I know its probably in another thread somewhere that I cant find but can someone tell me what Disney is like around and after August 10th? I was told that they usually throw in dining this time of year also is this right? Thanks for your help!

Free dining has been offered at the end of August the last two years. I came home on Aug. 11th last year and the free dining did not start until after I was home.

It was very hot. Be especially careful at Animal Kingdom.

But it is fun and very enjoyable with planning. I like to go early - emh or rope drop at least then go to a waterpark or back to the hotel during the heat of the day and back at night.

Drink lots of water, take breaks,

You'll have a ball.

The possible heat and rain cannot be overlooked. But if you are prepared for that, you'll have a blast! Plan on lots of after dark activities.

Have a great trip! I've enjoyed WDW at 105 degrees and at 30 degrees! I love WDW at any degrees! :)

Hi There,
I will be in Disney from August 6th to the 15th... how cool is that!

We'll be there August 9-14! How fun!! :dance3: I'm hoping that since it's before Free Dining, the crowds might be a little thinner....wishful thinking I know!

It's not a bad time to be there, with nice long hours and numerous shows and parades. But as a local with an AP, it's my least favorite time. Unless I'm going for specific meets or events, I always avoid July and August. I just don't need the heat and crowds when I have the other 10 months to go anytime I want to. :)

Joe: I also see that you are going to celebrate your birthday... Happy Birthday in advance ha! :bday:

Amanda: I was thinking the exact same thing, that hopefully it would be less crowded just before the free dining ha! :rotfl: How crazy is that!!!

Floydian: Some people have all the luck, I wish I was close to my Happy place.

Well thank you very much...I'm going to be celebrating at Epcot on my Birthday with a Character Breakfast (Cape May) at the beginning and Character Dinner (1900 Park Fare) at the end!!!

No worries, crowds aren't a problem as long as you know what you're doing. Lots of ways to avoid the crowds. :thumbsup2

It sounds like quite a few folks are coming down.

Given that I had really no troubles at all with my dining reservations, it doesn't sound like the crowds are going to be an issue.

I remember back in 2005, there was a Hurricane sitting off the coast and it was supposed to hit during the week we were there. It turned at the last moment and we had perfect weather the whole week...but since it was a threat, many people canceled their vacations, leaving the parks with very few people the entire time.

No worries, everything will be great.

Last year, I got to the Studios just a few minutes before rope drop and was way in back of the crowd and...well...look where I ended up in line for Toy Story Mania.

First in line!!! It just can't get much more fun than that.

Note: There seems to be something up at the Studios on August 12. For some reason, dining is booked fairly solid, only at the studios for that day. There is EMH that evening at the Studios, but there's no Fantasmic playing. Still, that alone shouldn't cause those bookings, since its happening nowhere else all week...I got every time I asked for without problem. I'm eating at Epcot that day and at the Studios on another day that's playing Fantasmic (so I don't miss it).

Anyway, just a tip, go somewhere besides the Studios on August 12.

Thanks for the tip, Joe! :thumbsup2 We'll probably head to DHS earlier in the week (can't wait to try TSM!!!).
Nat, I read your entire TR last night! Your kids are soooooo cute! Glad y'all had fun (and to be honest, I cry at the end of vacations too! :sad1: )

Where's everyone staying? We'll be at the Pop Century for our package, while staying at a Fort Wilderness Cabin a few nights before.

We're staying at the Boardwalk Villas (my hubby's first time ever!). I thought an Epcot hotel would be perfect (we're both a couple of nerds )

Aww, certainly nothing nerdy about Epcot, its great. I love strolling along World Showcase, as well as all of the great rides in Future World.

We will also be there around the same time.
Have never been there in August although the hot weather doesn't scare us away!

Staying at the AKL; could not pass up the great deal.

Always thinking magical thoughts...........
