Alcohol and Disney

Hi,

A few quick questions.

We are new to Disney, and we would like to know if it is true that Disney allows us to bring alcohol onboard...? If so, can we put it in water bottles in our checked luggage and/or carry-on (do we have the choice, and if they check it and see it, will they take it)?

Also, a friend of mine who might be coming has a 19 year old son. They know that their son cannot purchase alcohol or drink onboard, but if they allow him to, can he bring a water bottle of alcohol. What happens if HE puts this in his checked luggage? Since they allow it, if they see it in checked luggage, will they be ok with it since when looking at luggage, they don't know how old he is/isn't?

Disney does allow you to bring alcohol onboard. However, do not let the 19 year old bring any alcohol onboard. Since the port areas are international ports and since you will be boarding an international vessel, that could fall under the category of a federal offense, as it would when trying to bring alcohol into the country. Yes, they may not find out, but you would get into an extreme amount of trouble if they did. Also, DCL does not allow underage drinking onboard per company policy. Enjoy your cruise.

Disney does allow you to BYOB. I would not suggest packing it in your checked baggage, in the event it breaks and ruins perhaps your clothing and may spread to other bags. The luggage is tossed around quite heavily.

We bring a rolling cooler on with us (no ice, this is not allowed) and in it is our drinks, water, etc. They will open it and not remove anything, as it is allowed.

As for the 19 year old, why don't the parents just bring it on in perhaps the rolling cooler, or a hand held cooler. You don't have to hide it in water bottles, you can bring the actual bottle.

The only thing is if you bring wine to the dinner room, they can (and usually do) charge a 15$ opening/uncorking fee.

However, be aware that any fragile items (including bottled alcohol) must be hand-carried on board in a day bag and/or carry-on bag, the dimensions of which cannot exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep. I haven't sailed DCL yet, but on the cruises I have been on, they have never allowed guests to drink alcohol bought in port on board the ship. They will tag it, take it and return it to you at the end of the cruise.
The same goes for any alcohol that you may buy in the ships stores.

Yes, officially they are not supposed to allow you to keep it. It does happen that people don't always declare it, and bring it straight to their rooms.

Yes you are able to carry it on in any port and drink it onboard.

The only alcohol you can not drink or have in your cabin is what you buy in their duty free shop onboard.

Just got back from my 1st disney cruise and I bought a liter of rum in St. Thomas and brought it back onto the ship. They did not ask if I bought alcohol, but my bag did go through the scanner so they must have seen it in my bag. My understanding prior to the cruise was that you can bring it onboard, but anything opened must stay on ship and you can not take it off when you disembark. However, my friend took a half drank bottle of rum back off with her without a problem. We took a collapsible rolling cooler with 72 cans of beer in it when we got on in Port Canaveral, it went through the scanner, they gave us our bag and said "have a good day". Gotta love DCL!!!

We were on the Jan 17th Eastern cruise and had no problems bringing alchohol onboard both in Port Canaveral or when we were at port in St. Thomas. I even carried a couple of cans of beer with me to the pool one day and when at the pool was asked if I needed a bucket of ice to keep them cool...Talk about service..

All Alcohol has to be hand carried on by a guest 21 or over. Disney's policy is to only serve guests 21 and over. If someone under 21 has some, enjoy.

We brought a case of Bud Light and a bottle of rum back on the boat from Nassau. Keep in mind, a case of Bud Light cans was $45.00. Still cheaper than buying it on board.

Sorry your screen name didn't say where you are from. Is a 19 year old [where you are from] allowed to drink alcohol? Or are the parents under the wrong assumption that teenagers are allowed to drink in international waters?? I know on our last non disney cruise MANY parents were VERY concerned with this issue, which really isn't an issue at all since it is illegal under the age of 21. NOT FLAMING..just curious.

OK....this is the deal with bringing any beverage onboard. IT MUST BE IN YOUR CARRY ON LUGGAGE according to DCL. DCL really does not mind you bringing your own booze onboard but they want it in the carry on luggage NOT CHECKED LUGGAGED. You can do the same with soda and water.

DCL also allows you bring whatever booze you want back onboard with you from ports to consume in your cabin or anywhere else for that matter but they will charge you a corking fee if a bottle is brought into the dining room. Anything you buy to bring on must go through the scanner and they know if you have booze or not. It is allowed.

The only booze you can't bring back to your cabin or consume onboard is booze purchased in the duty free shop onboard. When you purchase booze at UpBeat on the Magic (not sure what it is called on the Wonder) DCL will hold it for you and then box it up and deliver it to your cabin the last night.

Technically you are not supposed to bring opened bottles off the ship (heard from various CM's) but DCL does not really know if you are or not...but if you get caught I don't know what, if any the penalty is.

Tell your friends not to pack any booze in their kids luggage...not a smart idea. He will not be able to drink anywhere onboard legally.

Now, if they allow him to drink in any of the ports (except CC) that is their business as he will be legal in those ports. Drinking age in all ports (except CC) is 18. My kids would have have a drink or two while in different ports and it was fine with me as they were legal in those countries. I did know where they were at all times, though.

YOU HAVE MORE CHANCE OF BOOZE BEING CONFISCATED IF IT IS NOT IN ITS ORIGINAL BOTTLE. I think they would have an issue with any liquid not in its original bottle for security reasons.....and I am not talking about cosmetics/beauty products as many people transfer their stuff to travel sized bottles. I am talking about booze in water bottles...not a good idea and no reason to.

DCL lets you bring the original bottle with you onboard as long as it is in your carryon bags, you are not bringing ice onboard in any container and your carryons fit through the x-ray scanner.
