I just signed up to use DCL Cruiseline bus for pick up at MCO, and returning us to VWL post the 3 night cruise. Will we be sent luggage tags for the cruiseline? I see the website says no more than 2 bags per person....does this include a rolling cooler to take on at the port? Thanks for any help!! :goodvibes

We've not used a luggage tag on our rolling cooler as we carry (well, roll) it on - both the plane and the ship. The luggage tags are used for luggage that is checked with the airline and transported to the ship without you being involved with the handling. If you arrive late at MCO (as we do when flying in from the west coast) and stay overnight before the cruise, you leave the luggage tags off your cases until the morning of the cruise.

Thanks! Yes we are staying at the Hyatt-MCO the night before. So they will mail the luggage tags? We will have to check the rolling cooler on thru the airline (it will be filled with beer and water), but then we will roll it on the ship...so won't put the cruisline tags on that.

If you tell the hotel upon check-in that you are sailing on Disney, they will provide you with a set of directions from Disney about joining the ship in the morning. You may tag your luggage with the DCL tags and leave them outside your door in the morning and they'll next appear in your stateroom!

We nearly always stay at the Hyatt since our flight from the west coast arrives in the evening. It's just too convenient! Oh, and we mention to the bell captain in the morning that we've left our luggage for pick-up (and tip him). Entry to the upper floors of the hotel is limited to guests and staff only, so we feel safe leaving our luggage in the hallway.

We stayed at the Hyatt this past January and they now have you leave your luggage INSIDE your hotel room for pick up.

Thanks for posting this! I was wondering where I was to get the DCL luggage tags...so I can get them at the Hyatt-MCO!

You should get your DCL luggage tags in your cruise doc packet from DCL. They will have your cabin number and names printed on them. The Hyatt does not hand out a travel packet. They are referring to the travel packet with luggage tags you get in the mail from DCL. The Hyatt does hand out a letter at check in that tells you what to do the morning of the cruise.

We got a different letter from the Hyatt at check in....not sure when the posted letter from the Hyatt was from (the date on the bottom was 5/2005).

The DCL staff in the lobby of the Hyatt may have extra luggage tags.

Check out the link below....it is to my webshots album from January DCL cruise. The first 8 pic were taken at the Hyatt. Read the comments under some of the Hyatt pics as they explain the DCL bus checkin process.

Wow! Excellent picutures! Those are great shots of the hotel areas. This will be our first to stay at the Hyatt....looks wonderful. Ok, I didn't know I'll be getting a package mailed to my home with the DCL tags. So now I got the 411 on that! Thanks again for the pics!

You will get your luggage tags in the package you'll receive from DCL 2-4 weeks before cruising. If you fly in the day of the cruise and will be going directly from the plane to the DCL bus, you put them on before leaving your home airport. (This means that DCL will claim your luggage from the airline baggage check). If you are using any other method to get to the port( limo, rental car) you DO NOT put the tags on until you have claimed them at MCO and are getting into your transportation to the port.

If you fly in the night before and are using DCL transportation the next morning, DO NOT put the tags on until the next morning. The tags are for DCL to identify your bags and get them to the correct cabin on the ship.

no, the 2 bag rule is for checked bags not carry ons and carry ons don't count towards the 2 bag rule

MJ

Well that's not entirely true. My understanding is that if you carry a bag on to airplane, but then subsequently want Disney to handle the bag onto ship, it would count. However there's not really a way to do this, as they take luggage right from the airport and i'm not sure how you would get a carry-on into the system.

Bottom line is if you carry it onto plane you will be carrying it onto ship also, in which case it does not count as one of the 2 bags.

Alternately, if you were staying in a hotel the night before, or at a resort in a Land/Sea, and wanted your carryon transported onto ship, it would need a tag and would count as one of the 2 bags.

As far as bringing carryons from your WDW hotel to the ship, those you can literally carry on the bus (if it is not too large or else it will go under the bus) and you could take it off the bus (and/or get it from underneath) before you board the ship and they would still be your carryons.

Yes, if you wanted to "send" them via the luggage truck from WDW they would count as your 2 checked bags. But, in all honesty, DCL does not really track how many checked bags you have per person. You can easily get more luggage tags from the DCL staff at the resort and/or porters at the terminal if you need them. For an average family is not usual for EVERYONE in the family to have two checked bags (that would be a lot of luggage) so if one family member technically has 3 bags and one family member has one bag it all works out.

The reason I ask this is because for the airline: I am checking in a softsided rolling cooler filled with beer and water. This needs to be checked baggage as far as the airline is concerned-can't carry it on. We will be staying overnight at MCO- so, now I want to carry on the soft sided cooler with our liquids (no ice!) directly onto the ship at check-in. I would then substitute the airline carryon bag for the checked bag for DCL. The carryon bag is going to have clothes in it...it can go early with the rest of the checked airline baggage. But now I need to make the softsided cooler our carry on for the ship. So I will just put the DCL luggage tag onto the airline carry on bag, along with the other checked luggage. And now roll the sscooler onto the ship!! Hope that doesn't sound too confusing!:goodvibes
