We're staying on the strip, at Circus Circus (not my first choice, but it's what the budget would handle!) We won't have a car for most of the time, though we might be able to go with friends for part of it.
Tell me about decent buffets that won't break the bank on or near the strip, please.
Years and years ago, my family used to go and stay at Bourbon Street (I don't think it's even there any longer) and stay up late and take advantage of Barbary Coast's .99 late night breakfast deal, or 3.99 steak and eggs deal. Anything like that still happening anywhere? Where should I look? We'll be there 4 nights/5 days. I'd imagine we wouldn't have any trouble with a late night or two.

Check out a vegas message board. (That is what it is called - google it) There is a thread for food and a budget friendly thread. Vegas is not the land of cheap eats anymore so it takes some planning to find some good deals. Good Luck!

My wife and I are going in a week. We are going to try the new mResort. It is south on the strip near South Pointe. It has a buffet that includes beer and wine for about 18 bucks. I let yall know if it is anygood. It has gotten some good reviews on vegas message boards and twitter.

It is good. I've been there and really enjoyed the Studio B buffet. Sign up for the players club to get a discount. But be warned, because it's new, when we were there (on a Wed afternoon no less) the line to get in was really long!!!

Silverton. When I was in Las Vegas in December, some nights most of the restaurants had 50% discounts at dinner.

Also, um, hold on, I'm thinking... oh, yeah. Hash House a Go Go on West Sahara. I swear, one entree will feed eight people. Okay, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration - but we ate there once, and at Claim Jumper once. Between what I took back from the two restaurants, and having a fridge in my room... I didn't need to purchase any other food all week.

Never been, but I know lots of people who rave about the steak special at Ellis Island. It's a steak, potato, veggie and a beer or root beer for I don't remember how much, but it's less than $10.

It's $6.95. Ate there last week. You also get a salad. The meal was yummy as always. They usually have a wait for tables too. We went at 11:30 am. and had to wait 20 minutes.

We always laugh at the name of the restaurant. It's called "The Restaurant".

Luxor $35 a day unlimited access to the buffet and it includes draft beer and house wine. The same deal at the Excalibur is $25.(not sure if it includes the alcohol though).
