I have a room only reservation and have just finished saving up the money for my tickets and one of the Dining Plans.

My questions are these: Which plan would be the best for us, me and my 16 yr old dtr, the QS or DDP?

2) If we select the DDP can we swap crdits down, like a TS meal for a CS meal or snacks?

I do not have my vacation planned yet and I do not know how many TS restaurants we should plan to go to.

I am so confused about this, please help!

If you like a sit down meal, I would definately go with the DDP. We did the DDP in January and the sit down meals were very enjoyable! We liked several of the counter meals, but the table service meals were some of the highlights of our trip! Some CS restaurants may allow you to use a TS meal, but I'm not sure why you would want to since a TS credit is worth at least $20 or more, and most CS credits are worth an avg or $10 so it wouldn't be a good value. We did use one child's tS credit for a CS but it took the CS cashier about 10 minutes to figure out how to ring it up at the GF. If you do the DDP, I planned which park we would go to on each of our days, and planned our TS ADR's around that. For the most part I planned 1 TS each day, typically for dinner. Epcot has the most choices, so the day we visited there, we did 2 TS restaurants: Coral Reef for Lunch and Teppan Edo for Dinner. Both were great. You can check out all the menus on Allears.net under the dining tab. It might take a little time now, but when you are on vacation everything will be set and it will be easy. Have fun with your planning!

Whether or not to get a dining plan, and which one to get is very subjective. If you find a plan that a) matches the types of meals you want to eat, and b) you think you will use most or all of the entitlements, then you're typically better off getting that dining plan.

As for "swapping" credits, in general that is not allowed. Exception: during "free dining", you will likely (based on previous years) be able to trade 1 TS for 1 CS and 2 snacks, since the TS restaurants will be booked solid.

If you have a room only reservation you will have to convert it to a package including tickets before you can purchase the dining plan. If you were planning to buy the tickets separately, you will not be able to do that AND get the dining plan.

That will also mean you'll need to take note of the deposit, payment and cancellation policies for package reservations - they're very different from room only reservations.

If you booked the room only through a third party like Expedia, you won't be able to convert it to a package. You would have had to book through Disney for that.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I read somewhere on the boards here that a guest swpped their CS credits in for snacks and they received 4 per credit (or close to). I was wondering if that was possible or not?

From what's been posted, you cannot swap your CS credits for snack credits to use anywhere. What people have been able to do (and it apparently only works at resorts, not in the parks) is pick up several snacks at a resort CS and pay for them with a CS credit. You may want to ask at your resort CS if they will let you do this before you pick up the snacks and get in line.
