Can Disney Fix DTD?

Well fellow SSR owners, what happened to DTD since we all bought. We lost Adventurers club, Comedy Club, Virgin Records and a host of other clubs.

We gained Irish Pub, Dinosor Restaurant and a ballon ride.

I sadly miss Adventures and comedy club. Can Disney fix DTD? Is it borken?

I too am disappointed with all the closings. However, I have decided to give them a couple years and see what they actually put in those locations before passing judgment. We ate at Raglan Road last week and really enjoyed it. I believe the new South American eatery is due to open any day now.

This is not just an issue for SSR owners - we are DVC owners, i.e. repeat visitors, who look for something to do at night.
Downtown Disney was something to do in the evenings that didn't involve eating. The Adventurer's Club, The Comedy Warehouse, etc. was entertainment. We don't go to WDW to shop. Shopping at WDW is something we do at the parks for the air-conditioning. We will NOT be going to DTD in the evening anymore.
Apparently, Disney wants its repeat visitors to look off property for evening entertainment....

We miss the Adventurer's Club and the Comedy Club, too!! Raglan Road is very nice . . . guess we'll see what the new places are like, but I will miss AC and CC very much.

We never really cared for the old DTD. With the nightclubs gone, there will be less drunks skipping through SSR - and that we're happy about.

The balloon ride sounds like a great addition to DTD and we're excited to ride it this fall.

I miss the AC and CW too. Only went to DTD this past trip to take my DGS and DGD to T-Rex. Won't be going back to DTD anytime soon.

We have been to DTD twice during late evening once I was 27 and the last time 37 truthfully, freaked me out! I love to have a good time but once it went free to just hang out it got pretty weird in there after dark and I am a sheriffs deputy. Trying to not knock locals too much but dang who raised them ppl? DW and I DONOT allow any of our kids to go there (the older ones) still after 10:00pm.
That being said we do love DTD just not after dark. Shawn

They really do need to come up with something at DTD for us adults that we can have fun with after the parks close.Alot more restaurants,well,not sure if thats the answer.The AC and CC were a blast and something we looked forward to on our yearly visits.We enjoy shopping so we still go over a couple of nights but theres only so much you can do.With Virgin gone,well,that takes about 3 hrs of browsing away for me so not a whole lot to do on the west side now except for an occasional show at HOB. I guess now we will mostly enjoy our strolls and watching everyone leave the parks when they close and kill an hour or so that way.We can also go to the boardwalk area which seems to have more for us to do anywhere now. They are missing a big part of our dollars by not having something strictly for the adults.Then on the other hand, Disney has been known to surprise us so maybe something is in the works. We can only hope!!

No loss to me at all. After a day at the parks, I have little interest in walking around DTD at night. It's always too crowded and hot anyway. I'd just as soon go back and relax in my home away from home. Also, DTD is the only area of Disney where I've actually been concerned security wise - I've seen some pretty drunk people there. I do like T-Rex though.

I am a fan of DTD, or at least the "idea" of DTD. When we go to Disney, we always break up our day into three sessions - morning, afternoon and night, so there is always time for a visit or two to DTD. We find it to be a nice diversion after days at the parks. I think there is a way to address security concerns without tearing out the clubs and such. You'd think that tons of businesses would be dying to get a piece of the Disney property, so I have no idea why they are having a hard time filling the place up with exciting options for guests.

I think a theater district would go over well. I know that they already have the Cirque, but perhaps a couple of Broadway or off Broadway type theaters, or how about a dinner theater? If they don't want nutty people from town visiting, they could work hard to make sure that it appeals to everyone but that "bad" demographic. In other words, have stores and attractions (Dinosaur Cafe) for the kids, as well as stores and attractions for people over 30 (upscale restaurants, dinner theater, etc.).

I refuse to believe that Disney would let this area die.

A year ago, I took my then 9yo to Epcot in the evening, and it was the first time I was ever concerned about safety in a Disney park. There was a drunk guy acting, well, like an obnoxious drunk guy in the line and then on the ride at Test Track. I don't think I'll go late to Epcot or any of the other parks or areas where they serve alcohol anymore. I was not at all comfortable with the situation. Frankly, I wish they'd do away with serving alcohol in all of these areas. It just aids people in acting stupid. It's Disney, and I just never saw what 'Pleasure Island' and late night partying had to do with the 'vision' in the first place. I get that it's a money maker, but I just don't think it's what Disney is/should be all about.

AGREED! Disney WILL BE sooo much better without it.

I like it better without the clubs. It was starting to get scary at night. I do miss the Virgin store, though. Hopefully something similar will replace it.

People acting out of control because they've had too much to drink is not only limited to theme parks. Now that the summer weather is upon us, DH and I frequently see people who get sloppy because they've had too much to drink at many of our favorite "patio" restaurants. And, while we're certainly not concerned about our safety, it is unfortunate that our DD has to be subjected to their behavior. Still, I also know that I can't control others so I take the opportunity to explain to her that some behavior isn't acceptable in public, and leave it at that. That said, I think that Disney could have done a better job policing DTD and not let people get out of control instead of simply doing away with Pleasure Island all together. Further, we typically go, as a family, to DTD several times during a week's trip to walk around and shop and I've never (either before or after Pleasure Island's closure) experienced anyone who was out of control or even obnoxious. It will be interesting to see how the new "nightlife" shapes up at DTD...

I would love to see a broadway type show at DTD. I think Disney needs better dinner shows. Hoop Dee Doo and the Luoa is great the first time. I would love to see a magic dinner show with a great magician. Disney should be able to pull of a dinner show maybe rotate Comedy, Magic, Broadway, Rock....).

Rumor Alert!

Back in March, while standing in front of the Adventurer's Club pining away, we talked to a CM who said that the AC 'MIGHT' be turned into a dinner theatre, with the same themeing as the AC, but, with food. If they did something similar to that with the Comedy Club, that would be too cool.

Lots of good suggestions...I do miss the CW, and based on comments over and over again..I must have missed some fun times at AC. There is a ton of stuff that could work, with OKW, POR, SSR, THV, and the other area non-Disney Hotels, there is definietly enough folks to support more action. I cannot take more than an hour of shopping.

We have a large a diverse age extended family...would love..

- Dinner show or comedy club part II..would be fine.
- Would love some character meals in the area...SSR, or DTD somewhere...on a boat at Fultons would be cool.
- live bands or music..piano bar...not jelly rolls, but just some live music that is not Heavy Metal loud.

***I hear you on the "over served", but I personally love walking around Epcot at night with a cold one, or ending the night at DHS at Fantasmic with a beverage of choice. We tend to leave relatively early and must miss when it gets a little crazy.

I don't like Downtown Disney at all, but if they were to have a Broadway type show, I would beat a path, provided I wanted to see the show.

I don't understand needing to go to DTD for entertainment. The Boardwalk has great nighttime entertainment. There's plenty to do at the monorail resorts. Why in the world would anyone want to go to DTD? I've never really understood.

I had heard Disney was having problems with security at DTD. Locals I think. I think they had to make a change. I'm sure they will come up with something good. I do enjoy a adult beverage in the evenings but I hate Drunks. I just don't get it. Spend a bunch of money buying drinks to act stupid. I can do stupid without the drinks I've seen me do it.
