Yes, we planned the entire trip around where we would eat. Problem? Complete! 3/11!!

Can't wait to read more......

I've got more coming soon!!

Enjoying your reviews and pictures! :goodvibes

I've found, and heard the same from others, that Disney wait staff often does that disappearing act around dessert time, both before and after. Not so bad when lingering over coffee, but if lingering over the last dregs of a Diet Coke and have already been in the restaurant a couple of hours, one tends to wonder where they disappeared to!

That's a great photo of your parents listening to the band, so nice they were playing a favorite song of your mother's at that time.

You have a great user name and avatar too....Figment and Dreamfinder are favorites of mine! Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

Thanks for the compliments :goodvibes She was a happy camper when they played that song!! We only really had this problem at Citricos. We like to linger a bit, so usually it's not a big deal and I've found that most of the time the waiters can tell when you're ready. Idk what happened here!

Enjoying your reviews. Can't wait to read more!

Thanks!

OMG, I absolutely love your take of vacationing in WDW. A big high 5.:yay:

Right back at ya! :yay:

Really enjoying your reviews so far. I love citricos and that lemon cheesecake is so pretty!
Looking forward to more.

Thank you! I think it's the same one they serve at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It looked very similar.

Oh WOW, you've got me really excited about Citrico's! We've been to Narcoossee's and enjoyed it but we weren't really wowed by it.

We like Narcoosee's, but for the price, we find it hard to justify it. Citricos is better in my book. But you're more likely to get a view of the fireworks at Narcoossee's. Then again, I say that if you really want to see the fireworks, don't plan dinner during it ;) But that's just me :snooty:

AAWWW, I really like the picture of what I assume are your parents. So cute.

I made a quick trip to the little girls room and when I came out they looked like that. I stealthy took a snapshot because sometimes they're sickeningly cute. They'll be celebrating 25 years in September.

Ok...now on with the show!!:wizard:

Another first for the trip was to try the Magic Kingdom Bakery. I had been itching to try the French Toast Loaf since I had seen it on here. I love French Toast. I almost went in at Christmastime just to pick it up and then enjoy it the next day at breakfast. (My parents now live an hour away, we were just up for the day...) But unfortunately that plan didn't work. So, I needed to try it this time. So I persuaded my parents that I needed to try it by sending them links to people's pictures of the French Toast Loaf here on the DisBoards. But I was clever. I made sure that the links I sent had no mention of the wait at the Bakery. :rotfl:

So the plan for Saturday? Wake up "early" (we'd really be up anyway) and be at the Magic Kingdom for opening! After all these years of coming, we'd never managed to see the opening show for the Magic Kingdom either! So I used that to my advantage. :woohoo: A plan was formed: Get to the park a little before 9 and as everyone was heading to the rides...we get food!! :yay:

So since I don't have many pictures of food this morning, here's some bonus pictures of the opening shows. Confession: I always thought it was kind of silly when people said they got tears in their eyes or cried. I totally got tears in my eyes. It's official. I'm a nut.

It was so much fun!! I can't believe all these years we missed it! pixiedust:

So onward we headed towards breakfast. Perfect timing. When we got there, only a few people were in front of us. Totally do-able!! :woohoo: Now, my Dad's not a big sweets person unless it's 11pm at night ;) so he opted against the French Toast Loaf...go figure.

But my Mom and I each got one of these:
DisneyTrip09_79.jpg

YUM! Oh it was as every bit as delicious as I thought it would be! You can see my Dad's breakfast sandwich there in the background, he enjoyed that as well. No joke though: within 15 minutes every table was being used and the line was out the door. Mom says, "Gee, I guess this place is popular." :rolleyes1 We saw there were a few tables that had the Cinnamon Buns. They were huge!! My French Toast Loaf kept me perfectly full, I couldn't imagine eating one of those. Then again, I'm not really a Cinnamon Bun kind of person. My Mom almost got one until she saw the size

Best plan ever was to get there for opening and then eat breakfast right away. When we hit the rides, the lines were still short enough that we walked on almost everything. Such a perfect day. Not to mention when we walked out of the Bakery we were greeted by this:
DisneyTrip09_83.jpg

Oh what a magical Disney Day it was! :wizard:

That looks like a great morning. We too have not seen opening ceremonies. Now I need to try. My son is a french toast fanatic. I think we might have to stand in that line one morning.

