The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Just woke up...this dizzy, headache thing is crap.

Sheryl, great news about Debi!!!!!

Lauren, glad Tom is feeling better. Your new pic is adorable.

Nancy, perfect movie day. Have fun with Kady:hug:

Does anyone know when the DVC "lounge" be ready on the top of C.R? Wonder if we could venture over there for a cocktail~

Greg is going out to meet a friend that was in for Fleet week, he was going to cancel but my Mom will be home at 4:30 so I'll be fine. He also finished another Masters class with an "A" & I was a gardening slave driver over the weekend so he is due for some fun.

I had other things to add but they have vanished from my brain.:confused3

Dinner looks like take out, wonton soup would hit the spot today.

It's a horrible feeling. Hoping it passes soon. My doc gave me a prescription for Antivert and this stuff works very fast.

I'd like to find out about that lounge too! Would love to go with some DVC buddies for a cocktail there, maybe before dinner at Cali Grill.

Congrats to Greg, hope he has fun!

Can't get the pear pie picture to post:confused3

This is one of the Amish recipes I found & tried, very good!

Fresh Pear Pie

3 tablespoons flour
fresh pears, enough to fill pan
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar
milk or cream

Mix together flour and sugar. Slice pears and stir into flour mixture to
coat. Pour mixture into bottom crust. (unbaked pie crust) Pour milk or
cream over pears, enough to cover pears. Sprinkle cinnamon and
sugar over the top. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Test by shaking
pie, done when solid.

Another long busy day and I am beat! I could fall asleep right here at my desk.

Dinner tonight will be salmon, roasted potatoes and creamed spinach.

Sheryl Glad that Debi is cancer free :dance3:

Maria I hope you are feeling better. That pie sounds soo good.

I looks like rain again so I am cooking inside The old stand-by Spaghetti meatballs and garlic bread.

This is the chocolate truffle pie I made the other day :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

1-1/4 pkg 10 squares Bakers semi-sweet chocolate (my suggestion is to use 10 oz of good semi-sweet chocolate ie Guittards)
1/2 c whipping cream
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c flour

Heat oven to 325 degree. Microwave chocolate and cream in micro-safe bowl for 2 minutes or until chocolate in melted. Cool

Wisk in eggs, sugar and flour. Pour into greased pie plate.

bake 35 min or until edge of of pie is puffed but center is still slightly soft; cool. Serve with whipped cream.

Evening Y'all,

Waiting for DH to get home to put the healthy tuna, bok choy, zucchini & portabellas on the grill. Think that will be healthy enough for him? ;)
GREAT NEWS! Thats so wonderful!

I took Kady for a pedicure the day before her First Communion and they had the kid-sized pedicure chairs. She loved it.

WHAT DID YOUR DH SAY!?!?!? Do you need an empty freezer?

I have some Southwest Credits to use, and I cant go anywhere right now. I have all but put her on the plane. She wont go! I tried to get her to NOLA but then I was afraid no one would pick her up from the airport :rotfl2:

I dont do that too often, but she complains that she doesnt go anywhere, but she takes alot of vacations, and poor Pa stays home. :rotfl:

Marisa, You are so funny! :lmao: Send her down here, I'm sure either Kathy or I will manage to pick her up!;) You really do need to put her on a plane to WDW in October!

Oh Bob was very careful not to say anything in reference to my weight! After 30+ years he has finally gotten smart, he said " I really need to take off some weight again. Do you think you could go back to fixing some healthier dinners?" As I said the man is smart. ;)

Alexis thoroughly enjoyed her outing today. Her new favorite book is "Fancy Nancy" and she thinks she IS a fancy nancy that's for sure. We went out to the local pizza place for lunch, all three of us had on skirts. We are sitting there waiting for our pizza when she proclaims ala Fancy Nancy " Look at us in our pretty dresses! We are the fanciest people in this place!" :sad2::laughing:

Here's a pic of her later in the afternoon showing off her nails.

She was so excited that the lady put glitter & painted flowers on her toes.

Another Quickie...

Just wanted to let you guys know that Tom stayed home (lucky me) and is now feeling better. Thank you for the good thoughts.

BBL! I need to get stuff done here and its hard when he is home. I did sneak out to the gym...:yay:

Sheryl - I haven't heard back about the lotion but will let you know ASAP.

Tonight's dinner is a new one for me. Parmesean pesto flounder with rice pilaf and mixed veggies.

Gotta run.

No problem, just let me know! That dinner sounds yummy! I'm still on the hunt for veal at a decent price, either the stores don't carry it or they want an arm & leg for it.

Sorry you're still dizzy, it really does suck!

I thought the lounge in C.R was going to be for guests of C.R villas only? :confused3

She is so cute...going to be a man killer;)
Gotta love a smart husband.

I thought the lounge was just for DVC members, I'm going to look around the Dis see what i come up with.

Dinner tonight roasted lemon chicken, baked potatoes, cranberry sauce & fresh figs for desert.

If you find the veal, let me know. I've been looking as well.

Hi everybody...I still need to read through.

So part of the process to get an apartment in New Orleans is a background check through the police department. We mailed the paperwork - certified - LAST TUESDAY. It has gone missing; the website still lists it as being "accepted" in the Bronx. It should have gotten to NOLA last Thursday or Friday.

First off, I'm annoyed because we cannot get confirmed housing until the background check is processed. If the USPS does not GIVE the papers to the PD, they can't process it.

Secondly, the information that they need is kind of sensitive (SSN, photo ID copies...) and the USPS has no idea where it is. That is the whole reason it was sent CERTIFIED...so it wouldn't GET LOST. :headache: I'm a bit concerned about identity theft....particularly after my credit card number was used in January and I had to get a new number for that, AND my bank sent a debit card (supposedly) that I have not yet received, and I can't deal with that until Saturday because of my work schedule.

