Can you pay extra to upgrade a child to an adult on dining plan?

Does any one know if I could pay to upgrade my DD to an adult on the dining plan..she is 9 and is none to thrilled with much of the kids picks lol...come on now, would you be thrilled with them Just asking!!!

I asked this question on Disboards about 9 months ago( we are leaving in a few weeks) My answer was if you upgrade the dining then you must upgrade the park tickets to adult and room rates to adult also. Just the room alone on a deluxe was about $400.00 more for the week. We decided to just leave it as it is.
Someone gave a good suggestion. He said he and his child shared their meals. The child usually picked the appetizer.
Call Disney Dining at 407-WDW- DINE and ask a CM. They should be able to give you the correct answer.

I figured it would be something like that! Oh well, I am sure we will just do plenty of sharing and buy her a couple oop desserts maybe. Room rate should NOT have been higher when 'up-aging' a nine-year-old to a ten-year-old. The rate is not affected by the number of "Disney adults", but by the number of adults eighteen and over. Even then, the added cost is no more than $25 per night (plus tax). Sure, there's a difference in ticket price - but NOT $400!

If it were me, I would just budget the difference between the child and adult plans and use that cash for OOP meals and treats. I would also plan some buffets, as there are no restrictions as to what the child can or can not eat at the buffet restaurants. Between those two, you should be able to get enough variety going to make her happy.

That is our problem as well. I just tried to do a few buffets and pick places that will have better options for her. She is very interested in trying the steak at LeCellier. 'Ohana is also a great choice for my dd. We figure that by picking a few buffets she will get to have more choices and if we have to share or supplement a few, it won't break the bank.

Wellsince I am planning to call and make a payment today, I think I will just ask to see what they say! We are plannign to do a couple buffets, Chef Mickey's and maybe Crystal Palace...Ohanas is definetly on our list, it is a family favorite!! Actually my DD has asked to eat there twice LOL. I dont know about that.
Who knows maybe she wont even care, maybe its just me being a bit obsessive about teh food planning!

If your plan is to eat at a lot of buffets or all you can eat fixed price places, it might not be worth the money to upgrade, as the kid eats the same food for the child price at these places as the adults do.

In that particular case, just take the extra cash and use it to supplement the child's CS meals.

Thanks for the reply! I have two rooms at Board Walk and one is about $400.00 higher for the week than the other. She said it was because our 9 year old turned 10. Each room has 2 adults/2 children. I am going to definitely call and recheck!

Yes - an extra adult is only for over 18s. My DS is 13 and DD is 8, we don't pay extra for a room charge for DS, just ticket and adult prices for buffets.

Maybe you could just change her birth year on their records and consider her a 10 year old in the Disney system!

Looks like you are going during Free Dining.

If that is the case all you would have to do is change her birth year and then pay the difference from a child's ticket to an adults ticket. But now Disney will have her in the system as a year older which might be bad in the future. Also you are now letting her know that it's okay to lie.

That's not a problem at all. You can't go the other way around, but they will let anyone order off the kids menu.

We are going in September with free dinning I upgraded my 6 year to a 10 year old so he can order off the adult menus. He is a really big eater and would never have been happy with the children's menus. We only had to pay an extra $50 for the adult park ticket. When I asked the CM on the phone if it was ok he had no problem doing it at all. We had booked our trip a while back with a 40% pin code then changed it to the Free Dinning promo. So there was no lying at all, the CM knew what I was asking him to do. In the end even with the ticket upgrade it was $70 less then with the cost of the trip with the 40% code.

That's what we did, our 8 day trip increase was about $50 total. No increase on the room charge, just tickets and we are on free dining, so no change there.

We just called and told the CM what we wanted to do when my DD was 9 (she didn't particularly like eating "kid" food either). The cost was very minimal, maybe around $40 for our 8 night trip. No lying involved, the CM said people ask about it all the time.

this is my dilemma and I have just realized it. We are going July 24-July 30 and July 31- Aug 7, I had to do a split because of the 4/3 deal. So anyway my dd is 9 when we go, but she turns 10 on July 31st. I asked about that when I booked and she said she will be 9 the whole 2 weeks as that was what she was when you booked .... ok so here is what I just thought of ..... because it is a split stay she will be 10 on the day we check in for our second week (we are staying at same resort and have continuous stay on our ressie), will they say oh your daughter is now 10 and charge me all the extras? It is a big amount to me so I dont want any surprises.


So because I just realized this I went on to the 35% off for summer and took of the dining plan, dont need tickets got 10day, so will need room only, it will be $100. cheaper. Another thing I never thought of as I was considering the QSDP was.....when I was pricing out what we spent on food a day it was $100. for 4 of us (CS ONLY) and 2 snack/drinks each...that is pretty much what the dining plan was......only one thing I missed...the dining plan my dd is 9 so only gets the crappy kids meals, oop she was getting the same thing we would be getting........so now I am wondering if I should just cancel the second week and rebook room only??????? Suggegitons are good.....

I just called to see how much for my DS to upgrade and they told me that it was approx $12/day for child and $30/day for adult. It came out to to approx $300 extra to change him to an adult plan. I would like to know who you talked to about it only costing $50 or so, because I will call them and change it with them.

We are not on the free dining, we are on the 4/3 instead.