I loved the picture of your parents. I want to be just like them one day with my husband. How sweet.

We plan our entire trip around food also. It must be a Rochester thing. My wife was drooling over the mini corn dogs. Great review and I love the link to each review on the first page!:worship: :worship:

Hi
Great reviews!! It looks like you had so much fun!! I'd love to try the french toast loaf. I had one of the cinnamon buns and they are delicious!!

I love your reviews! Your day at MK seems like it was perfect, and the french toast loaf looks so yummy!! Thank you!

Oh you'll just love the opening! It was really something wonderful. I can't believe we've missed it all these years!! Try to get there about 10 minutes before 9 and you'll be good!!

Haha, yep. Must be a Rochester thing. ::yes::

Just don't try to eat a cinnamon bun and a french toast loaf in one sitting! They'll have to roll you down Main Street! :lmao:

It was yummy :goodvibes

Love everything so far!! That french toast loaf looks delish!!

Thanks! It was!

After we spent a nice morning bopping around the MK (a perk of getting there at opening?? Ridiculously short lines!) We headed over to the Animal Kingdom. And yes, it was mainly because we wanted to try this counter service but we did want to ride Expedition Everest.

Alright, so I completely forgot to take pictures here. But I did remember to take a picture of the sign. So how about we start with that??

DisneyTrip09_109.jpg

As the sign said, it certainly was tasty food. However, like Casey's, the line moved soooo slooooow. Don't know what was goin' on here. Also, it was about 2pm by the time we decided to eat again and all the tables were full, my Mom and I attacked a poor family as they were standing up to grab their table. I then went back to help my Dad with the food. We still weren't overly hungry and were actually thinking about just grabbing pretzels (well, that was my Dad's suggestion...the man has a few loves when it comes to food: Bogle Merlot, Cheesecake, and Pretzels. No joke.) But instead we decided to check this place out (as planned!!) and decided to just grab some sides. My Mom went over while I was looking for a table (that line moved a little quicker apparently) and grabbed a frozen coke. And then we got 2 orders of egg rolls and 1 order of fried rice. Here's a note: each order of egg rolls comes with 2 nicely sized egg rolls. Pretty decent deal. And as the sign said, it was tasty food :thumbsup2 I'd love to come back here when I was actually hungry for more food and give some of the other options on the menu a try. The only drawbacks for me were the lack of seating, I mean, it was there, but at 2pm at a non-peak weekend, it shouldn't have been that busy, know what I mean?? Oh, and those stupid cardboard straws?? I hate them. I loathe them.

Oh, and I would have loved to try a Bonzai Blast. It looked like the bar at Yak & Yeti (the sit down restaurant) could put drinks in plastic cups. We walked in and checked. But I wasn't in the mood for booze. I know...I know. Ok?

ETA: SnwflkCts also ate at the Yak & Yeti CS (actually about the same time frame we were down!) She remembered to take pictures! Her & her husband also had the fried rice and egg rolls, so if you take a peak at her report here...SnwflkCts: My 1st dining review 2/9 to 2/13 you can see the generous portions and the tasty goodness!!

And here's some bonus pictures!! Enjoy!!

So...the other reason we went to the Animal Kingdom?? It closed early and allowed us ample time to head over to City Walk to go to Margaritaville! (I told you we planned this vacation around where we would eat!!!)

First, some background. My parents brought me up a proper Parrotthead. We used to listen to his music during dinner and after dinner I would dance around in our family room to his songs. Of course they'd skip songs like "Why Don't We Get Drunk." Because ya know, they're not awful parents!! :lmao: And last summer when I was up at 3am I bought tickets to his show out in Chicago. $100 tickets. That would then require a $200 plane ride. That's one expensive whim!! Luckily I have friends in the area I could stay with :rotfl: And of course...when I couldn't find any takers for my last ticket, my Mom flew up from Florida to go. It was totally worth it. So I? Am totally the people my parents warned me about ;) So we made a pilgrimage...

