DS is severly allergic to nuts. We carry and epi pen for him. We are scheduled to leave on our first Disney cruise in 2 weeks and I am extremely nervous about the buffets and kids club. So I am wondering if anyone can share their experiences of cruising with a child with food allergies.
Thanks

You will need to fax the medical form to DCL if you haven't done so already.

I don't have any experiences on the cruises but I know that WDW does take great care at the parks and resorts for anyone with food allergy. You should call DCL and ask them what you need to do, usually they will send a chef to your table everynight and tell you what you DS can and can't have on the menu or buffet for that day/night. But you should call DCL just to make sure they also do this on the cruise. Hope this helps.

All food for a person with allergies is prepared in a separate kitchen area in the main dining rooms. At the buffets, believe you can speak to the chef and they will walk you through what is okay to eat or bring specially prepared food.

I don't have personal experience but on our last cruise (1/17/09 - Magic) the family at the table next to use (they weren't table mates, but were close enough to be and we wished they were!!) had a DD who was allergice to nuts, eggs, and milk...talk about scary! :scared1: and she could just breathe it and have the reaction.

All the servers were fantastic with her, especially the Head Server, who would bring her anything she wanted. They prepared it seperately in another kitchen (as PP stated) and would go up to Plutos and get her chips, hot dogs, etc. They would find fresh veggies that were not cooked (she didn't like cooked ones) like carrots, etc and always had fresh fruit for her. She has a HUGE smorgoshboard of food! :goodvibes - it was good to see.

The same family had a piece of luggage lost, it happed to be the one with all her soy milk in it (since she was allergic to milk) and they found soy milk for her and had it available to her 24 hours a day. They found the luggage and had it flown to St. Maarten (our first stop).

The little girl was so sweet (no more than 3 YO) and would come over and take our picture with a pretend camera she had. I was scared she would breath in something from our plates!! But her DM watched carefully and all was perfect.

Hope that helps, just want I noticed, but again no personal experience.

I am allergic to nuts (but only pecans, walnuts, hickory nuts, etc., NOT peanuts or almonds) - I just happened to 'mention' this to our server last September and he wouldn't let me order ANYTHING, even coconut and anything with peanuts....he didn't understand the allergy - personally, I was sorry I mentioned it because I LOVE coconut and missed out on some of the desserts (I LOVE desserts)....no big deal - just went to the dessert buffets and ate my coconut!

They are VERY cautious with allergies - have no fear.

I just got off the magic yesterday and wanted to share something with you about the kids clubs and allergies... there is absolutely NO food or drink of any kind even allowed in to the kids club rooms, NONE.. I couldnt even walk in there with a soda or bottle of water. Every child is given a squirt of soap in his/her hand and brought to the bathroom to wash hands before joining in. This is every single time they check in to the club. There is a water bubbler in there. When they take the kids to lunch or dinners in the restarurants or dining rooms or even on Castaway, the allergy child is served first after each and every counselor goes over their chart of food allergy kids. It is checked on over and over, once that child has his food, then everyone else gets fed and they are soo good about keeping hands and food away from everyone. It's very very organized and the crew is great! YOu should have no worries except that your child won't want to leave the kids club. Mine is still crying today........ Have fun

Hello,

We are planning our first Disney Cruise for October of 2010. I would love to hear from you once you get back to see how things went. My son is allergic to peanuts and eggs. I have a friend of a friend who went a couple of years ago who's son had multiple food allerigies (wheat/soy/peanuts/eggs) and she said it was amazing.
