OK, so my DH & I like to do spur of the moment trips. So I called MS today & was able to get this Monday (3/2) thru Friday (3/6):dance3: :yay: I was also able to get the airfare for $79 pp each way out of JFK..(jetblue)...:woohoo:
Apparently, I had my choice of resorts & what type of room I wanted. I had requested either a 1 bdrm or a 2 bdrm. When I was told both was available I decided on the 2 bdrm, at which time I was asked do I want a lock off or a dedicated? So I took the dedicated since we are bringing our DD, DSIL & DGS. This was so exciting that the week we choice was available.....
But, it got me wondering all day. Why was there so much vacancy at the last minute?
Anybody wondering the same thing?

I'm sure some members have postponed vacations due to the economy, but unless he members are defaulting on the loans or dues, it really isn't hurting DVC. I wonder, though, if everyone is banking a lot of points if they'll need to limit of suspend banking at some point during this recession.

I think this is actually kind of a slow week. I decided to do a March visit a few weeks ago and gave them a couple of options. About mid-March it gets MUCH busier. I guess it's after the Presidents Day and before Spring Break time, not much traffic? Kind of like Early December USED TO BE LOL!

I think it's one reason Disney moved thier spring "endurance" race to this time period. (And it went from 10,000 runners to "sold out" at 7,500 LOL!)

We have been on a wait-list since December for a 2 bedroom for next month. You must have just picked a good time.

Also, once you are traveling within the week, the waitlists have been filled and suspended. I think the breakage inventory is available then too.

I don't see why they should or would suspend banking of points at all. If people can't afford or want to book a vacation either this year or next year on banked points- it'll eventually get expire anyway. So by suspending the banking- that's like forcing people to book vacation that they can't / want to go every year.
If I can't afford to go every year, then I'll go every other year and book a bigger room with banked points. Why limit us from banking.

I agree we went once in the begining of March and found the Parks very doable - I was also surprised that we got our 1st choice of BWV 2bdrm pref view and we booked only 2 weeks out.

If a very high percentage of points are banked, there is no reasonable way members could possibly use them the next year. It would, in effect, double the number of points available for use at a home resort at the 11 month window.

Banking and borrowing have tended to balance each other out, but if a high percentage of members cancel and bank, while far fewer may be borrowing for a trip this year, the point system is thrown out of balance.

oops.. forgot about the 11 month window issue. You're right. but then again, wouldn't that free up current year more which would give the non-bankers a better shot at getting what they want. Then the following year, they can bank theirs which they can use the following following year. Wait, you're right, this is outta wack...

I had never thought about trying to book very late and there being availability. So the first week of march is a pretty good time? Actually work-wise for me the first week of March would be a pretty good time, I'll try to save that in my memory bank. I was thinking that it'd be a busy spring break time.

Well I leave next week, so I am glad to hear this! I hope the parks are dead! Congrats OP, and enjoy your trip!

I had a 1br at SSR booked for Mar 6-11. About 2 weeks ago I had to make a change in those dates due to a work conflict (darn work). I had no problem changing to Mar 27-Apr 1 for the same room - a weekend no less.

We just booked last minute also.

Got a 1 bedroom @ SSR 5 days in advance, using the developer points.

69$ airfare from White Plains, Jet Blue.

2/28 - 3/4

Have fun.

If Easter is early then those dates may be more popular

Don't worry there are still some of us in a borrowing mode to balance things out! :thumbsup2

This is great news. Let us know when you get back how the weather was! We just went in February, but March would be nice too.

What a difference two weeks makes!

I've been calling twice a day every day for a month now trying to get an Epcot area studio for 3/15-3/20. No movement at all, for any of those dates. I also inquire about one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms. (We currently have five in a one-bedroom and are looking to spread out.) Nothing.

For us, the second villa must be at either BCV or BWV to make this work...so don't know about availability at the other resorts. But it's sure booked solid at the Epcot resorts...nothing available on cash, either--not thru DVC or CRO. (I did reserve a room at the Dolphin, and feel lucky to have gotten that--but sure would rather not have to spend that $1000 if I could get a villa on points instead!)

Wish my DS' spring break (college--this is a college kids' trip to celebrate DS' graduation) was a week or two earlier!

Reports from people coming back are the parks have been crowded. All the specials they are offering (4/3) must be drawing people in.

We were on the W-L for BCV studio for 20-22 March for a while, but it did come through for us. It sounds like we are going to have plenty of company... :)