DisneyTrip09_146.jpg

DisneyTrip09_145.jpg

One of the most distressing things in my life (really, I'm very blessed.) Is that I get migraines. One of my triggers is a regular, good 'ol fashioned lime margarita. So when I have them, I need to get flavored ones. My favorite are raspberry. It's ridiculously hard to find a good raspberry margarita on the rocks with salt (not sugar) on the rim. Of course, Margaritaville made me one ::yes:: And it was heaven :lovestruc

We've been to this particular Margaritaville several times. We love them. While my parents have been to others, I've only been to Cheeseburger in Paradises' :guilty: So I'm always thrilled to come back to Margaritaville. Our server here? Not the best. Both my Mom & I were left with empty drinks, had to ask him 3 times for water. Actually, we wound up getting water from the lady who brought our food (the guy and gal who brought our food were much better :thumbsup2 ) But of course, we were there to be at Margaritaville, so we didn't let our waiter bother us...and I noticed my Dad filled out a comment card. We enjoyed the Buffett music...though seriously, they need to not play other people's music. But maybe I'm a bit biased. :snooty:

So onto the food!! You want a good burger in Orlando? Come here. YUM! I got the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. (Notice the big kosher pickle!?)
DisneyTrip09_150.jpg

By the way: I refuse to use a flash in a restaurant unless I'm taking a picture of everyone at the table, so I apologize about the quality of some of these!

My Mom got the Cheeseburger in Paradise (of course!) We both substituted fries for onion rings. Which of course isn't the way Jimmy sings it, but sometimes you just have to find your own way. My Dad had the Hickory Burger. I think I was the only one who had any food on their plate at the end!! I just couldn't eat another bite!! It was delicious. We do love it in here. The atmosphere is great. They have people on stilts doing balloons for kids and then when the volcano blows, they lead everyone in Margaritaville. So much fun.

Here's the menu. If you click on it, it'll take you to their actual menu. I really love this place!!! :thumbsup2

So glad you posted this! We're spending 4 days on site at Universal and are checking out the restaurants now!:thumbsup2

Great! I'm glad it helped.

Though, to be honest, I don't think we've ever eaten at any of the other restaurants!!! :rotfl:

My younger brother goes to school at the University of Tampa (he's abroad right now, which is why he's not mentioned...) I know he & his friends head over to Bubba Gump Shrimp (or whatever it's called) to celebrate birthdays.

And if it helps, we made the reservation at Margaritaville that morning around 10 or so, while in line for Pooh! Their number is 407-224-2155. It's different than the main dining number.

Finnegan's
and one night of bar hopping/appetizer snacking....that's where Margaritaville will be on our list!:thumbsup2

See, we plan around food too!

Oh, and we checked in early for our reservation. They told us they had three bars at Margaritaville. That doesn't include the outside ones. So I'm sure you'll find a spot ;)

Enjoy popcorn::

Fun reviews! We always have a blast at Margaritaville over at CityWalk ... and I love love love their Last Mango in Paris - I could drink those all day long - and probably have!

Somehow I knew you'd be on board with the Jimmy Buffett break :thumbsup2 If I could handle my booze better (i.e. didn't get a terrible migraine if I mix it!) I would love to sit down and try all their drinks. I have a cocktail "recipe book" that I bought from their gift store one year that's all Buffett inspired drinks. Maybe I should pop over to your Community Board thread and post a few recipes. Some are awfully tasty :goodvibes

Also: SnwflkCts has pictures of the fried rice and egg rolls from Yak & Yeti CS. I added a link to her report in that section, but for those of you who want to see but don't care to search back, here it is! http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30311485&postcount=26

I am determined to eat at the Yak and Yeti counter service next week. I could eat Asian food all week. Thanks for the link to see the food and the menu.

Hee Hee ... I was reading your review, reading about Citricos which DH and I would like to check out and thought I would get your thoughts on Y&Y Counter Service. I was planning to post when I saw the link to my review as you had asked for -- then I recognized the name. Thanks for linking to mine. And you had the same thoughts as I did -- what a lack of seating!!!!

Your picture of EE is just beautiful! Thanks for the great reviews and I will check back in for other reviews.

I told DH about the Bakery in Main Street but it was too crowded when we went there. We had better luck in Epcot at Norway -- no one was in front of us there - that place is hidden! And wasn't the weather just wonderful last week!!! And this morning we had snow flurries here in No Va!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring 'em on over whenever you have time! I usually update all the links once a week ... there's some great food porn over there and some really good recipes! :goodvibes

Awesome reviews and looking forward to more!! Thank you for sharing! The picture of your parents is priceless!!
I LOVE the french toast loaf!! It's great!!
