Saturday 15th Nov

We had booked breakfast for 7.00am to be able to get into the park early for EMH but when I woke up I couldn’t face breakfast and neither could Charys so DH went on his own while we tried to tear ourselves out of bed. DH had already been on the Air France website and found our flight home was cancelled so wanted to try and phone them to sort something out before heading to the park. By the time he returned Charys and I were almost ready. He had not been able to sort anything for the flight as they wouldn’t confirm the flight was cancelled and just said to phone them later in the day so we decided to just try and enjoy the day and not worry too much about it.

We went down to catch the bus but think we’d just missed one as we had to wait a while. We got the bus at 8.10 and reached the park soon after, through bag check, flashed our APs and went in.
We saw the old fashioned bus so climbed on that to hitch a lift down Main Street to the Castle. We walked through the castle and headed for Peter Pan which we rode 3 times. I would never queue for this but enjoy riding it several times during EMH as the more I ride it the more my eyes adjust to the dark. We then rode Dumbo twice, the Carrousel and Snow White before heading over to Discoveryland to go on Buzz. As usual DH won but Charys managed to beat me so at least that pleased her.

We then decided to go to Cable Car Bakehouse for a drink and something to eat – Charys and I had a Pain au Chocolat and DH had a Mickey Brioche. We like going in for EMH as it gets most of the Fantasyland rides out of the way which we enjoy doing but wouldn’t queue for.

Our plan of action next was to queue to get into Frontierland and race like mad to BTM. Charys and I were going to join the queue while DH got FPs for another turn. We queued at the end of Discovery Arcade where there were only 1 or 2 others but then more people joined us. We waited for rope drop then ran like mad (well we didn’t really because I know you’re not meant to so we just walked very very quickly which to some people would look like a run!!!!!!) – it’s a long time since I ran (sorry walked so fast) so had to stop but DH carried on and got in the queue. We then took his place while he went for FPs. As soon as he went the queue started moving onto the ride so he couldn’t rejoin us but it didnt matter because we’d assumed he wouldn’t anyhow. It moved very quickly and we didn’t actually stop until we got to the top of the stairs so it was worth the sprint. Looking out onto the queue it was really busy. We really enjoyed the ride as usual and were excited about being able to do it again with the FPs. DH had got the first FPs of the day and got 2 lots each for us (one with APs and one with the Ebay FPs). It wasn’t long til they could be used so we decided to just go and wait as there wasn’t time to do anything else. Again we really enjoyed it and as soon as we got off went to use the next lot of FPs which means we got to ride it 3 times in a row and the queue was showing 120 mins.

By now it was 11.00 and we had a lunch reservation at Café Mickey at 12.00 so we decided to head out of the park and do some browsing in the shops in the Village. We couldn’t believe the number of people pouring into the park – they were coming from all directions in hordes.

Anyhow we browsed in the shops and found a few things we wanted to get- Charys had her eye on a limited edition Christmas Winnie the Pooh.

We had decided to tell Charys the evening before that she was going to Café Mickey and having a birthday cake as when we went there in summer she got so excited she was ill and we didn’t want it to happen again so we thought we’d prepare her beforehand.

We were first to be seated and had time to look at the menu and order before any characters came out. We were in a good place - opposite where the characters appear from so could see them coming out.

First out was Mickey, then King John, Minnie, Donald and Daisy. All came to our table apart from Daisy and seemed to stay long enough for photos and autographs. We tried to catch Daisy but she disappeared before we could.
Food arrived – steak for DH and myself and meatballs and pasta for Charys. Whilst we were eating the first group of characters disappeared and Chip and Dale and Goofy appeared.
We had a lovely meal and when the waitress brought the dessert menu for us to look at she mouthed to DH about bringing the birthday cake. He nodded so we could see her getting Chip, Dale and Goofy together. The music started and the cake was brought over. Lots of other people in the restaurant were singing and clapping. Charys really enjoyed it but wouldn’t stand up to dance with Chip and Dale. Goofy took the cardboard frill from the cake and placed it on Charys’ head like a crown.
It was great fun and as I say Charys really enjoyed it – it was a shame we didn’t ask to wait until Mickey came out again but we didn’t think at the time. It was also really nice that all the time we were in there wasn’t another birthday so that made it even more special.
The cake was lovely and what was left was put in a box for us to take away complete with candles and holders.
By now the first lot of characters had come out again so DH asked the waitress if Daisy could come over as we’d missed her first time so she went to ask her and she came over straight away. Charys was delighted as she thought Daisy had come especially as she knew it was her birthday.

