New blog- Picnic in the Park

Can each person choose a different type of sandwich for Tier 1, or do you need to choose only one type for the whole party?

DH and I will be trying this in May. I think that the meal for 3 will be ok for us as we can have a sandwich each (maybe 1 and a half) and save the rest for later. If you picked it up at say 11am had a sandwich and then had a snack later (would also hopefully avoid a larger lunch time crowd).

I would like to do this when we go down in June. The problem is that my DD and her friend are both vegetarians and I don't see any options for them other than the sides. Anyone know anything different? Doesn't make any sense for me to have three sandwiches while they eat mac and cheese.

Thanks for the post, Kathy! This looks like a great idea for our July trip. We do love Flame Tree BBQ so it will be hard to pick!!!

We have exactly the same problem! We love Flame Tree, but the Picnic looks wonderful too. Hmmm... Maybe we can get the picnic for lunch and share something at Flame Tree for dinner. :thumbsup2

There were no vegetarian options. Maybe once they see it is popular they will add one.

Thanks for the quick answer. That is unusual for Disney; they are very good at accommodating vegetarians. Maybe when we go down there I will stop by and inquire and when told, “Well you can have the turkey sandwich without the turkey,” I’ll ask to see a manager. No sense paying the same price for a sandwich with just lettuce and tomato. Maybe spur some action.

Thanks. I think the chicken would be enought for 4, along with the desserts. The sides I thought were skimpy for 3. The water is the small bottles so you would want to buy a drink or two.

Thanks so much! As always I appreciate the info! :thumbsup2

So tier 1 can be used with the dining plan only or is it 2 and three? Great idea... I am so excited about it!

We want to do this when we go in 2 weeks.

My question...there are 4 of us so will the picnic cost us 4 quick service credits or 1 quick service credits if we are on the DDP? I ask because they say picnic for a number of people for a cost.

I just called Tables in Wonderland and was told "no", you can't use the DDE/TIW card for the Picnic in the Park.

I have been wondering - what is keeping people from sitting on and using the picnic tables that are supposed to be reserved for the picnic in the park paying people? From the pictures, it looks as if anyone can just plop down there to rest or to even eat their own food that isn't from the picnic in the park . . .

Are there CM's there? Is the area roped off?

ETA: OK - I just listened to the whole podcast and heard the answer to this - the answer is nope - there is no way you are going to get a table during busy times. ha But the good news is like Pete said - you can always go to other places to eat like the regular tables outside of Tusker and the nice area by the water behind Flame Tree.

Sorry to repeat myself. Can you pick the sides and desserts or is it a set menu? Thanks

I am wondering this also, and as well as another poster asked if the tier one sandwiches can be individually ordered or does it have to all be the same?

Another question for you:

Example: Party of 4. Can i mix tier 1 and 2. What i mean is that the 2 adult take tier 1 and my 2 kids tier 2?

thanks.
