Where to even begin???

We are wanting to plan a trip to Disneyworld but have no clue on where to begin.... we are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids(10 &9) and are wanting to go in May... We have never been to WDW and have no clue on how to go about planning any of this... Please help!

It depends on what you want to do. But I would say at least a week if you can. There is so much to see and do but never enough time!

Hi there - I'm really new to the boards, so I hope it's okay to jump into a conversation. A while back Pete and the gang recommended a book titled "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neal. I found it to be really helpful with planning. Hope your trip goes well. You certainly have come to the right place to ask. It's so exciting to be among so many Disney lovers!

Planning your first trip...how exciting!!

We always go for a week when we are there. So far we have never left Disney. Are you flying or driving down? We always fly so we book the Magical Express. No need for a rental car this way.

Another really good book is Birnuam Guides Walt Disney World for kids. It is full of great information and alot of it is rated by kids. There is also a section for autographs which my kids (10 and 7) loved doing.

how many days should we spend at WDW??????

for first trip i would recommend to allow 2-days at each park. the first day in each park will seem overwhelming, two days will allow you to slow the pace down and really get a good feel for the parks.

study up on the offering and attractions at each park and try to see each parks signature night show (wishes, fantasmic, illuminations, AK doesn't have a night show but the festival of the lion king is good)

put some effort into having a game plan for the first trip but don't be too rigid, you'll get an idea once you're there what direction really interests you.

I'm also in the midst of planning our first trip, so I understand how overwhelming it can be! But you have come to THE best site to learn everything there is to know about Disney World! I have learned everything I know from these boards, and even though I haven't been to Disney yet, I feel confident about our trip, just from all of the research and "studying" I've done on these board!

This is a really good idea. Take your time. It's important to remember that you won't be able to see or do it all in your first trip even though you'll really want to. Research on the sites and in the books will help you find what attractions/shows are best for your family at this point in time, so you can have a great time without exhausting yourself. As a mom, I know you're busy. Don't forget there are Disney specialist travel agents who can help with some of the big decisions if you need them.

Same here, we used that book everytime we are planning a trip to WDW. It's very useful to us and can also works for all here.
