Hold back rooms?

Given the state of the economy, I have read on other threads and boards that Disney is cutting back on their staffing in various areas of the company. Is it feasible that they would not release all the DVC rooms in their inventory to keep the number of guests down if they are cutting back on staff in those resorts?
I am not trying to start any rumors, just wondering....and hoping that is why I had such a hard time getting a 2BR anywhere this coming March.

It is possible that Disney will close some wings of resorts. Right after 09/11 when attendance was way down the entire POFQ resort was closed and refurbished.

I would think that goes against the whole points contract. Once units are sold they are part of the inventory and available for use. Disney may decide not to use some of their personal inventory(highly doubt it though). DVC is also some what diffrent from normal operations(I think):confused3 because our dues pay for a big chunck of operations. If they scaled back I better see a deduction in my dues. Anyway that is my basic understanding but I could be wrong. I am sure some else will post some more specific details with all the experts floating around the board.;) Glad somebody knows!!

They may hold back their cash inventory, what they rent through CRO but the owners pay for all the services with their MF so Disney isn't saving any money if they hold back DVC points inventory. I also don't think they can legally hold back declared villias. I could be wrong abou that but I don't thinkl they can. When did you try to book for March, there are many cheerleading and dance competitions as well as spring break for colleges throughout March.

Don't worry about Disney holding back rooms. Here is how it works - Disney puts out the promotion Rent 4 nights get 7 - - - now of course those are the moderates and below. They overbook and then upgrade to whatever resort is available with empty rooms. OKW has been at 90-100% occupancy for months. Not with DVC members or cash but with the upgrades! This, in my opinion, is bringing down the value of DVC and the enjoyment of our time there. We had a horrible experience with neighbors at OKW in October - and sure enough, they were an upgrade. How excited would you be if you booked All Stars and ended up at OKW, a very good deal if you can get it and getting it they are!! We ended up next to a one bedroom with seven people - five adults and two children - the noise was incredible, inside and out on the balcony. We reported it several times to the front desk and nothing was done. Finally, they moved us! As a DVC owner I am not happy to see our property being abused this way with overcrowding and total disregard by Disney!

Was Disney aware there were 7? Only the All Star family suites could possibily hold 7, and one would still need to be under 3yo and in the pack n play. I can't imagine Diney would upgrade a family suite to only a one bedroom. No other value or moderate room would be booked for 7 people by CRO. It sounds like these folks "snuck-in" some unregistered guests.

As far as "bringing down the value", once a room is turned over to CRO, it is theirs to do with as they please. The only way to stop it is to not allow DVC members to trade out from the DVC system into cruises or the Disney Collection.

If they snuck them in the front desk was aware - we made three calls and personal trips to the front desk. The last straw was at 5:30 in the morning - we went down to the front desk and - - - - nothing! They said there was nothing they could or would do about it. I thought that over and at about 10 am I went down and explained just what I thought they could do about it and at that time they changed our room. I was very, very disappointed at what we experienced - but we did!

That really is disappointing to hear. I've had more than 30 stays at OKW and only once had problems with noise, which was soon sorted out by a pleasant approach to the offenders by me (they really had no idea). I should be most upset if your situation happened to me. At 5.30 am they should have offered to move you later in the day at least.

Oops. I just reread the original post and realized the question is about DVC rooms. Even if the economy were to get so bad than some DVCers couldn't afford airfare, tickets, dining, etc. and had to let their points expire, I can't imagine it would ever require closing off parts of resorts. In those resorts that are shared with general room inventory (e.g. BWV, BCV, VWL, CR, AKV) I do think that there would be a decrease in shared service staffing like front desk or bell services.

WOW! You have every right to be very disappointed! I hope you call member satisfaction about this issue and write a good letter about it. This should NOT happen!
