downgrading room

I have a cruise planned for 11/1/2009 for 4 nights. We have 2 category 9 rooms. I was thinking about downgrading them to 12s to try to save some money. Do you think this would save me a decent amount or should I leave it alone. If I change the room category will I have to pay the current price like a complete rebooking or would I get the cat 12 price for the time I booked? Also can you get connecting rooms in cat 12, since our second room is for kids. Thanks for any help you can offer, we're really needing to cut back some money wise and I figured this would be a painless way to do it. But if I have to pay the current price for the 12 it may be more than what I paid when I booked for a 9.

If you downgrade or upgrade you pay the current price for the rooms. Sorry. It won't hurt to call and ask to see what the cost would be. The lowest category you can get connecting rooms in is a 10.

Cat. 12 cabins only sleep 3, so no drop down bunk. YOu can put in a request to have cat. 12 gty's be close to each other, but there is no guarantee from DCL that they will be near each other when assigned.



You can play around on DCL's site to see what kind of prices you can get for your sailing dates in the different categories. Also, you don't say how many people you are booking 2 cabins for. If only booking for 4 people, I would just book 1 cabin rather than 2 cabins.

There are only 13 cat 12 rooms, all on deck 2 forward. So I really don't think proximity is a big deal if you both stay in category 12. But if Disney finds they have sold out of the lower categories and have a lot of availability in higher categories there is always the possibility one or both rooms will be upgraded.

However, if you change your reservation you pay whatever the current rate is - and you said the current rate is more than you paid for cat 10 - so you are better off sticking with your current reservation at this time.

If you do find a price drop and rebook, ask Disney to put the two rooms as close together as possible. If, a month or less before you set sail, you find one or both rooms have been upgraded and are not close to one another, call Disney and ask if they can make changes to put the two rooms closer together.

I have never dealt with this, but it sounds like Disney will try to be accommodating.

If you downgrade your room, you pay the current price for whatever category you downgrade to . Cat 12s only sleep 3. They do not have the drop down bunk. SO...if you book a cat 12 for 4 people, you will get at least a cat 11.

Cat 12s are not sold on all cruises--I booked one this week for 2010 that isn't selling cat 12. Also, they might not be available on a "coming up soon" cruise because they are sold out. If you book a gty rate, they do not have to put you near each other--you could be on different decks, opposite ends of the ship, etc. If you link your reservations, it might help. I have read the with linked ressies, if they upgrade one they will upgrade both.

All you can do is call to see what the various prices would be an if it would work out for you.

I tried pricing it on disneys site yesterday and it looks like it would save $1160 even with booking at current prices. That's a lot so I'm considering it even if it means dh and I sleep in seperate rooms. I'm booked through DU so I left them an email and am waiting to hear from them. Thanks.

Depending on how you feel about things, you and DH do not have to SLEEP in separate rooms, you only have to BOOK in separate rooms. Are you comfortable with your 16 year old sharing a room with the 6 year old? Looking at the age range, you may need to sleep in separate rooms....but it is quite common for a family with 2 teens to book one parent in each cabin but have the kids sleep together. They will even issue you a "mom key" so mom can get into the kid's cabin.

Well we did it. Might not be very romantic but hey it's better than having to cancel. I don't really feel comfortable with the kids sleeping in their own cabin so looks like dh and I will just have to deal.
