TR - A Gregarious Ghostly Gallivant - Final Thoughts Finally Posted!

Okay, I did an aside about this, but I'm going to make a little graphics chapter here. As I may have said, we do up custom T-shirts for out trips. Last year we did a plain white T and a tie-dye'd version using this logo:

MnMrMustardT.jpg

we got lots of compliments on the tie-dyed shirts - we were quite the site walking around

Dis08_111.jpg

So I decided to put together some designs with a Halloween theme to them.

MnMrMustardSmall.jpg

I'll probably turn the black to transparent if we do them on black Ts.

DIS_Pumpkin2.jpg

This one seems a bit on the plain side, but I'm not sure what else to do with it - suggestions?

skellington-shirt.jpg

I like the way this one turned out - just finished it this evening :D

And as always, if anyone wants a design done up with their DISnames I'm happy to do so!

Hey Mustard, had to come over and check our designs

The jack Skellington is awesome :woohoo:

I like the other two, too :thumbsup2

One suggestion for Pumpkin one, maybe you could outline the lettering in black.:confused3

Just throwing that out there since you thought it looked plain.

I like the skull and the Skellington, too.

I think Sharky's suggestion is good. Or what about making the whole thing 3-D?

You're welcome on the info, glad to be able to break it down for ya :thumbsup2 It is easy to equate the Nikon/Canon battle to the Mac/PC battle. Nikon users pay a premium for what they feel is something of a higher quality, but the Canon is the workhorse that most people use in their daily life ;)

Yup, ISO is just the digital eqivalent of what speed of film you had in a 35mm camera - you know, 200, 400, 800 etc. On digital cameras is is just how fast it can capture the image. And I do want to clarify that the Nikon has ISOs in the same range and therefore the same quality as the Canon, it just also takes that extra step to 3200 ISO, which in my opinion is unnecessarily fast in relation to picture quality.

The other speed factor is on the lens side with "f-stop" (another term you may have heard thrown around). It has to do with how fast the shutter on the lens itself can open and close (also called aperture) to capture images. The tricky bit is that the LOWER the number in f-stop, the FASTER the lens is. A 4 to 5 f-stop is a standard starting point, with a 2.8 or less being fast.

Okay, I'm done geeking out on camera specs now - lol. Good call about keeping the point-n-shoot handy, it is a lot to tote a camera bag w/lenses around a park and sometimes it isn't worth it. I carried a full camera backpack the whole WDW trip, but I am a bit of a nut job.

Okay, I'm a bit confused about the lenses still but I figure I'll get used to the camera with the lens it comes with first and then get more information on other lenses from you later (oh mighty camera guru :worship:).

You are right about the Nikon/Canon war being similar to the Mac/PC war. It really does seem very much like that the more I read. Nikon users are snobby about their Nikon's and Canon users are snobby about their Canon's. I'm sure I'll be snobby too.

And the comment about you saying you're a nut job for carrying around a whole camera back pack at WDW....well, it paid off when you got all of those amazing shots that you got! :thumbsup2 So I don't think you are a nut job at all. I'll probably still only have the one lens by December for my trip so hopefully I'll still be able to get some good pictures. I'd like to start learning to use Photo Shop but I know there is a LOT to that program and should probably take a class for that.

They look FANTASTIC!! I still would like some for our December trip if you're still willing. I just need to find a picture for you to start off with. I've really gotta remember to do that:rolleyes:

Thankyee! And that is a good suggestion with the Pumpkin one, I'll do some more tinkering ...and maybe even make a bolder outline/shadow on the pumpkin itself.

Coolness, glad you like them :-] I'm going to try Sharky's suggestion and will try and make it have more of a 3-D pop :3dglasses

The default lens (should be an 18-55mm zoom) is a great lens. It will do you fine for just about everything to start with. The only place it may fall short is capturing some of the night stuff, and even that can be compensated by using manual settings on your camera. You can find tutorials for just about anything.

Thanks about the decal stuff, and yes - get me something to work with and I'll make something happen with it :thumbsup2

Okay, I am all caught up

I can not wait to see all your pics

I am hoping to get to Disneyland in about 3 years.

I want to go during a regular season with no decorations, as I am sure our trip there will be a one time thing as so expensive coming from here.

So, I want to see it is all au naturale

Those designs are absolutely awesome!! I wish I was half creative enough for something like that, lol. Would totally go all out for my birthday trip in September.

OK, my goal tomorrow is to catch up on all you have because somehow, I keep missing this thread!

