February Magical Family Adventures!!~ LAST DAY!! (6/5)

Evenin Blue !! Great update of your arrival inthe WDW area !!! Can't wait to see the actual test drive or race whatever DH is doing next! My DSIL would LOVE to do that but when I told him the cost he said he'd settle for Indy Speedway and Tes Track!! He also wants to fish sooo I found where you can rent cane poles on site and that should satisfy him!!

Thanks rosie.
Your DSIL could do the ride along instead. It's much cheaper and he will get to go faster since it is their drivers driving.

Great Start:thumbsup2

Love Earl of Sandwhich. Bummer your DS sandwhich was not too good

Glad he understood about Light Saber and agreed to come back after your DH race

Can't wait to see those race pics :drive:
I was pleasantly surprised with EoS. :goodvibes
Yeah, ds was pretty good about it. Plus he was excited to see daddy drive a race car. :rotfl:

:cool1: :cool1: Great Start! :cool1: :cool1:

I skip EofS, we have one here in Vegas. Sorry it wasn't that great. Cute little squirrel. I fed them when I stayed at POR in 2007. Couldn't resist. :rotfl:
Thank you!
Oh wow I didn't realize EoS was a chain. The Caribbean Jerk chicken was really good.
:rotfl: I agree about the squirrel. It's hard to resist them.

Great update! I know the feeling about driving past the sign. It's just a big tease!
It is a HUGE tease!! He was trying to figure out where he wanted to go so in the mean time he passed the gate 2 times!! On the 3rd I finally just said my piece! :rotfl2: He was driving me crazy.

I'm glad to hear we weren't the only ones who had a hard time with the stinkin' light sabers! :rotfl: And remember - we had to make 3 of them!
Those light sabres are very hard!! I can't believe you had to do that 3 times. :lmao now that I know exactly how confusing it is, I feel for you even more!

I would have been the same way about driving past the sign -- it's like a tractor beam pulling me in the minute I see it (yes, I did just wave my Star Wars geek flag with that comment  ).
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: you're too funny!
He drove me nutso passing that darn sign!

Night Blue !!!
nite rosie

Aww, hey girl!!

I can't wait to hear how everything went!!!
Hey there!
Hopefully I will have an update tonight.

Yeah... We stopped there in 2007 and My son HATED the cheese sandwich... I ate it for him (hey, waste not...)!

But, I remember that it was not nearly as good as the other sandwiches we had (I had the Jerk Chicken... amazing!)

The cheese was yucky. I should have given some of that one to the squirrel. :rotfl2:
I loved that Jerk Chicken!!

When I left off we were leaving DTD and heading over to the Richard Petty race track. We arrived at the tunnel and checked in at the guard shack.

Once inside we got DH checked in. We were a little early so we just looked around a bit. There were lots of pictures on the walls of celebrities who have done the driving experience. Here are a few that I got pictures of....

They then separated everyone into small groups each having an instructor. The learning process begins. Does DH look happy or what??

I don't have the video uploaded. I'm hoping to do that this weekend. I will have to add it when I get it done. Also, DH took his plaque with him to work so I don't have a picture of it right now. It is very nice, though. Holds 2 pictures of him....1 standing next to the car, and one right before he takes off. It was around $69 extra for the plaque.

DH drove 8 laps and the way it works is that you follow the instructor in a separate car. You must stay within 3 car lengths for them to speed up. They will only let you do what you can handle. If you stay closer than 3 car lengths then they will speed up in the next lap. DH's final 3 laps he had a top speed of 122 mph. Not too shabby for only 8 laps!!

During DH's learning session they took all the kids & a few parents around the track in a van for 3 laps. It was the craziest ride in a van I've ever taken! I took video the entire time and will also upload that this weekend. I am still baffled at how the van did not flip over. DS wasn't even scared. This guy seriously showed us no mercy. I had one hand in a death grip on ds and one hand trying to hold the video camera. One lady only held onto herself and her son ended up between the 2 front seats at one point. :scared1: It was insane!

