Yup....just ordered a kit with apparently everything in it. Never done it and will be growing them in tubs....does anyone else grow their own stuff???

We have grown potatoes before - in the ground, in compost bags and in buckets :)

They are very easy.

We found that compost bags are the most productive. Just plant your seed potatoes in a little compost at the bottom of the bag and then as the potato plant grows you just keep covering it with more compost.

When they say earthing up occasionaly? Does that mean just loosening the soil.

I only grow strawberries. But my Grandad in the summer has a fantastic collection of veg--pots,cabbage,sweede,turnip,runner beans, toms,q,onions :thumbsup2 .Good luck Emily with it.x.

No, it means covering the plant with compost/soil. This encourages more roots to grow and as the potatoes grow on the roots you get a bigger crop :)

It also keeps the growing potatoes away from sunlight - if they aren't in the dark they turn green.

Yes,my grandad uses a hoe+does this around the pots-pulling/loosening the earth up around them.,but you also need to keep them covered to stop light getting to them-hope you know what i mean.x.

Thanks for all the advice....does anyone know any sites which tell you when to plant stuff? I like to try strawberries and tomatoes in baskets and maybe carrots.

My cousin & her boyfriend built a little veggie patch last year & managed to get several different types of veg such as carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, brocolli

My dad grew some lovely vegetables last year. This year he is intending to grow more and try his hand at some herbs as well.

Good Lucjk Em:thumbsup2

We're hoping to build a veg plot this year so the girls can have a go and maybe encourage them to try different veg.

They both for some lovely "real" garden tools from Santa so they can't wait to try them out.

Good luck with your potaotes - keep us posted!

When we started growing our own stuff it really encouraged the kids to eat veg. We now grow carrots, turnip, scallions(spring onions). leeks, tomatoes, peas, cabbage, beetroot, pak choi, lettuces and sprouts usually.
We don't have a big plot so we grow smaller varieties so we can get more in the area.

We have grown veg in tubs & buckets which is great but they will need extra watering because they dry out very quick.
Beetroot as also another good veg to grow in planter . :thumbsup2
Have fun trying different things :)
