Dinner Attire & Table Mates

Has anyone gone to "formal" night and found that their table mates were dressed up more than your family? Was that awkward? We're doing 4 nights on the Wonder again soon and my DH hates to wear anyting but jeans. He feels as though jeans and a dress shirt is good enough and I can't convince him otherwise. (DDs and myself always wear skirts, nice capris w/ sweater sets etc) On our first cruise we sat with a family who didn't really get overly dressed so it was always comfortable. I suppose we could always inquire ahead of time as to formal night. I don't know. What do you all think?

I never had table mates and have always been on 7 day cruises but I know formal night on a 7 day cruise jeans are not to be worn. Maybe you can find him a comfy pair of khaki's? We love to dress up and do so every night, it's part of the experience to me!

Although I love jeans I would never wear them to diner especially formal night

On our HAL cruise we sat with three other couples, one of which wore jeans and t-shirts to dinner every night. On formal night they wore jeans and a button down shirt. We and another couple dressed fairly formal to semi-formal every night because that's what we like to do. Did their attire bother us? Not in the least. In fact dinner was the highlight of the cruise. Our table closed down the dining room every night.

I expect Disney to be far more casual than HAL, so let him wear what he wants and enjoy yourselves. After 14 happy yrs. with my DH i 've learned the clothing battle isn't worth the fight.

I was on a 4-night cruise, and on the Dress up night, I wore slacks, a sport coat, and a button-up shirt with no tie. I think I was more dressed up than my tablemates were! I had 3 others, a couple who had recently been married, the husband had slacks, dress shirt and tie, and the others had dresses.

Just pack some Khakis and a button down shirt for him. On the four night cruises they do not have a formal night, so you won't see people in tuxedos.

Our last cruise our tablemates were "dressier" than we were. They were more like tux and formal gown- we were like fancier (not sunday church type) dress with DH in black dress pants, black dress shoes, white shirt/tie. Anyway they were dressier/more formal than us and it didn't bother us a bit. It didn't bother them either. They enjoyed dressing up more- we dressed as formal as possible for us. (DH's jacket is mucho humongous on him now and I wasn't going to buy one or rent a tux for ONE night. I had to buy new clothes that fit me for every night and did the best I could on formal night without spending an arm and a leg on something I'd only wear that one night. I don't intend to be that size on future cruises- I'm already not that size anymore LOL)

I guess it depends on who your tablemates are- I guess some get all involved with what others are wearing and others just dress like they want and don't let how others are dressed bother them. We weren't way underdressed though- just not quite as formal as they were. (we were all dressed more in line with one another the rest of the nights though) I think we might have felt a little weird if we'd been in jeans though..... just my personal opinion. Dh didn't wear jeans the entire time- he wore khakis and polos the other nights. That's just ME though- and we're not dress up type people either. that's internal- I don't care one iota what others are wearing- makes no difference to ME.

(ps. 4nt on wonder is different- they don't even have formal Night I don't think- they have 'dressy" night or something like that so you'll probalby see far less ppl dressed in tuxes and long formal dresses and such)

People all dress differently. Four nights is definitely less dressy. We bring a pair of khakis for my dh and ds for the cruises and they just change shirts every night. Most people are neatly dressed. Of course if you have holes in your jeans, men with bare arms, pit hairs, tank tops and flip flops, people are going to stare.

The same thing happened to us on our last DCL cruise. It really didn't bother us at all. We still had a lot of fun with them no matter what.

when we cruise last year, our server on the first night told us, "you do not have to dress any special way on any special night! if you want to dress up, that is fine, if you don't, that is fine too! disney's new policy is just to be happy you are here" (well - that is basically what she said)

our table mates didnt choose to dress up - and nobody seemed to care!

The only two times we had tablemates, everyone at our table was dressed appropriately on Formal and Semi-formal nights. The men and boy (DS) in tuxes and the ladies and a little girl in formal dresses. The little girl's dress was a Cinderella dress....so adorable!

On all our 7-night cruises most people were dressed formally on formal night. But the last 4-night we were on last June, they were toned down although many were dressed up on "dress-up" night. I remember when the 4-nights had Semi-formal night and I think on our last cruise the ones who did dress more formally were repeat cruisers from those days...like us.

I really like seeing everyone dressed formally on formal night...hanging out in the Atrium with a drink in hand...reminiscent of traditional cruising.

On my 3 night cruise, for the optional dress-up night I wore jeans and a polo shirt. I thought I would be laughed at (if you go by some of the posts on other threads). Funny thing was our table-mate wore shorts and a button down shirt. Nope, no awkward feelings and the food was great! Most of the people I saw were not dressed up at all - by that I mean there were very few in suits or shirts/ties.
