SPR Upgrades?

Does anyone know if it is possible that a SPR could get upgraded, but only to an 8 or 9, which are essentially the same room as a SPR 10?

I would be really bummed if we got upgraded, but only to a 9, and got stuck on the 1st deck or something.

I had a SPR on the 2007 transAtlantic (coming back from Europe) and found out when I got to the port that I had been upgraded to a cat 8 two doors down with no obstruction. That was terrific, but I understand what you mean about getting a cat 9 instead. Hopefully DCL understand the value of the location of the SPRs and would not switch anyone to decks 1 or 2 . . .:confused3

I had a SPR in December. Several people from our cruise meet received upgrades. I was actually glad we did not for the same concern you mentioned. Our room was great as well as the location. I think I would have been disappointed if DCL upgraded us and moved us to deck 1 or 2. An upgrade to a veranda room would be a different story.:)

DCL seems to be well aware of how people work hard to get those rooms and why they want them. I haven't heard of anyone until this thread who had been upgraded from a SPH. You could always call and have them notate on your resie that you do not want to be upgraded.

i often wonder why they do not upgrade spr so they can then upgrade the other 10s and 11s to the spr and give them a treat as well. i hear lots about people getting great upgrades and am wondering why they would not do this. maybe to much work?? :confused3
i have one coming up and could not think of anything better than to get a upgrade to a 8, 7 or, Big Wishes, a 6........pixiedust:

A room on Deck 2 would be better than the SPR, the views are unobstructed and you have a full sized porthole. The deck 2 rooms are probably my favorite rooms on the ship.

Lisa, the SPR I had was one of the connecting ones (5522), so what I think is that they needed that one to connect, and gave me non-connecting 5518 (cat 8). I literally did not know until I checked into the port and in fact my suitcases were delivered to 5522 since those were the tags I put on (since it was just two doors down, it was no problem to find them!).

Hey, whatever works! :) I for one would be upset if I was moved from one of the SPH rooms to deck 2. Decks 5-7 would be just fine though.

Well, "better" is a pretty subjective thing. If the term referred to obstructed versus unobstructed......well, yes, unobstructed would generally be better.

But, for some, like myself, the location has to do with it as well.

I totally agree -- I really like the deck 5 location of the SPRs . . .

Me too... we had 5020 on the Wonder and have 5520 on the upcoming Magic cruise. Could you decline an upgrade? I'd really only want an upgrade if it was still on Deck 5. We loved the location!!!! (And couldn't beat that SPH price!)

Agreed. We've been in cat 8's twice and on our most recent cruise had SPH rooms on deck 5. We specifically do not book down on the lower decks and would not consider it an upgrade at all if were were moved from a SPH room down to deck 1 or 2. Not saying there's anything wrong with deck 2...it's just our personal preference to be more 'centrally located' on the ship with regard to the floor we stay on.

I have to disagree! We had connecting SPRs on our last 2 cruises and I would have been highly disappointed if we would have been 'upgraded' down to deck 2. The obstruction really isn't a big deal at all... and we absolutely loved Deck 5! Being so close to the kids' clubs and never needing to take an elevator was absolutely wonderful! These rooms are coveted for a reason! ;)
