Vegas on a budget?

DH and i got married in Jan of this year(11years together). We didnt go on a honeymoon and are thinking of going to vegas on the 22nd, We will drive there. We dont really gamble. DD(10) will also be going with us.

We plan on doing free things and checking out the hotels. Hopefully we can see an inexpensive kid friendly magic show.

We plan on walking and taking the bus system up/down the strip. My main concern is finding good inexpensive food to eat. I keep hearing Ellis Island is good and cheap$$$ but I dont know if kids are allowed and cant find any info.

Please give me some tips where to eat budget friendly. 2A 1 C

Thanks

check out cheapovegas.com - they have info on all kinds of things - hotels, food, free things to do

for your daughter I suggest you check out the M&M world - multi-level store filled with all things m&M - just fun to browse through - it is near the MGM/NY NY end of the strip

We were married in Vegas and used to go annually for our anniversary - but in 2005 we "found" Disney and haven't been back to Vegas since. So some of my show info may be outdated but there was a great (kid friendly) ventroliquist act at the Rio (can' t remember price it was an afternoon show). Also Tropicana used to have mini shows in their casino with two or three performers above the casino floor - flying around/suspended.

The monorail is an inexpensive way to go from one end of the strip to another.

Another good website to check out is http://lasvegasadvisor.com
They have a top 10 list of budget things.

Be sure to check out the lion habitat at MGM and the conservatory in Bellagio.

Sign up for player's cards at the casinos. Some give you a "funbook" with coupons. Before you go, go to the websites of casinos you're interested in staying at and give them you're e-mail. There are really cheap rooms these days.

You're best bet for cheap food is downtown. You can find 2 for 1 tickets for shows in the entertainment flyers around town or there are discount ticket booths around town.

Have fun.

I'm going to move this to the California & West Forum. I think that you'll get a lot of help with what you're looking for.

BTW, congratulations on tying the knot!

One trick that the wife and I have done in the past to really get great deals. Some hotels offer a bunch of add-on's, like two free drinks, $15 in slot lay, free breakfast 1 day, free ride on their roller coaster, free show or 2 for 1 show, etc. Well, you only get one of these per stay. So, if you are savvy about it you can stay a night or two and move on to take advantage of the next offer. For instance, one time we stayed 7 days and bounced from NYNY Hotel and Casino, checked out and when to Excalibur for a couple of nights, and finished the trip at MGM .... all walking distance from one another and easy to drag the wheeled luggage to the next stop. Then at each spot we got the free show tickets or free slot play or whatever .... plus we got into their reservation systems and now they email us more promos and discounts all the time. If you are cheap enough it is easily done!

Thanks for the info. Bally's and Bills gambling saloon rooms deals are for
50.00- 60.00 per night. I'm trying to get something in the middle. My 1st choice would be treasure island but the other two are cheaper. Many say walking the strip is long but what do you think with a 10 yr old? We did wdw in Nov 9 nightseveryday at the parks and dd did ok. I was the one hurting-lol!
We will be in vegas Sunday and MOnday 22-24. Tues we will just eat breakfast and head home.

anyone do the bus system and how much$$$. We really dont want to drive down the strip and have to find parking, not sure if we will have to pay for parking each time

Just FYI - free parking at all the casino hotels.

Have a great time. I'm going in May and can't wait. I'll be brining DS9 and DD6.

You can do Excalibur for $30 bucks a night, with a March 22nd arrival

great price but we are trying to get closer to the center of the strip, since we plan on walking or using buses

Have a good time, but I would really plan out what exactly you are going to be walking too.

With a 10 year old, the south end of the strip is not horrible. You have

Luxor(tut exhibit, plus Chris Angel, and 3d films)
MGM(free lion habitat)
Tropicana(bodies exhibit)
Excalibur(midway and tournament of kings)
New York, New York(roller coaster)
Monte Carlo(lance Burton arguably the best magician in vegas)
also very close is a gameworks other shops in the area.

Again good luck but I would really plan out you desired destinations, you might find that center strip will equal more walking.

Thanks I've been so busy focusing on the TI, belligo fountains, circus circus, mirage volcano. I guess i better plan it out better

Fountains at the Bellagio

Caesar's Palace The ceiling is a sky, there are fountains and a fiery display.

The Volcano at the Mirage

Sirens of TI

Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand

Studio City at the MGM Grand Hotel
You can view pilots for upcoming shows here, and offer your opinions on what you see!

Conservatory at Bellagio

M&M's World

Hoover Dam (maybe)

From Excalibur the Circus-Circus, Mirage, TI and maybe even Ceasars might be a little too much of a walk if going both directions. If you were to take the Duece(buss) to TI, and walk south hitting those resorts that would cut out half of the walking.

The rest would require equal or less walking from the Excalibur.
This Map is not exactly to scale, but it gives you a general idea of how much walking might be required.

I enjoy walking and have walked the strip many times from one end to the other. For a rough estimate, each hotel is about 1/2 mile from the next one to give you an idea. Keep in mind that if you are walking, there will be guys on the sidewalks handing out cards for strip shows with pictures on them of scantily clad women and it's almost impossible to avoid them. Also, in the evenings, there will be some heavily intoxicated people out walking on the strip too. My last trip a few months ago I got to enjoy the men from of a wedding party puking all over their tuxedos as they walked from Caesars back to NY NY. The sidewalks are narrow, lots of construction in spots, and it's hard to walk abreast.

Also, I'd much rather stay at TI over Excalibur. Not necessarily for the location, but the hotel is nicer (although there is a lot more for children to do at Excalibur).

There are drunks in Vegas EVERY DAY, but most of us dont come out till well after dark.

Please dont be one of those parents that walks around the strip with their kid at 3am, and point at me while I crawl back to my room.

lol! hopefully we will be back in our rooms by 9-10pm
I told dh that I want to go someday without dd. I love mix drinks so maybe next-time i'll be out til 1-2am-lol!

We have riden the bus (Duece) several times and find that the 24 hour pass is a great tool. It costs $7 and can be bought on the bus upon entering. You just tell the driver that you want a 24 hour pass, you put in your $, and out spits a pass for you to use. We like to get one during an afternoon and still use it the next morning to go somewhere. HTH!
