10% gratuity at Peppermill CSR and DDP?

I was wondering how this works with the DDP? Do you just pay OOP for the added 10% gratuity? Cash? Room charge?
I thought I read somewhere that if you order things "to go" they don't add the 10%. Can you order to go, and then eat there anyway?
Can you tell I've never been there!? Thanks!

I am delighted to tell you that the 10% tip is included in the DP at the Pepper Market. The tip is also included at the Hoop de Doo and Aloha Dinner shows.

Enjoy!

While I stayed at Coronado early April, I actually asked about this. Pepper Market does not add on a gratuity if you are on the dining plan, but that means that the server does not get anything, Disney is not covering the tip. I left the cash I felt warrented at the table. I asked the person at the front seating everyone (may have been a manager, she was dressed differently then I remember the hostess dressing) not a server.

My most recent trip was in September of 2008 and I was told that the server did get the 10% tip then. Back when tips were included on the DP there were a few places, Puck's, Maya Grill to name two, who only paid the servers a set amount regardless of what was ordered. I always left a bit extra at those places. At the Peppermill since the server only brought me a drink, and seldom a refill I did not, unless they did something extra. Things might have changed but since I have not read about it on the boards I am not sure that they have. Possibly a server who wanted to get more of a tip told you wrong or they were just mistaken? Or I am. :goodvibes

Slightly Goofy/who wishes tips were included again

Okay, I'm still a wee bit confused. Looks like some think the 10% is included with the DDP and some think not. Even if the server is only bringing drinks to the table, looks like I'm still supposed to tip based on the total price of our meal? I don't want to stiff anyone out of their tip, but what if we just get the stuff ourselves? Is that even possible? I guess it's no different than tipping at a buffet like Crystal Palace. We leave a 20% tip and the server basically brings drinks and sometimes clears away plates. I just want to be clear that the server WILL NOT be receiving 10% via the DDP. Is that right? :upsidedow:

That's what I was told in April 2009. You are not required to add a tip (it is not added to the check when you go to the register) but they are not given any tip unless you give it to them. I was very specific in what I asked, I mentioned not wanting to double tip, but also not wanting to stiff the server. She seemed knowledgable about the dining plan, I also asked her what desserts qualified, and what I could get as a snack. She was not dressed as a server. I was not sure either way based on what I had read here before going, that is why I asked, you may want to do the same.

Thanks! :thumbsup2 I will probably end up asking when we go, (because I'm anal like that) but I like to have a heads up!

Hi there!

I believe that you were told that the tip was not included. I know I was. It gets confusing and maybe things changed between your trip and mine or one of us was given the wrong information.:confused3

I do know that I was told, by a server at the Maya Grill, that they just got a set tip no matter what was ordered. When I first heard this I was a bit taken aback but after it was confirmed by several other folks during the trip I believed it to be true. It gets awfully confusing. Of course even if they are ONLY getting $5 a meal it can still add up to a healthy wage IMO.

At the Pepper Market you go and get your own food, and have to wait in line while it is being prepared and the waitstaff basically just brings you a drink.

No tip is asked at Wolfgang Puck's Express, where they also bring your dinner to you, you get your own silverware and drink. I always leave one though, seems only right.

Maybe someone else would care to join in and tell us their experience?:goodvibes

I think part of hte problem at the Pepper Market is that a lot of the staff does not speak very good English and that they aren't really sure what is and what isn't. We were told we DID NOT have to pay the 10% gratuity at Pepper Market every single time we dined there on the dining plan (the last three years).

KatMark, thank you for chiming in. I was beginning to fear that I had the wrong info and I had stiffed my wait person. Even though I truly believe that the DW staff is extremely well compensated I would hate to do that.

Figuring 18% on the over inflated prices times how many tables they serve and the average amount of people at each table. The math boggles my mind.

I do not mind tipping but do mind HAVING to tip when not that much service is given.

I wish that DW would make it a bit easier to determine what the staff is getting and who is supposed to be paying it. Would make it a tad easier on our foreign visitors who are not used to tipping as well.

I love the QS option. Fits my lifestyle, such as it is. :rotfl:
