I've searched and searched for months on end trying to find decent airfare so we wouldn't have to drive to Fl. from here in WV. I just logged on to SW and found awesome rates!!! $78 down and $98 back!! I HAD to book it immediately!! I knew we probably wouldn't get any cheaper rates for Easter week!!

Anyway, the return flight leaves MCO at 11:15 A.M. and now I'm freaking out. If we get off the ship as soon as we're allowed, will it be feasible to make this flight??????

I could be done but you are cutting it way to close especially for Easter week :scared1: :scared1: I would not chance it:thumbsup2

We have done it - you need to have a car pick you up and head straight to the airport. We had the car there at 0830 - and we were off at 9 - at the airport at 10. If you encounter the lines - which you probably will do - you'll just have to be nice to the TSA reps - and tell them your situation.....

Gosh, that is cutting it waaaaaaaay too close for comfort. You could make it, maybe. But, what if there is an accident? What if you sit in traffic for 45 minutes? What if something happens to the car, and they have to send someone to come get you guys?

I wouldn't chance it, but that is just me. Good luck!

There are so many potential and real scenarios that could occur that make that way too high of a risk. Honestly I believe the risk/reward factor is heaving on the risk side.

Some of these have been mentioned, but here are reasons that's just too close:
  • Delay in clearing customs
  • cannot locate all your luggage (we've had a situation of someone else taking our luggage)
  • traffic delays from cruise terminal to airport, including weather-related delays
  • reliability of mode of transportation
  • vehicle problems
  • long TSA lines

For me, there is just WAY too much stress to deal with if you're pushing the clock like that. Futhermore, as Mickeyhugger stated, being it's a holiday/spring break week, whew! BUSY BUSY BUSY the roads and airport will be. :) I know you're freaking out now, but I assure you you will be freaking out the morning of your flight to hope all the stars align for you.

Good luck on your decision!

O.k., so if airfare comes down on 4/18 on a later flight, can I adjust the reservations? Would SW allow that? Later flights on that day are still outrageous!!

It's doable.... if everything goes right. It is cutting it too close for comfort, IMO. But on our first cruise we had a limo take us right there and got to MCO at 9:30am! (then stayed at Hyatt until 5pm flight)
But our 2nd cruise they had a delay getting us off the ship and I'm not sure even if we'd had a car waiting for us if we'd have made it in time to clear security/etc. for that flight- especially on a holiday weekend. That would sure scare me...

I've never missed a flight- so what happens if you miss it? Will you be able to wait for standby for another flight or does it just cost a fortune to book another flight? Maybe you can call "anonymously" (LOL) and ask those questions?

Yes, it is very easy to change your flights on Southwest's site - go to "View or Change Your Flight" with your confirmation# to make any changes. I have done it several times & have never been charged any additional fees for making changes (just the difference in fare if changing to a higher price flight) - you won't get any $ back if you switch to a lower priced fare, but you will have a credit to use towards a future purchase.

if the ship clears customs in a "normal" fashion, You can have breakfast early, and be off the ship before 8, Grab your bags, get through immigration and be in your car by 8:15 and to the airport by 9/9:15 depending upon how fast your driver drives (assuming you are using a towncar service - and if they have the "Toll FastPass" so you don't have to stop at the toll booths to pay.
