Hello
Looking at options for end of jan to beginning of Feb for one week. We are a family of four children and two adults. It looks like a DVC rental might be the best way to go. Any thoughts on where and what to look at and what I might spend?

Just curious, how old will your kids be when you travel? AKV and BLT have 1 bedrooms that sleep 5 plus one child under age three. Otherwise, you'll need a two bedroom which is obviously more points than a one bedroom. Also, if your trip is in January, the points are less than February.

I think most points usually go for $10.00 per point.

As far as a points chart, I'm not sure where to tell you to find the 2010 points chart. I'm sure someone else will let you know.

I doubt you want to try to sqeeze 6 people into a 1 BR regardless of size. For a 2 BR you're looking at $2000-3000 for 7 nights depending on the resort and unit type. Maybe 70% of those prices for a 1 BR. You could cut the cost significantly by doing 5-6 nights dropping weekend nights. It is a good way to cut costs because the rack rate would be about double those numbers. However, there are some risks including the fact that most who rent make it non refundable to one degree or another.
