Blue Lagoon - Worth the money?

We always try and have one meal in the Disney parks, but so far have restricted ourselves to cheaper fast food options such as Toad Hall and Colonel Haiti's place.

We LOVE Pirates, so would like to eat in there. I noticed this menu on DLRPFoodGuide:

Treasures of the Sea Menu - €39,00

Choose one starter:


Butterflied smoked swordfish and tahitian-style marinated raw
sea bream

Creole crab cake served lukewarm with mango salad

Fish and seafood soup with garnish


Choose one main dish:


Grilled swordfish with coriander, mango salsa and flavoured rice

Flambéed ostrich steak with green peppers and plantain banana
chips

Roasted gambas with galanga butter, fried vegetables and fresh
herbs


Choose one dessert:


Chocolate lave cake with coffee chocolate-chip ice cream and
custard sauce

Flambeed roasted banana and rum baba
fondant

Blanc-manger coconut

Anyone had this? Is it worth the cash?

I know a lot of people highly recommend the Blue Lagoon but it we were utterly disappointed by it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The setting is lovely but our experience was very poor and slow service (although the restuarant was quiet), very poorly prepared, undercooked and lukewarm food. It wasn't worth half of what we paid for it. It's the only restaurant there we've had a bad experience in.

We went and had a really good experience here.... Food was gorgeous (The swordfish is AMAZING!), the setting unsurpassable, and the staff were really friendly.... I wrote a more detailed review here (Post #43)..... We'd certainly revisit!

I'm afraid the Blue Lagoon is like marmite, you're either in the love-it or hate-it brigade!!

I'm one of the love-its, we've been three times and had great food and service every time and I absolutely adore the setting.

You'll just have to take your chances and find out for yourself. I hope you're not disappointed.

I travel alone, but in the past couple of years, the restaurants has become some attractions that i have to do while im there.

Blue Lagoon is one of my favorites, very nice setting. The view of people going by in the Pirates attraction is fun and great. People often say bon appetite and makes fun of people eating while sailing by, very funny if you ask me!

I had a great steak there last time. I know its mostly a fish restaurant, but i dont like fish, so i get a steak while im there. Im usualy eating there 2 or 3 times within the 4-5 days im in DLRP.

Last time i was there, i managed to eat at: Blue Lagoon x 2, Silverspur Steakhouse x 2, Walts and Agabrah Restaurant and ofcause Annettes Diner at Disney Village.

Yeah i know, its costs some money, but i dont care because im a bigtime Disney nerd, and i need to have my yearly fix!

When we went in 2004 the service was incredibly slow but the surroundings amazing. The food was ok, i made the mistake of choosing a fixed menu when the options were not really my taste. However we are already planning to go in June and use the half board plus vouchers at face value so we can have what we want and pay the difference instead of choosing from the fixed menu which i might not normally eat.

Having eaten here 3 times (but not again) I think my best advice would be to stick to something simple, like steak perhaps, and beware strange taste combinations. Also request a table on 'the beach', and expect relaxing/slow service. Don't go here if you're in a hurry to get back to the park, just relax and enjoy the view.

I'm a "love it" too !

Have to say that when we were then in March the water at POTC was a bit stinky, usually it's got that lovely chlorine smell, but it smelt like old drains all weekend and I did say I wouldn't fancy eating my dinner there then.

Now you mention it, it did smell a bit when we were there last weekend too. Not dreadful, but a bit offputting. My son mentioned it, and you've just jogged my memory.

I don't believe its that menu above... There's another set menu (It's on the Blue Lagoon reviews thread I posted a link to in my earlier post somewhere.) that I think is the halfboard plus option. I'm sure someone else could confirm this for you!

We ate there last year and really enjoyed it. I would say the food is nice, but nothing to get too excited about. For us it was the setting. This is (for us) THE best themed restaurant in DLP. Our waiter was very friendly and we had a table by the water. Don't expect to be in and out in a hurry, but then again why rush when you have such wonderful surroundings?

I would imagine it would be the 29 Euro one, but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else can help you...

I think Bob is right - half board plus vouchers are worth 25 or 26 euros at face value, so a 29 euro set meal would be the one which is covered in full by a half board plus voucher.
