What's the Big Deal With Staying On Property Anyway? *Goodbyes* 12/17 p.114

Carissa, wow, how scary. So glad you all made it out of the area safely.

I have never eaten at a Cracker Barrel. Your dinner looked awesome. I don't think they are in the Northeast, not sure and I have not seen any out here in SoCal. Hmmm, may be a Southern Delight!! :thumbsup2

Kar, there are a couple in RI. I always go to the one in Coventry. they are in MA also.
I have never gotten anything besides breakfast at Cracker barrel. love it!! my mom always decorated our houses like that.:cloud9:

that weather was skeery!
are you guys staying on base when you move?

So, that means in just about 2 months we'll be moving! :scared1:
2 weeks from today for us. :woohoo: I hope it goes really fast.

Great update and pics and a scary one at that.

Glad you missed it. That truck was scary to see.

Ooh Pedro is next. :woohoo:

Yeah. Ahh the days of VHS. However, I have to admit, I am fan of HDMI cables...one cable for everything. Now you don't need a coax for the TV, audio inputs for sound and the VCR and the DVD....its all in one cable.

This is not geek talk, I understood every bit of it :thumbsup2.

I always heard ly/mi from Robin, aka delswife and her TR's and blog.

Off topic - Carrie, I posted a picture of you on my PTR, I hope that is ok LOL a little late now though isn't it?

Hey!! That's the same Cracker Barrel we visited on our road trip last year!! :yay:

The whole tornado experience must have felt very surreal... I'm so glad no one was hurt.

Kathy

Every time I go to a restaurant in Virginia I'm surprised to see that there is smoking allowed. I'm so use to Maine and Maryland being smokefree. Someone at CB did tell me that all of the new CBs have no smoking - regardless of the state laws.

No, we'll be living off base. There's a wait to get base housing and it's just too difficult to do the temporary housing thing with kids.

How exciting for you Scott! :goodvibes

I loves me some Pedro! :thumbsup2

Oh yeah - that's what they told me - that they got it from delswife. I'd forgotten. My bad.

Eeek! Pounding rains, tornadoes!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm gonna think that slooow server @ Cracker Barrel saved you all from a much closer encounter!
We drove in rain like that from HHI to northern VA this past February. TG no tornadoes! We were trying to beat the snow though :rotfl2:

Sometimes we eat at the Cracker Barrel in Derry because it makes us feel as if we're on the road, off to a great vacation! :rotfl: Thanks for the food porn!

Emporia is our overnight stay on the way to HHI--well when El Nebuloso isn't trying to drive straight thru! :headache:

Did the boys sleep at all or were they wide awake?

Jean

(I know the updates are coming out quickly at the moment, but I'm anxious to get us to WDW. Once we do, I'll slow down a little bit.)

Having narrowly escaped the tornado (by the way, my notes say we sat for 45 minutes waiting for the road to be cleared), we continued on our way to Santee, South Carolina. On our last three trips, we've always spent the night in this town. Once you find something good, you stick with it, right? ;) Actually, the first Cracker Barrel we ever ate at was in Santee!

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. First we needed to finish driving through North Carolina. And you know what that means, right? :confused3 Well, those of you who have driven down 95 or have at least read trip reports involving others who have know what I'm talking about.

It's the ever popular (and in your face!) Pedro and his South of the Border signs!

The signs really help to entertain me on the drive and this trip was no exception. I jotted down a few of my favorites to share with you (since I was having no luck taking pictures :sad2: ).

South of the Border - FREE! Air, Water, Advice

I am really curious to know what kind of advice Pedro is handing out. Parenting? Marriage?? Career choices??? :confused3

A little razzle, but a whole lotta dazzle!

And my favorite of the evening...

You're always a weiner at Pedro's.