DH and DS after the driving experience...

All in all I think it was money well spent. DH had such a good time and it was a good experience for him. We all had a good time and it was amazing how young I felt cheering for him from the stands. It was great. :thumbsup2

Great review Blue !!!!

Great update!! I am so glad DH liked the experience!!

I love Back to the future. One of my all time fave's!
Here's something funny..... about 2 summer's ago our air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I called the A/C people and they sent a man over to check it out. DH was at work and I don't let strange men in the house by myself so I got my mom to come over. The a/c man goes outside to look at that portion of the a/c and comes back in with this part. He said our "capacitor" was out and we needed a new one. He showed it to me and it had 3 prongs on it shaped in a "Y". I said "oh!! what do you know, it was the flux capacitor!!" The man just looked at me like I was crazy. I figured aww what the heck he already thinks I'm nuts why not finish it off. So, then I said..."you know, because that's what makes time travel possible" My mother thought it was hilarious. I thought I was going to have to pick her up off of the floor. The man just continued to think I was crazy and gave me my bill. :rotfl2:

Back to the Future!! :rotfl2: One of my fav's!

Do you know how fast you were going in the van? I have a friend who has done the ride along experience at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
(3 laps at 175 MPH), he said it feels like your in a fishbowl!

So, do you think he'll want to do it again on your next trip?

We were going 55mph in the van. It felt much faster. I guess because it was a van. :rotfl: This guy is an extremely good driver. It was rough but great. :thumbsup2

He would love to do it again but said he'd let me take a turn if I wanted. Oh I also forgot to say that they gave a discount to anyone wanting to do the ride along who was there with someone doing an experience. I could have done it but then there would have been no one to watch ds. Next time maybe.....but really I'd rather drive. :thumbsup2

How awesome was that. I bet my husband would love it. The van ride sounds like a cab ride we had in Mexico.:rotfl2:

:rotfl2: sounds like a crazy cab ride!!

I just tried to post on your thread and somehow it deleted when i pushed the button. I hate that! Basically I was trying to say that I'm praying for all of you and I hope Grace gets better. Also congrats for courtney!!! Awesome job! Hope you guys have fun on your trip. Stay safe!!

Van ride...definitely crazy.

Evening Blue !!!! Or are you busy travelling thru space in your "FLUX" ship!!!:rotfl2:

Hi Rosie!! :rotfl2:

I'm hoping to have an update tonight but I'm not sure. Some things have happened and I'm trying to tend to all of that over the weekend and get ready for school on Wednesday. (we have a mardi gras break on mon & tues)

I am having major problems with DS's teacher. On Wednesday she screamed at me in front of all the kids plus other teachers in the cafeteria. This is not the first time she's done this. Actually it is the 3rd. I have complained on her before about this but obviously nothing is being done. She minds her "p's" and "q's" for about a week, doesn't talk to me much, and then she starts letting me back in to help again after a couple of weeks. Each time I think..."ok it's over, let's move on, everything is good".

This is also the principal's last year as she is retiring. So...i'm sure you can figure out that she is not wanting to make big waves on her way out. I don't understand why this keeps happening especially since I am up there helping/volunteering pretty much every single day. I've worked with the class helping out the teacher too many times to count. I've helped the other pre-k teachers and i'm involved in other school activities.

This time she yelled at me because I told her I was concerned that DS was getting hit or kicked at least 3-4 times a month. She set up a class policy in the beginning that if someone hits, pushes, or kicks you that you are not to do it back but to tell a teacher. We talked to DS about this and he has been doing it the way she wants. The problem is that many of the other kids are not. They have figured out that DS will not hit back and only go tell. I told her I was concerned that he was turning into their punching bag. She then totally flipped her lid on me and started screaming about how from now on EVERYONE involved in ANYTHING is going to "yellow". (they have a calendar that is sent home every day with a stamp on it....green=good day, yellow=something happened that needs your attention, red= conference needed)

