National car rental in Port Canaveral?

Has anyone recently used National car rental in Port Canaveral? I understand they do not have a free shuttle back to the port, but how far away are they & how much of a hassle is it? When I try to book online, the only option I can seem to find is at the Melbourne airport. Is that correct?

I know othe companies are more convenient, but DH uses Nat'l for work all the time, so that's why we would like to use them& take advantage of the points we've built up.

Thanks for any insight you may have!

We haven't used them but we have friends who did last April. We drove him over to the National spot in Cocoa Beach and it wasn't even open yet! They had to wait about 15-20 minutes for someone to show up and this was after we had gotten off, my DH took the shuttle to Avis, picked up our car and then picked us up. We love using National when going to WDW but I wouldn't do it for a cruise.

I've used National, Budget and Avis in Port Canaveral and will continue to use whoever is the cheapest except National. In my experience they don't answer their phones and rarely have smaller cars and instead of giving you the upgrade like anyone else, try to charge you for the higher class car. My company used to use National as a preferred vendor but dropped them a while back. Too many problems. I used to travel several times a year on business and have had a number of bad experiences at National.

We just returned from 4 night cruise and used Budget to get from the airport to the port. They were the cheapest for that leg. I'd reserved from Avis since they were the cheapest for the way back and when I dropped the car off in Port Canaveral, Budget beat Avis's rate by a couple of bucks so I canceled that Avis reservation. We waited maybe 5 minutes at the port when we returned for the Budget shuttle.

I've never been impressed with any of the car rental companies service in the Orlando airport but National has impressed me the least.

National car rental no longer existed here in Cocoa Beach or Merritt Island - they have moved all their business to the airport in Melbourne, Fla and is about 30 or so minutes from the port.
Sorry
always
