40, so it's really a $100 difference. :teeth:

If I just knew my Kohl's charge number (I can't find the stupid card) I'd get another 5% off and free shipping...I guess I need to find that...

Hey Sarah! We have the one that plugs in, but it was the first one that came out and the price was a lot closer to your 2nd purchase. I do love the fact that I never have to worry about batteries, but people have been using the battery-operated time for awhile (since they got rid of the hand-crank ones). Not all babies like swings, so you may be better off going with the cheaper model.

The only time I ever heard someone desparately NEED the plug-in one, was my friend whose daughter was extremely fussy and would only sleep in the swing. I think at that point, you would pay $1000 to get the plug-in one.:rotfl:

We have a battery operated swing and we have not changed the batteries once since DS was born 5 1/2 months ago.

Thanks! As a baby I would only sleep in my swing, so I want to make sure we have a good one!

DH has decreed that we're sticking with the one we have. lol He likes the extra features, and I think he's really set on the plug (which i totally agree with). So I can kiss goodbye the extra $100. :sad2: At least I got the receipt in case I need it in the future!

That would be nice, wouldn't it? We got the Boppy travel swing, put it together, and took it apart later that night. :rotfl: Yet another trip back to BBRU. I just didn't like it even after registering for it. So we did without a swing entirely for DS1. We just did bouncy chairs.

I didn't want a huge swing taking up the livingroom but now with 100 firetrucks laying around I of course have less room than before. Go figure. I'm sure that either swing will make the baby happy. :)

Ack! Do you use it a lot? I sort of figured that you can't go through batteries too fast or no one would buy the battery operated ones...maybe I can find some reviews that discuss battery life to convince him...

I'm going to leave it to fate...I had to request a new Kohl's card, so I either have to wait for it to arrive in the mail, do the order over the phone, or go up to Kohl's to get the number.

I can't do the other options until tomorrow night, so if it's still available then, I just might do it...lol Too much stress over a swing!

I'm definitely concerned about the space issue...the swings are about the same size--HUGE--if we put it in her room, it would take up all of the remaining floor space...in the living room, we'd have to put it in front of the front door...or we could put it in the basement that right now we don't use all that much...but when she's here, it'll be a few degrees cooler down there even with the AC, so that might be where it goes...along with the giant hand-me-down bassinet! lol :thumbsup2

I have that swing... and mine is battery operated. I've only had to change the batteries a handful of times... and my ds LIVED in that swing for the first 6 months! :thumbsup2

Mine has taken a beating after being loaned out to many friends. For that kind of deal... I may just get a new one. Thanks to who posted! :goodvibes

No problem! BTW the free shipping code w/o a kohl's card expired, so that doesn't work anymore...
