Which is cheaper Albertson's or Winn-Dixie?

We are renting a car and thinking of stopping at the Albertson's off 417. Does anyone know if their prices are better than Winn-Dixie's?

Go online and check their ads. Many of the stores in Fl only have good deals for people with their frequent shopper cards also check out Publix.

There is a Publix on John Young just off 417 and they are so much better than Albertsons. They have great produce, a great deli, and a great bakery. They also have a lot of buy one get one specials and sales.

Moving here from IL, I find Publix the best grocery stores ever.

If you are comparing prices, stay away from Publix. There is a Winn Dixie right on 535, maybe half a mile north of Hotel Plaza Blvd. It is new, clean, and they have good produce. We lived in Orlando until last year and FWIW, my kids think that Albertson's smells fishy. :confused3

We really like Publix. You don't need a shopper card, they help you take your groceries to the car and their bakery makes excellent birthday cakes!!!

I love their bakery. Plus we sometime stop and pick up subs and ready made soup. They make great subs.

Yes!:thumbsup2 My DMom, stayed in Ft. Myers Beach for awhile a few years ago, and we found their rotisserie chicken to be good too. That was our first experience with Publix.

I realize Publix is a better store, but we'll only be buying a few items. The only produce would be lettuce. So I'm looking for the cheapest store.

For just a few things then, go to the one that's most convenient for you. We've gotten a Winn Dixie and an Albertson's card just on the single trip that we ever made to either one. Good luck.

You are buying a head of lettuce and you are worried about the price difference? What will it be 10 cents?

OP isn't just buying lettuce -- that is the only produce that will be bought. And the Winn Dixie on 535 has a lot of good produce. If price is the question, why hassle the OP?

For those unfamiliar with Florida supermarkets, much of the appeal of Publix comes down to a few things:

- it has a premium feel and people enjoy shopping there
- it has a good selection of specialty items
- it has a great produce section, bakery and deli (I really like the sub shop)
- other personal preferences (location, etc.)

And Publix charges generally higher prices for their premium shopping experience (if you are familiar with Carolina supermarkets, it is somewhat like Harris Teeter). The point is, part of the appeal of Publix disappears once the goods are on your shelf or in your icebox. A box of Cheerios from Publix tastes exactly the same as Cheerios from another store, regardless of how much you paid.

The same is true for the majority of things that typical shoppers buy. It is even true when you compare much of the Publix produce to a good produce section at another store. Celery and carrots and cucumbers, etc., are going to be very similar. So if budget is an issue, why pay the generally higher prices of Publix?

And in this case, the WD on 535 is a nice store with good produce. I don't know if that is true of WD in general, but we have shopped at this store many times because of its proximity to the resorts and have always been satisfied. And when we were there last month, the bakery gave each of our kids a free chocolate chip cookie -- and they tasted great!

Is this thread for real?!

Ummm... step back and watch... You will see that this thread is for real. :goodvibes

My two cents... Just lettuce? No tomatoes? No cucumbers? No carrots? Never had a bad experience with a Publix. Never even heard of Albertson's. Winn Dixie... We've gone there in NC, but probably won't again. Might have been a unique situation.

Only if this gets hijacked and becomes a "what is your favorite supermarket" discussion. The OP wants to know about prices. Produce is not her main concern, and the basic produce at the Winn Dixie on 535 is good. For staples and the like, Winn Dixie is going to sell the same products as Publix (toilet paper, Coke, Cheerios, chips, salt and pepper, etc.) and the prices will generally be lower.

Sometimes threads just morph. Don't have to be hiijacked. pirate:

We shop the WD outside of DTD down the street from Goodings.

We do have their frequent shopper card but we find them to be very reasonable priced, the store is manageable size, bordering on small, and it is never crowded. We like to go late at night so we dont feel like we are wasting our days shopping. It is very close to WDW maybe 10 min from SSR.

We have a frequent shopper card for WD and generally shop at the one on 535. Its nice because I do a little shopping and order a couple of pizzas from Papa John's next door to take back to our DVC. The only down side was that the store was open late but the deli had closed early. We did stop at a Publix last year near the Mary Queen of the Universe Church to pick up some UO tickets and felt a little uncomfortable in the area. I like the convenience of WD to the WDW entrance on 535.
