Ship Verandah ??

I have a question about the locks or the setup of the "patio doors". My youngest will be 5 at the time of the cruise and she's completely fearless. Last time we went, we only had my daughter who was 2 and couldn't get out onto the verandah without our help. You guys just came back from the cruise - can anyone tell me if it would be safe to have a verandah on this cruise with two young girls? I really don't want my DD5 jumping over the railing into the ocean. :scared1:

Also, since I'm not thrilled with boats (think Titanic :rotfl:), can anyone who was in a stateroom with one of those big porthole thingys tell me if it opens??

Thanks for helping out a paranoid Momma! :thumbsup2

The doors slide and have a lock at the very top you have to turn to lock and unlock. The handle goes down to open or lifts up to stay closed. It's a pretty heavy door, but I don't think my kids will bother it.

The portholes do not open.

As a fairly strong adult, I had trouble opening the verandah doors. They are heavy.

You are far to lady like to refer to yourself as a strong adult. You should have beckoned and I would have open the door for you. :bowing smiley:

I am a strong adult (in a manner of speaking) and not unintelligent (IMNSHO) but DW had to show me how to open the verandah door.

I thought it slid. . . .

Aaaawwwwwww.......:love::love::love:

Miss You!

I am the proud owner of a young lady who one would think would attempt to jump over the side of the ship. After returning from 1.0, I can say I am STILL the owner. It wasn't even an issue. It was something I was concerned about, and we had no worries whatsoever. The door was hard to open.

However my DS11 had no problems opening the door. :rotfl::rotfl:

Speaking of "over the side", thank you Nicole for not lofting one of us over.

As long as you are in control of the lock on the top of the slider, there should be no problems. Frankly, it took us a while to figure out the lock and handle for the door.

I was wondering about this myself. I could just envision my kids going out there before I woke up and falling over! :scared1: If there is a lock that high up though, we should be good, and that really makes me feel better. DH really wants the verandah, so that's what I got the quote for. Now I just have to hope my kids pick up a little common sense between now and then.

Just to point out to help allay some fear... The titantic took a while to sink.... Nearly 3 hours. There was MORE than enough time for everyone to get off the boat. The PROBLEM with the Titanic was that there were not enough life boats, something that is NOT an issue on modern cruise lines.

So there is no need to worry about the portholes, etc.

Plus, iceburgs in the Bahamas are REALLY rare! :goodvibes

:lmao: Seriously, don't laugh, but when I went on my first cruise (2004) and I found out that the ship SAILED RIGHT THROUGH the Bermuda Triangle, my friends and husband had to hold me down to keep me from cancelling our trip.

Okay, you can laugh... I do too... :rotfl: now.:thumbsup2

That's one of those things you should probably not admit too. ;-)
