Tinkerbell.... As a newbie to sushi... Where would you advise that I go to try some for the first time?

Tinkerbell.... As a newbie to sushi... Where would you advise that I go to try some for the first time?

I would say that Kona Island Sushi Bar at the Polynesian has very approchable sushi. They have several rolls that feature cooked items as opposed to raw.

Here are some of the offerings:

California Luau Roll - fresh jumbo lump crab, pineapple, and avocado $12.99

Kona Crab Cake Roll - fresh jumbo lump crab cake, avocado, and an Asian tartar sauce $10.99

Shrimp Tempura Roll - tempura shrimp, fresh mango served with lilikoi sauce $12.99

If you are feeling adventerous, my favorite roll at Kona is:

Volcano Roll - spicy tuna, shrimp salad, tempura crunch $13.99

But this roll does feature raw fish.

You could also try Tokyo Dining at Epcot. They have an extensive sushi menu and have many vegetarian or cooked options. There have a California Roll (crab, cucumber, avacado, tobiko [tiny caviar] and mayo), a Yam Tempura Roll (crispy tempura sweet potato), and Ebi nigiri, which is basically cooked shrimp atop a small rectangle of rice.

I find the best way to start out with sushi is to try things that are familiar. If you like crab, try a roll with crab. If you like shrimp, try the ebi nirigi. Raw fish is a mind over matter and a textural thing. Most people either love it or hate it but it is definitely worth trying :thumbsup2

However, there are things I want her to try! (Or if she doesn't...things I MUST have on vacation hehe)

- Dole whip!
- French Toast Loaf
- Popcorn from Main Street (it tastes better than anywhere on earth!)
- Make your own treat @ Goofy's
- Mickey Waffle
- School Bread (I've never tried this! :scared1: )
- Lapu Lapu
- Mickey Bar

FYI-
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just read from MickyNicki's trip report that the French Toast Loaf has been discontinued..:sad2:
I never even got to try it...

I know :( I only tried it once in Oct 2008 and I've been craving it ever since!

I'm sure it was discontinued because of guest feedback. :lmao:

sorry ... disney dining is on my short-list right now. ;)

That's ok, they are on mine too :headache: After waiting 3 hours on the phone to make 6 dining reservations which cost me $75 canadian I'm more than a little frustrated.

My bet would be that it was a labour intensive item and that they felt it "easier" to "retire" it

Did they ever respond to the email you sent them?

I'm totally confused by this new process they've put in place to make ADRs ... it's just like them to take something that worked well and was relatively easy to understand and make it twice as difficult and frustrating.

I've got a new slogan for Disney Dining: Making the Easy Difficult, and the Difficult Impossible!

:rotfl2:

All I've gotten so far was the usual "we have received your email" response :sad2: I am going to follow up and "gently" explain that I will email weekly until I get a response from them :rolleyes1

:lmao: Loving the slogan!

I just read about the cutest thing ever!

This past week a living character version of Remy from Ratatouille has started appearing at Chefs de France. Apparently he is on loan from DLP and will only be appearing until Sept 10th. This is all the more reason for Alice & I to have dinner at Chefs de France :goodvibes Can't wait to see Remy! Ratatouille is one of my favorite movies, it captures the essence of Paris so perfectly :cloud9:

I am absolutely loving your pictures, especially the latest dessert ones. Can't wait to read your actual reviews :)

Thank you for posting the DESSERTS pixs.
I was bumped since CG didn't have my "coffee" ice cream with the Vahrhona Chocolate cake during my 2 visits last year.

CG changes the pairing with the Valrhona chocolate cake quite often. I've seen Coffee, Orange, Cherry, Apricot Raspberry, Strawberry, and i think Peanut butter.

Thank you for sharing your fab pics! :worship: i don't even like Sushi but your pics makes it look fantastic!

Guess what!!! I will be checking into the Poly on the 24th Sept too! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I have never even been to the resort & am so looking forward to it!

Can't wait to read you reviews for your May trip. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2Awesome food pics! We will be staying at CSR right before you Sept 19-27, it's our first CSR trip & I can't wait.

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.
