Why have I been told the WDW board is scary

Hope it's ok to ask this!!!!! I have GF's who live on the east coast & visit WDW frequently & would go to the WDW disboards for info. They tell me it's very catty & know-it-all over there....they don't even use it anymore!!!

I love this board - the info has been spot-on, the people are kind & gracious, and I'm totally addicted! ;)

If I ever entertained the thought of going to WDW (never have yet), I'd obviously stop in there first for info. But now I'm scared!! LOL!

Are the DL vs WDW boards really that different?

Well I've used both, and they are very helpful on both sides, but I would say that ,like WDW itself it's just a bit more intense! But ask away, and if you do get any untoward reponses, ignore them. However, my most severe reprimand was on tour guide Mike's forum, where I dared to ask whether Ridemax was useful! never Again!

There are on disboards some cliques. Just like society as a whole there are bad apples but as a whole all boards are well moderated:thumbsup2 and I feel there are a lot less bad people on disboards than in real life, way fewer. I have never had a problem with WDW boards and am on disAbilities at WDW boards and we are a little family that helps each other and others.. I would say you need to dive into the boards and meet the people there instead of listening to rumors.

That's surprising.

From time to time the Tour Guide Mike forum has questions about RideMax, and the responses have been fair.

(I've been at TGM for a year and a half.)

Maybe TGM was having a bad hair day? :upsidedow

The WDW DISboard is a steamroller of a forum. Sometimes new posts move down to the second page in less than an hour.

But with that said, I have asked questions there a few times, and every time I've received good answers.

:earsboy:

I agree with the OP .. not only the WDW boards but the community boards they have totally ignored some post of mine. you know some pepole just put random post to say what ever and once i did it to and i didint get once single response i mean that sucks!

Yes, I've had that happen too. It is like being a forum ghost and some people can't see you. :rotfl: I've also asked questions about WDW over there and got some very quick and friendly answers. So, just depends.

Sometimes we here on the DL forum get into a kerfluffle. Spirits are high, reactions are high, etc. But then it goes away and all is well.

On the other boards, and trust me, I go there every single day (y'all don't think I spend my WHOLE online day on this one forum), they get into bigger kerfluffles much more often. Routinely, even.

I personally would not jump right in asking questions without at least looking at their sticky threads...I would read for a few days, going back several pages, just to see if my question had been answered.

Don't ask over there if you can use an "extra" day of your ticket to hop! Just don't ask that. :rotfl:

Yes, this is my main problem with the WDW boards compared to the DLR boards. Many people over there refuse/glance over the smaller questions and oftentimes they don't get answered.

As for the nastiness, it could be seen as a bit harsh, especially if a newbie really doesn't know something. As a possibility instead of posting on the WDW boards, you can probably post on the DLR community board and get a much nicer response. There are plenty of DLR board members who have been to WDW and can give good advice.

I think that Disney experts have a certain intensity about the subject matter, built are really helpful when I have asked relatively newbie questions.

One of the few times I have actually posted on the WDW boards it was in response to pool hopping at the resorts. I merely stated how I felt about it, as others had done before me. The thread was about 10 pages long and when I posted it was already a tad heated. But shortly after I posted, about the next morning, I checked it and the thread was closed. I read the final posts and apparently all heck had broken loose! Someone commented on how the people who find pool hopping ok are the ones staying at the "cheap" resorts, and that hit a nerve for some...it was crazy.

But for the other posts I have responded to I didn't encounter any problems with what I said, but after reading some threads I did notice they weren't as "personal" as the DLR boards. I suppose because they have more "regulars" to keep up with causing them to be more impersonal...idk.

Just my 2¢
:)

I regularly check this and disAbilities. If I cannot answer a question then I wait as usually someone will answer. At disAbilities I will sometimes post a welcome and we will get to your question type of post.

I am not a WDW expert except on disabilities and food so I stay off the other WDW boards. Maybe I am missing something. IF your question is not answered then bump it until it has 50 bumps. do make sure your question has not been answered before recently. DLR boards had like 5 or 6 earthquake posts running and why, who knows. I see questions that are easily answered with Google, calling Disney, and the Disney sites. I still smile and respond as it is not for me to ask why someone does not Google.

