FOOD PORN WARNING (and grease warning too!!!)

So I was sitting here on my day off and enjoying resting, watching tv and then got pretty hungry. I googled "Monte Cristo" and to my surprise I had literally hundreds of recipes to choose from...and thus my version of cheese Monte Cristo arrived...

First, I took some flour, baking powder, and salt and sifted it together and then mixed it with one egg and water. Then I took two pieces of bread, spread one side with dijon mustard and sprinkled the other side with a handful of shredded monterey jack and cheddar cheese (I would have added ham if I had it!). I then carefully dipped the bread in the thick batter and then placed in a frying pan which was preheated and coated with canola oil. Waited until it was crispy and light brown on each side and then turned it down and waited for a bit for the cheese to melt...mmm...check it out!

Then I got some strawberry preserves, added a little water to thin it out to make it great for dipping. And finally I sprinkled some powdered sugar on top. YUMMMMM! Its already gone... And I already want more!

Now that I know how to make them...I hope I'm not home for lunch on a regular basis! (No way the DH would eat this, too much of a health nut)

Now you just need to learn to make a cookie boat, and we'll all start making PS's at YOUR house.....;)

:lmao:

Well thank you very much!

But remember, this is not a reservation...and please arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled PS...blah blah blah

But hmm...I wonder if I could make a cookie boat?
:rotfl:

I have made many different ones before and they are yummy but it tastes better in DL for some reason :goodvibes

I can't wait to try it sometime this next year. On one of the trips I'll have to fool the DH to go to Cafe Orleans (since I doubt he'll like anything on the menu) or convince him its worth it to go to Blue Bayou so I can actually experience the Disney magic of the wonderfulness that is the Monte Cristo!

Well Look at You!:yay: You made one of my favorite treats at the park!

It's yummy with turkey and the swiss cheese.

I had a really yummy salad when we ate there last time. DBF did the MC and we shared a little bit, I had a quarter of his sandwich, the rest was off limits. LOL

HurleySweetie, that sandwich looks dee-lish!;)
Great job, I might try one myself.

And PW71, congrats on the new tag, the TF has been working overtime here on the Disneyland boards!:cutie:

I know lulu, the TF is loving the Land right now. :) I hope she knows how much we love her too! :)

That looks mighty good. I confess that I have never in about 16 years of going to DL had a Monte Cristo! DH & I are determined to have one this trip!!! So much good food so little time! Do the ones at DL have mustard on them? I dont remember reading that before?

I think your version sounds better! I don't like ham and swiss anyway so I've never gotten one at DL.

We could start our own DLR cookbook! :rotfl: This summer I had my own Bengal BBQ skewers. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2224517

I now make the sauce and put it on other things too. But you are right, it isn't the same as being there.

Wow...that looks AWESOME!!! I love MCs!!!

Maybe I'll try this out...make it a dinner meal...hang a few paper lanterns and string up some "fireflies" to come on when the lights go dim...put on a little banjo music...whip up some crab cakes for dh and a MC for me, add a couple of mint juleps (the adult kind, I'm thinking) and happy birthday, dh :rotfl:

Ok, I'd never follow through on all that but it sounds fun. Not sure how to capture Eau de Pirate Ride, either.