Yay for being caught up - with all these threads it is hard to keep up and still get anything done in a day :surfweb: I'll be happy to oblidge on those pics :D

I can understand wanting to see it 'au naturale' to get that classic feeling of the place. Just drink in the pure Disney magic.

3 years is the rough timeframe for us to make it back to WDW, also because of the expense. I think we'll try for early December for that trip to get the holiday feel. We've done two early January trips (one to WDW and one to DLR) so we were there as they were taking down everything.

I have to be honest, it isn't really that much in the way of creativity. I just search the internet for an image that is decent quality and then clean it up/tweak it a bit in photoshop and add the text to it. Like Carla, if you come across an image that you think fits the spirit of your trip, I'm happy to make something up for you :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Thank you for stopping by!

Awesome that's good to know. Any other web sites you could direct me to that might help me out? Maybe you could PM me so I have the information for later? It'd be much appreciated.

To respond to your post on FB, I found a "no interest financing for 6 months" deal through Amazon so rather than wait until I had the money, I went ahead and took advantage of that deal. :woohoo::woohoo: I did 2 day shipping so since today is Sunday I'll have it by Wednesday (it won't ship until tomorrow). I know when I'll have the money to pay it off so it's really not a big deal for me to do it that way and just gets me the camera that much sooner which means I'll be able to use it in May for my Anniversary weekend and in July for my quilt retreat instead of missing out on those opportunities to use it. I'm SO excited and can't wait to get my new toy. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I would have answered you on FB but I didn't feel like hearing what the guy that posted before you would have said. He works with my husband and is a jerk. They're all just so childish. Anyways, there you have it. When I get it I'll let you know what I think and I'm sure I'll have even more questions by then after looking at all the functions it has

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I ordered a remote control for the camera, an 8 GB memory card (currently have a 4 GB in my Point and Shoot) and also a Tri Pod. :thumbsup2 Everything was on sale so I just couldn't pass it all up.

Anyways, sorry I keep taking over your thread with camera talk. Thanks again for all your help

No prob, I'll PM a couple of good ones to you. That's great that you were able to get it ordered and not stress about the $$$ end of it right away. And to be able to use it on a trip so soon is fantastic.

Ahhhh, Mr Cherry suffers from verbal vomit does he? Bummer. Some people just have problems evolving past that 7th grade mentality ;) And ask away if you have questions - it is amazing how much I continue to learn about photography just from talking to others about it.

The remote ad tripod are key for capturing the fireworks shots - good call. My Rebel has a 4GB card and it will hold 1,016 largeformat JPGs, so you'll have double that! Sounds like you're starting out with a good package.

The only other thing I could suggest would be a monopod. You can pick one up for about $30 and for long days of picture taking it is a good compromise between the bulk of a tripod and not having anything to steady your shots.

I got your PM. Thanks! I'm sure it is easier to learn things about photography just from talking to folks. So far I've learned more from you than web sites really. Sometimes those web sites are just more confusing than anything. I'll give those links you sent to me a looksee. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Yes, he does. And you are right about the 7th grade mentality! Thanks for being so willing to answer my questions. I'm considering hoping on the photography board on here. Have you visited them and are they any good?

Thanks :) I'm rather pleased with what I'm getting. I'm sure I'll want a new lens to play with rather fast

Oh yes good idea about the monopod. I thought about getting one but didn't know how much I'd use it really. I'll have to see if I can find one at a good price and pick it up. I'll try and get familiar with the camera first though. I just love new toys. I'm such a geek.

Me and Photoshop aren't getting along too well these days, lol. I'm supposed to be working on this collage for my photography class and I'm just stumped. Couldn't imagine trying to do more with it, lol. Learning, learning, learning. And I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

I ended up taking a full 12-week college course to get a real handle on PS - there is just so much to it. Let me know if you want any hints on getting the collage together, I had to do several for my class. Good luck and try to have fun with it!

Okay, I'm 4 1/2 months out and the time isn't going near quick enough :lmao:

I've never been further west than Terra Haute, Indiana, so I'm no help.

Please tell me you copied and pasted all that information.:lmao:

That sounds a lot like MNSSHP at WDW :thumbsup2

Yes, from what I've read they're very similar. Unfortuantely DLR doesn't get the custom parade or fireworks display, but the party itself seems to follow the same lines.

Well you'll just have to change it up and come out here someday then, woncha? ;) :goodvibes

Oh yes, copied from the disney site and saved it in an e-mail just in case I ever had to reference it again :thumbsup2

Bummer on no custom fire works and no parade but at least the rest of it sounds awesome and the HM is decorated awesomely! I'm totally jealous of that.