Did Pedro really just call me a weiner?? :scared1:

Here's a bad picture I took of South of the Border as we drove past that night (it really is pretty to look at with all of the lights):

And this is what Owen and Connor were looking like about that time:

I don't understand how they can sleep tilted over on their sides like that. :confused3

We finally made it to our hotel (Hampton Inn) at 10:15 - ten hours after we left the house.

I took a quick picture before putting the boys to bed:

Connor looks a bit crazed in that picture (I think he was yawning.). :rotfl:

And Chuck modeling the flat screen TV:

They let us sleep five in the room and had provided a roll away bed. We just pushed the table out of the way and put the bed there.

Now on to Day 2! :cheer2:

~ March 28th, 2009 ~

I woke up at 5 a.m. but managed to stay in bed until 6 when I finally got up and showered. I got online (had tried the night before, but was having issues) and posted here on the Dis and PMd y'all for addresses.

We headed downstairs for our complimentary breakfast. :thumbsup2 This morning there were fried eggs, sausage, and all of the normal breakfast stuff. Connor had a couple of muffins on his plate along with a banana and at one point he looked down, looked back up at me and said, "It's staring at me." :dance3: I guess he meant his food was making a face. The men sitting next to us got a kick out it. :rotfl:

Then it was time to get the van loaded back up again. Stitch must have been tired from our excitement the day before and our late night because he immediately found a place to nap.

That's MY pillow he's sleeping on, by the way. I always have to bring my pillow along when I travel. I just wish on this trip I would have used a pillow case that I didn't care about losing. :rolleyes1

By 8 a.m. we had filled up the van with gas and we were on our way - to Disney World baby! :cool1:

Up Next - It Cost $1.00 to Pee??

Wow, South of the Border--haven't been there since Spring Break 198--ahem! Just to clarify, it wasn't the destinaton, just on the way to the beach. :lmao:

We are BYOP people, too.

I always wanted to go to South of the Border when I was a kid, and my parents would never stop!!! :sad2: One day I will get to meet Pedro!

You're getting closer to Disney!

We got our postcard yesterday....thanks! It's so cute. It took me a couple minutes to figure out that it opens up.

Phew! :rotfl: I did see signs that alluded to SOTB being a great place for a weekend getaway.

I'm the only one who brings my pillow - I have neck problems and don't sleep well if I have to do without my own.

You will be so disappointed Jackie! :lmao:

Glad you got it! :goodvibes I liked how it gave more space to write and folded over so it kept it private.

Is it not the kitschy wonderland of cheap Mexican souvenirs that I have built up in my mind? :rotfl2:

Honestly - I don't know! It was a ghost town when we were there last January and filled up the van with gas. We drove around and tried to get lunch at one place, but they wouldn't take credit cards. :confused3

I've said I'd like to see it during the summer when it must be busier, but others have said it's pretty much dead all of the time.

I love the Pedro digns and seeing South of the Border. When you see that you know that you are almost there!:thumbsup2

Holy smokems you're a fast TR writer! I'm going to try and keep up with you and just maybe I'll actually finish mine this time :rotfl:

You didn't stop at SOB??? :lmao:

I like seeing all those signs because it means you're gettting CLOSE!!! :yay:

I'm curious as to what happened with your pillow case popcorn::

Yay! Update! I'm super glad you got all through the scary weather OK and that you made it to your hotel by a good sleeping hour. :)

I just read all about South of the Border over on Blues TR, it looks awesome!

Also, is that the same stitch as she had? Or do lots of people take their own stitch along?

I wrote down at least one more sign on the way back home that I found amusing. They really do make me smile. :)

We stopped at SOTB on our last trip. No need to ever stop again! Didn't you guys stop on your way through??

You'll find out about the pillowcase eventually...

Yes, that is the same Stitch that Heidi had with her. After Heidi, he got sent to Kathy and took a trip with her family. And next he's off to California! I need to work on that this weekend.

Torsie ~ Thanks for reading :flower3: and please feel free to post next time :upsidedow

I like the little pictures boxes you have in your signature! Did you make them? :thumbsup2
