Hi there,
We will be in Vegas on the last leg of our vacation to CA this summer. We will be there half day Sunday, Monday and Half day Tuesday.

Sunday is DH's birthday and would like to make a ressie at a family friendly restuarant, as we are traveling with our DD's 4 and 9 months.

Any suggestions?

RAINFOREST CAFÉ MGM Grand Hotel and Casino
CHEESEBURGER AT THE OASIS Planet Hollywood Hotel
SHERWOOD FOREST CAFÉ Excalibur Hotel
ROXY'S DINER Stratosphere Hotel

Cheesecake Factory/Forum Shops (they don't take ressies tho)
Planet Hollywood Restaurant/Forum Shops (not sure about ressies)
ESPN Restaurant/NYNY (not sure about ressies)
Burger Bar/Mandalay Place Mall (don't take ressies tho)
Border Grill/Mandalay Bay
Grand Lux Cafe/Venetian (no ressies but I've never waited more than 10 minutes)

As a general rule, restaurants associated with casinos are either overpriced, not family friendly, or both. You might be better off going to a "normal" restaurant. Most of the big chains have a branch in Vegas. If there is someplace your DH like, go to the Vegas branch.

any suggestion of places to eat off the strip? Is the food good at Roxy's? I read its a 50's theme .

Mexican - Lindo Michoacan - Desert Inn & Eastern or Flamingo & Grand Canyon (shrimp quesadillas - :cloud9:)
Italian - The Bootlegger, adjacent to the LV Outlet Center Mall (South Strip) (pizza - :dance3:)
Chinese - almost anywhere on Spring Mountain Rd west of the strip; try the Joyful House restaurant
Greek - Paymon's, Maryland Parkway & Flamingo or Sahara & Buffalo
Thai - Lotus of Siam, E Sahara in the Commercial Center
BBQ - Memphis Championship BBQ, Rainbow & Charleston
Prime Rib - Lawry's, E Flamingo & Paradise
Gourmet - Rosemary's, W Sahara at Cimmaron (great for couples )
Diner - Black Bear Diner, W. Tropicana & Jones

OMG, yes! Hash House A Go Go, on West Sahara! Seriously, one entree will feed your entire family.

jlima - what's that new "mall" that looks like a small town? We ate at a West Coast chain there, too, that was very good. If you know the name, or even better, the website, I can find the name of the restaurant. We sat in the 'sunporch' area, and there was a playground right outside the window.

With what I brought back to the hotel from those two meals, I didn't need to buy anything else to eat all week!

Note to everybody who thinks I'm nuts (okay, fine - note to everybody :teeth: ) "We" means one or more of my siblings and I, not jlima and I. She and I have never met.

Town Square? Did you eat at Claim Jumper? Or maybe The Yard House? Both are excellent.

Claim Jumper! Thank you!

Yes, it was very good, and there's a small playground right outside (part of Town Center, not the restaurant).

Hmm... maybe I'll skip Disney this year and just visit Las Vegas...

Please do! We need all the visitors we can get! Ask me anything & I'll try to help you with planning.

Aw, that's sweet of you!

I've had a reservation for free dining since last September... but now that Disney's offering the same dates to everyone - when I thought going at the end of September would mean lighter crowds - well... then I thought I'd go for my birthday, but my boss will be away then... and, really, given the economy... nope, it's looking more and more like one trip this year :)

For goodness' sake people. There's only one choice for this family:

IN N OUT BURGER. 2900 West Sahara. Less than five minutes off the strip!

:)

But I'll also say that the $200 we spent for the four of us to eat at the Bellagio Buffet was pretty much worth every penny! My girls are 9 and 11, and they thought it was pretty incredible (which they darn well better have!!).

DH and I enjoyed the Claimjumpers in Reno a while back. portions were definitely generous, but we had just gotten off a plane and were STARVING. the clerk at the car rental counter sent us there.

since you will have a car in vegas, listen to the locals! I only know the strip restaurants and most are not super kid friendly. although i do love the Burger Bar at Mandalay. DH was at a conference there and ate there several times. It was one of the few places within his perdiem. plus he loves great burgers and good beer.
