South Beach Diet and WDW

Anybody out there with South Beach Diet experience?

So...the dr. told me Friday I need to get on the South Beach Diet. This is rather scary, as I LOVE carbs!

So...I started today, but I will be at the end of Phase I on the day I arrive at WDW. How reasonable is it to expect to transition from PI to P2 while in WDW?

How easy is it to go through 11 days at WDW while on SB Diet? I assume I can do fine at the sit down meals, but the counter service is what may be a little difficult.

We also had planned on eating breakfasts in the room, and that may now be much more difficult as well.

Should I still go through with it, or am I better off to wait till I get back and start then?

Any and all info/help is definitely appreciated!

My doctor told me if every american ate like they were on the south beach diet (phase two)...there wouldn't be all these over weight americans.

Basically...it is very similar to a low glycemic diet. I have no trouble eating that way, lol, when I want to. Now, granted, at disney I sometimes go off that eating plan, but you can do it.

In the morning, Eggs and breakfast meat ( I used to ask for scrambled eggs with spinach or broccoli mixed in, just a touch of cheese), never a problem. Mid morning snack...grab an apple or some berries, lunch, salad is never a problem, or chicken, another serving of fresh fruit. You can grab your once carb...mine is usually a slice of rye bread or whole grain bread..at whatever meal you choose. Dinner, again..no problem. Honestly, when I saw the kids meal they served my daughter at Wave restaurant...I could eat that, it was so much food, totally delicious and very healthy.

You may have to find alternates, but it shouldn't be too hard.

I have to have all my fruit before noon because I am diabetic. If you have to alter from the plan...pick and choose your spots to do it. Oh, and the nutrition doc told me...have vodka, lol, if I wanted a cocktail. Hubby's heart doc it totally on board with a glass of wine a night. Even my nutrition guy said you aren't going to go without everything forever, so pick and choose your spots.

Definately do your phase one before you go, because eating right after that will be easy...and you can eat a whole lot more than you think you can!

I was following South Beach during our last trip 18 months ago. Turkey legs are a GREAT lunch, enough for 2 to share! There is fresh fruit everywhere - stick to apples, avoid bananas. All sit downs and some CS have salads with chicken or another protein, just ask for no croutons, dressing on the side, etc. Remember the sauces on cooked foods are LOADED with sugars, so be careful, and good luck!

I haven't done the South Beach, but I have done the Adkins. When we went last November, I just brought along a box of Adkins breakfast bars. I believe they have South Beach breakfast bars as well.

My family ate breakfast in the room while I made sure we were all set for the day. I ended up eating one while walking to the bus stop which actually worked out very well. I sure felt better starting the day eating something healthy.

Can you do the turkey legs? They are dark meat right?