Also there are moderators and I know of some real nice ones and you should talk to them about any complaints about the board. If you do not have success with them then contact webmaster Kathy.

I rather rejoice in this board all the happy things and now am going back to answering questions and holding the hand of people who are nervous about their trip plans. Reassure them that everything will be alright and if not that they can roll with the Disney punches.:thumbsup2

It helps for folks to do a "Search" first. Most boards I am on get pretty tired of answering the same question over and over again from lazy people who would rather post the same question in a new thread that was answered in 50 other posts. Some folks can get pretty snarky because of that, unfortunately.

I agree with the above posters about doing a search on the WDW forums. They have a lot of good information over there. Then if you want to ask a different question you can, or if you want to add to an existing thread you can. :-)yay: for search working) The boards have a lot more people, threads move much faster, and so it's easier, I think, for things to escalate before the mods can see what is going on and handle hot spots.

Here we have a smaller group, and some long-standing members who know that we want to keep the DL side of the boards friendly to everyone who comes here, so they usually alert us when there are posts that are not so friendly so we can take care of them. (so thank you!) However, those posts are usually few and far between, and just about everyone really is super nice here in our corner of the boards in the natural flow of posts. :goodvibes

Other sites might want to pick apart the Disneyland Resort and point out the small flaws. Our boards tend to focus on making the best of your visit, whether you're a local or visiting from out-of-town. All of this leads to more friendlier discussions on this side.

Even though the WDW boards might be a bit more rougher than our corner, there are some really good resources over there, so I'd go ahead & recommend trying them out. :)

Analogy time! :goodvibes:

WDW boards are to a city as DL boards are to a close-knit community. :)

This is a very sweet sentiment, but might it also be the beginnings of "us" and "them" definitions that can spin out of control until you have the sort of clique behavior and exclusion that are being decried in this thread?

Nah. People aren't excluded on purpose, it's just that things move fast on the WDW forums, and it's all dependent on who sees the thread and what other posts are going on at the same time. If everyone's involved in helping someone see, for the 18000th time in one thread, that you can't use an extra day of ticket to hop, they aren't going to see another question, and then it drops to the next page and very few people go beyond the first or second page.

As for cliques...even the clique threads on the Community Board are there for anyone to join. They aren't hidden. As long as you're willing to figure out what the jokes are and join in, those can be fun. And I don't see at at all on the WDW planning forums, which is what the OP was asking about! OK maybe there's a Robo fan clique, but that's open to anyone who appreciates his maps. :goodvibes

editing in the end of my point...piglet's feelings about being in this forum aren't the beginnings of a clique or exclusion "like" people say happens there, b/c it's not happening there, AND feeling at home in one place doesn't mean the other place is bad. Heck, I live in a nice, impersonal downtown and LOVE it, so being in a city isn't bad, but it can be nice to get back to a cozier home. :)

I've been on the WDW boards alot, and never felt abused in any way. I also love it over here too as we are getting ready for our trip to DLR for the first time.

BUT I have gotten flamed over on the Universal board asking about what to do if someone doesn't like rollercoasters (DH can't do them)... OY, that is a touchy subject over there!;):rotfl:

LOL!! I think I SAID that myself!! Ooh...glad I didn't go back after I got my question answered... :rotfl: My DH is the same way & often making everyone happy is impossible I've found...

I've had the same experience...

Which is fine now that the search feature is working. Unfortunately, when I was planning a WDW trip a couple of years ago, it wasn't working.

Or as Al Lutz would say: "There's an answer the old timers at Disney like to give when asked to compare the Anaheim and Orlando main parks, and to me it still applies as to how they are currently run: Disneyland is a park designed by a father for his daughters, while the Magic Kingdom is designed by a committee for the hordes." No flames please, I like both DL and WDW.

Why can't you park hop if you have an extra day on a park hopper ticket at WDW? :confused3 I thought that's the value of a PH ticket -- so you can park hop. :confused3
