HI, this will be our first trip to Universal - going for 3 nights late August - staying at the HRH - me, husband and two boys 7 & 9 then.

Any good suggestions? any character meals? good places to eat at the parks or citywalk?

thanx

what type of food do you and the family like?

any price range restrictions?

check out the dining section for the parks and city walk on the website.

http://www.universalorlando.com/

it will list the different types of foods that are offered.

pretty open to types of food - within reason of course being we have two kids - would love to do 1 character meal for the kids and perhaps atleast 1 more nice/fun place - price wise i'd say within reason for 4 people perhaps sitdown dinner under 100.00!

Our favorite is Mythos in Islands of Adventure. In late August the parks are not open late and Mythos will probably be closing at 3:00 so plan a lunch there.

Some of the resorts have scheduled character dining, you'll have to check with the resorts closer to your trip. Most of those are Scooby Doo and gang, and I think they have a few with the Simpsons.

There is also a character breakfast at Confisco Grille every day at the front of Islands of Adventure. It's a breakfast buffet with great muffins, cereal, eggs, grits, pancakes, cinnamon French toast, fruit, bacon and sausage, and a few other things. They have the BEST Spiderman ever there, plus the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2. Spiderman knows everything about "himself" from both the comic books and the movies, and his mannerisms are perfect. He even has the voice from the cartoon they had a long time ago. The Seuss characters when we've been there the past two years have been very funny and know how to interact differently with different age kids and adults.

Which reminds me, I need to get going on my TR....

As for other meals, there's really wide variety of food and environment available. Take a look at the website and get a few ideas of what you might be interested in. Most of them have a kid's menu, and everyone here can answer any more specific questions. You might also want to look at the food pictures here. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1031541

For your really nice meal, you may want to consider lunch at Mythos. It has great food, a kid's menu, and a really wonderful atmosphere. Or if you want it at the end of your trip as a last happy memory before you finish packing, The Kitchen at HRH has really wonderful food, too. The hotel restaurants generally have higher prices on food, but the ones we've eaten at have been GREAT. Heck, most of the restaurants on City Walk have great food, and for really reasonable prices, too! And there's something available for every taste and mood.

Hope that helps!

My favs are:

IOA - Thunder Falls Terrace

Studios - Louie's

I've never had a bad meal anywhere except Richter's but I have eaten there since that trip and it was fine.

Also...don't miss Margaritaville at CityWalk! It's a great place to eat and it's fun for the whole family!

We ar a family of 4 and we always had some good sitdown meals at Nascar grille , margarittaville and the most expensive The HardRock Cafe and don't remeber spending $100.00 and if I am not mistaking the most we spent was $89.00

i go along with Metro and Ky07. i second everything they said.

my favorite in park meals are at Louie's, IFFF, Thunder Falls at IOA, Boulangerie for sandwiches, and Blondies for made to order deli sandwichs.

go to universalorlando.com and click on the parks.
then go to the right side for dining.

you will get a full explanation of the food at each place.

for city walk, i never miss going to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch.

i haven't gone over $15 for myself for food there at lunch time.
i don't get any alcohol, maybe that is why.

Another Mythos fan here. It is a great sit down with reasonable prices. I love their risotto of the day! Yummy!!! I think the most expensive item on the menu is $15.95 so a family of 4 should be able to get out under $100.

McCraven's recommendations for Louie's at US, Thunder Falls at IOA, Boulangerie for sandwiches, and Blondies for made to order deli sandwichs is also good advice.

On CW, Hard Rcok was a must do but the family has grown tired of it. Currently, Margaritaville seems to be our favorite on CW.

can any say..........volcano nachos...........

sorry i didn't list mythos.
i assume it is a given.
everyone loves that place and for good reason too!

Another vote for Mytho's..When we all go,A family of four,we never went over $75.That includes me having A couple of cold ones and tip!!
The food, well what can I say.It will be the best meal you ever had at A theme park or some of the good rest you have ate at!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