Thirdly, it's not particularly expensive, but we had to get money orders for it (no checks accepted) and so if we have to send it again, we will need to pay for it again....the money PLUS the cost of the money orders. :headache:

I called USPS and they will "look for it" to see what happened. I am losing faith with them.

Any ideas?

Okay, vent over...going to go back and read through the thread! :thumbsup2

Okay I wanted to go read back and multiquote, but my internet is down. I will have to try tomorrow. Goodnight.

Hey Y'all,

I have GREAT NEWS!! Debi's biopsy came back, NO CANCER!!! :cool1::banana:
They don't know what the problem is, but it's not cancer so that is good, good, GOOD!! They are sending her to a infectious disease specialist, so we'll have to wait & see what comes of that. But we are all so relieved right now.

:yay::yay::yay:

Aimee...I never put a ticker in my sig because DH & I share this screen name. It was originally his and I latched on. I didn't think he would appreciate a pregnancy ticker :rotfl:.... I am 36 weeks today !!

 Does your DH ever post under "his" name still?

I can't believe you're so close!!!!!!!

 She is one gorgeous Fancy Girl.

I had the longest day ever - summer is officially here! I can't get my stuff done; looks as if I'll be working Fri and Sat this week to get a handle on things before I start leaving town on trips. This summer is especially hard as I lost my 3 support staff people :sad2: But it'll be good - if I can get it all pulled together!

I had a leftover Boca burger and pasta salad.

Anyone have a remedy for a headache that just won't go away? Advil, Excedrin, cold rag and a dark room, sleep... nothing has worked. I feel horrible. I have PMS and I'm sure that's what's causing it, but dangitall, I need some relief.

I'm going to make kitten Cajun pasta tonight. It's easy so I don't mind cooking tonight.

Lindsay Don't laugh Pamprin is my new best friend. I ran out a couple of months ago and have been suffering. I am going back to the store to stock up.

Aimee Hold on

Maria Hoping today is a a better day for you

Ann Soon  Does Luke have any idea what is about to happen?

Sheryl I forgot to mention last night I love the fancy feet.;)

Tonight is library night so dinner will be something fast. Hopefully no rain so I can grill.

My grass is so tall I think a short family is living in there. I never got to the lawn on monday since the rain came early.

Bless you!! I will be making a run to the drug store.

I'm getting ready to plug the crockpot in! Going to try the Chinese orange beef recipe that Aimee posted. We'll also have brown rice and eggrolls.

Have a great day everyone!:goodvibes

Ann Soon  Does Luke have any idea what is about to happen?

He knows Emma Sophie is in my belly and kisses it once and a while. But I don't think he has an idea his world is about to be rocked. I have been reading him a Big Brother book to prepare. I was crying the other day about having to leave him while I am in the hospital. He is a Momma's boy for sure, and I just don't want him scared. :sad1:

 Does your DH ever post under "his" name still?

I can't believe you're so close!!!!!!!

He posts alot more when we have a trip coming. Which right now won't be for a while because of his new job and Emma. He didn't have much time with both jobs before but now he is going on a little more. He generally posts on boards I don't (transportation, DVC, rates, resorts...remember he is my travel agent! :lmao:)

We are the fanciest people in this place!" :sad2::laughing:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: She is to cute !!!!! Glad you girls had fun. I said to DH yesterday I think I need a pedicure so my feet look prettier in stir-ups! He just shook his head like I was nuts, but I was serious!!!

Gotta run and get DS and myself ready. I have an early O/B appointment and need to drop him off to my parents. Fill you all in later.

WFD- Shake & bake pork chops, apple sauce, peas, and rice pilaf.

Good Morning!

OK, I am doing this from memory so please forgive me if I miss something!

Marilyn, So glad you had a nice trip! Sorry you missed Assateaque (sp). I don't remember it but we visited the wild horse when I was young.

Sheryl, Great news for Debi!!! So glad you are enjoying Alexis...her pics are adorable!

Laura, Glad you all are enjoying Greg being home!

Maria, Congrats to Greg! I hope today finds you feeling better! I love furbaby snuggle time...that should put a smile on your face.

Maria and Janice, Those pie recipes looks awesome!

Charlene, Your salads are always better than mine. I think my Mom is going to drive me nuts. Jane already told me to take 2 pills (to relieve anxiety) instead of 1!!! :scared1:

Marisa, How could you spill the beans on Nan??? Now you have to give her your miles!!! ;)

*********
I made the Trader Joe's Flat Iron steak last night seasoned in chipolte bbq sauce. I grilled it and then served it as tacos. Boy, that was really good. Tom said that has to be on the TJs buy list all the time. The meat was so tender and flavorful.

I have to volunteer this afternoon at market day so dinner will be quick. I am thinking spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs will be frozen market day ones. Not the best but Tom and Andrew love them. Salad and maybe bread on the side.

Have a great day all! Time for the treadmill.

See I forgot something...

Bethany, Sorry you are having a hard time with the USPS. They do rot when it comes to lost packages. They lost a package of ours once. We were shipping a $300 rc car that we sold on Ebay and it got lost and took them over a month to rectify the claim. My only negative Ebay feedback and it was not even my fault!

Hoping all goes well with your appt.!

Praying for you my friend.

Kyle discovered the spicy black bean dip and finished it off, we all loved it! Keep that on my buy list for sure! The garlic is great also.:goodvibes The only other thing we've tried are the cookies....taste just like oreos to me...:confused3
