I am looking to use my FIRST pin code for the FD in August. However, I am also looking to book a Christmas trip. What is the best way to book the Aug. trip and convert ONE person's (mine) pass into an AP?

thanks, in advance, for any help!

It doesn't matter how you book the trip. Just take whatever ticket you have, use it once (to make sure you get the highest credit for it), go to Guest Relations within 14 days and upgrade it.

That's what I did - I had a 7 day base ticket that I bought from UT before the price increase, so it was worth a lot less than the current gate price. I used it at MK and went immediately to Guest Services. They credited me for the cost of the current gate price and I upgraded without difficulty. (I also bought the Tables in Wonderland card, which saved us a lot of money on dining - no DP.)

We book packages sometimes and use the ticket towards our APs. We always get a one day base ticket. (do not use it) When it's time to renew our APs we take it to guest relations and they scan the card and take the value of the ticket and apply it to our APs. A one day ticket is worth $79. When our trip is over I take the KTTW card with the one day ticket on it and write on it with a sharpie so I know what's on it and not to throw it away. This has worked in the past. We are up in the air about the FD package as we are ALL AP holders and will have to buy the one day passes and put them away.

I just want to point out that when you do not use a ticket, you only get what Disney sold the ticket for credited to your upgrade. That means if you (general you) purchase your ticket through a discount broker you won't even get what you paid for it. If, however, you use the ticket first, you are credited whatever your ticket's current gate value is. Even a "used up" ticket is upgradeable for 14 days after first use.

OP--When doing an upgrade when on any dining plan, it is always a good idea to ask that your tickets are on a separate admission media from your KTTW card. Hotel concierge (located near the front desk) can do that for you. Guest Relations has on many occasions, temporarily erased dining credits, which only a resort may put back on for you. It's just better to maybe skip the accidental inconvenience. Of course, you dining credits will be on another member of your rooms card, so you might not have to worry about that.

I'm not sure if I am reading this right.....we are thinking of going for the dining package we already have tickets from previous trips so was thinking of purchashing just the one day base ticket for now. Does that mean we don't have to use it now and maybe put towards a trip next time??...do we have to upgrade before we leave??

Yes, but if you have a ONE DAY ticket and you use it, then there is nothing left to apply to the upgrade. We only get one day base tickets when buying packages because we are always holding an AP. We find in the past that when holding a one day base and you apply it later to your renewal, they do give us the current value of a one day ticket ($79). This works for us, but I can't comment on a multiday pass as we don't buy those.

Yes, I am talking about one-day tickets. It's one policy no matter what the ticket is for. A ticket doesn't have to have "anything left on it" to be upgradeable. If you have a 5-day ticket, and use it and then upgrade it, you are given credit for a 5-day ticket not a 4-day ticket. Credit is given on what the ticket was purchased as, not what is left on it. Any ticket--even one-day tickets--are upgradeable for 14 days after first use. That means you can use your one-day ticket and upgrade it two days later, as long as you didn't throw it out.

Think about it. You are going to Disney for 7 nights, 8 days. You only buy a 5-day ticket, thinking you'd take a few days off to go to Downtown Disney and/or hang out at the resort. You decide you want to hit the parks more after you used the ticket. Are you more likely to want to pay the $3 to add a day or $75 + tax to go again. Disney figures you're not likely to spend that $75+. They'll gain more money from you at the parks than at your resort, especially if you stayed offsite. Same goes for one-day tickets. Maybe you are just in town visiting family and think you'll head over to Disney for a day since you've never been. Once you get there, you learn what Disney is and decide to visit 3-4 days. Ticket is upgradeable.

If you've been given full gate value, either your package was bought during the current ticket pricing or you've gotten very, very lucky. It will not typically happen. To get current gate value you either must purchase at full gate value or use your ticket.

No, you don't need to use it until you need it. Tickets will never expire until 14 days after first use. You may upgrade it at any time. It is smartest to upgrade it when you need it, after you use it (gaining a discount if prices increase).

We are AP holders and do it all the time--multi-day tickets bought highly discounted, one-day tickets purchased with a fantastic package deal.

Thank you....so am I right in thinking that if we were to purchase a one day base ticket with a package this year and don't use it we can use that ticket to upgrade to a new ticket on a new trip??...

Yes.

what if you buy a package, and hold onto the one day ticket for when your AP comes up for renewal...do you use the one day ticket to enter the park on the day you are going toGuest services to renew? or do you go in using your annual pass? Obviously I would want current value on the one day ticket being used towards renewal? How have you done this in the past?

Use your one-day ticket and then go renew your AP.

Thank you for sharing this info here, i am looking for some answers like this, it really helps.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

I booked the 4/3 deal for August. I bought 7 day base tickets (for the price of 4) for my family. So when I get to Disney I can take that to guest relations & upgrade to an AP (with the 7 day tickets value)?:confused3

Exactly. Just be sure to use the ticket in the turnstile FIRST. Don't go to Guest Relations outside whichever park; go to Guest Relations INSIDE the park, and you'll get full credit as if you had just bought a 7 day base ticket at the gate with no discount.