I tried to explain to her that that was not what I meant and if DS does something then by all means give him a yellow face. But that i was concerned that not everyone who has been hitting is getting the yellow. She starts screaming at me again and saying that everyone will go to yellow from now on....meaning if my son gets hit, he will also go to yellow because he is "involved". (yes, I am aware this makes NO SENSE) She also starts yelling at me saying that "you are always trying to get to the bottom of something!!!" WHOA!!!....ok, this is where I know I am dealing with a "crazy". I scooped up ds and left the cafeteria. My face said I was extremely mad, and DS was crying because he was scared of the teacher screaming at his mommy. The other kids were terrified. The other teachers were staring at me while I walked out. Now when I go to school the other teachers who usually love me, won't make eye contact with me.....including the kindergarten teachers. I am upset that she has gone and "justified" herself to all the teachers and that it is going to cause a problem for DS and myself next year. I have worked so hard to help out and to develop a good relationship with all of these teachers & aides. Now I feel that it is all being taken away.

I'm sorry for ranting about this here. I just really needed to get it out. It's got me down right now because like I said before.....I'm always there to help out and somehow anytime I express a concern to her she takes it as I'm "questioning her authority" or at least that's the vibe I'm getting from all the yelling.

When I complained to the principal on Thursday I just got a bunch of mumbo-jumbo again. She even went as far to say that maybe I should not come up to the school anymore. WHAT?????:scared1: I politely told her that she is not going to keep me from enjoying DS's pre-k experience, especially since I have done nothing wrong and also because these things are open to ALL parents and also because I am paying $450 a month for my kid to go to school there. I am quickly learning that private school is NOTHING like public school. This teacher would no longer be employed at a public school. Yet she is getting nothing done to her here and I am being told that maybe I shouldn't go to the school anymore??? AM I IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE????

I'm trying desperately to fix this situation. There is only 3 months left of school. Then we will be out of her class AND there will be a new principal. We don't want to switch schools. We looked long and hard at all the schools in our area and toured them twice. This is our pick and I'm confident that he will come out of it in the end with a good education. I'm not sure what else to do really. I have an appointment with an attorney on monday. mostly just to point me in the right direction and help me get organized. I'm not planning on suing the school or any nonsense like that. My plan on Wednesday is to talk to the principal again and ask for a conference with her and the teacher simply so that I can tell the teacher the one thing that I keep wanting/needing to say to her every time this happens but I end up walking away first just to make her stop yelling. I want to tell her that I understand the stress that she is under probably better than anyone else because I'm up there helping all the time. I want to tell her that when I talk to her about my son, I am not "questioning her authority" but that i see something that's not quite right and I'm asking for help with the situation.

To all the mom's out there.....anyone who has experience with anything even close to similar to this. What are your thoughts? Do you think the conference is the right thing to do or do you think that I've complained enough and nothing has been done and now it's time to take it to the top office with my complaints?

Again, sorry for this but thanks for any light you can shed on the situation as I am new to all of this.

I promise to have an update to my TR up either tonight or tomorrow.

As a teacher and a mom, I am shocked and dismayed that a teacher/human being would treat anyone like that!!! There is no excuse for it and even less excuse for her to do that in front of children!!! Sounds like she is crazy and completely out of line. Like you said, if that happened in a public school the teacher would have some grave ramifications.

Question: since DS's school is a private school, is there a board of directors that you could go to to voice your concerns/complaints? I can't imagine that they would stand for that sort of thing and have the fear of losing a student (whose parents pay for him to go there) even though you don't want to leave (they don't have to know that ;) ).

I am sorry that you are having to deal with all of this!

Wow Cherie! This really is a tough one only because its a private school and pre-k. First off, I know most prob won't agree with me. But I always told Nova if you get hit, knock the kid on his/her butt. She will never be in trouble with us as long as she does not hit first. That's the old school in me.

I think you made the right decision in getting some advice. Try not to stress, like you said its only a couple of more months. How about switching his class for the remaining months?