We’d had a great time at Café Mickey and Charys had really enjoyed herself.

We decided to head back into the park.
It was really, really busy getting back into the park and people seemed to be pouring in from all directions. Just as we got onto Main street we heard the music and realised it was about to snow so we stood there enjoying being snowed on.

We looked in some more shops on Main Street including the sweet shop and then headed towards Discoveryland to watch the Lion King show. We really love this show and I’m very disappointed that it’s no longer on. We had good seats near the front and as usual it was excellent.

We then decided to find a place to watch the parade and decided to stand just a bit further down from Bella Notte. The parade was good with the addition of the Christmas bit at the end but we were disappointed that there were no reindeers this time like last year and the Christmas bit seemed very short.

As soon as the parade had finished DH thought it would be a good idea to try and phone Air France to see if we could find out what was happening with our flights home. There were some phone boxes just near where we were standing so we went over there.
Bad idea – have you ever tried using the phone and listening to a recorded message in French with the parade music still playing very loud in the background? It was impossible to hear anything and at one point I couldn’t even tell if there was anything being said or not. It was also extremely busy.
We quickly realised it was a bad idea so tried to head away from the crowds who had been watching the parade towards a Small World and some rides. We were hoping to get to Frontierland. However it was so crowded – no one could move at all. Everyone was just standing still so we turned round and went towards the castle. It was less crowded this way but as soon as we reached the central hub it became really crowded again as the parade had just passed this point and so everyone was moving away. It was a case of just moving with the crowds except the crowds were going in all directions so no one could move. What annoys me most is when someone pushes into the crowd, starts to walk but then after a few steps stops to wait for everyone else in their group causing everyone else to stop and wait.
We cut in front of the castle towards Adventureland but the crowds were horrendous. It was much worse than mid summer when we have been and also worse then when we were there last Christmas. I made sure DH had got hold of Charys and I just pushed my way through knowing they would eventually catch up with me.

It was a relief to reach the entrance into Adventureland where the crowds thinned out slightly. Needing to recover from the chaos we decided to go into Hakuna Matata for a hot chocolate.
DH queued for the drinks whilst Charys and I found a table and sat and wrote a couple of postcards we had bought to send. We like the theming in this restaurant but have never actually eaten there. Service was very slow though and it seemed to take ages just to get a couple of drinks.

There were massive queues everywhere so we knew there would be little chance of getting on any rides so we wandered towards Mickeys Winter Wonderland show another show we really enjoy.

We also tried to phone the airport again from the phone near Big Thunder Mountain and this time managed to be able to hear but it was an automated service. We managed to find the English option but all it kept telling us was to press certain buttons to get onto other things. We followed their instructions and it confirmed our flight was cancelled and that it was the last one of the day. It gave us the option to check earlier flights which we did and one was running as normal so it then asked if we wanted more info on this flight. We chose that option expecting it to tell us if there was available seats but all it did was tell us the type of plane, the size of the engine, the arrangements of seats etc. To be honest all we anted was to be able to get home and I certainly couldn’t care less about the seat arrangements.
I think we may possible have done Phantom Manor at this point but Im not certain or more likely we thought about it and then saw the queues however I do know we headed back quite early to the hotel as the crowds were getting unbearable and we were also still unsure whether we were going to get home the next day. I wasn’t too bothered if we were stranded as I’d deliberately not arranged anything important for work on the Monday but DH had an important event he had to attend so was getting quite concerned about getting back.

We got back to the hotel and relaxed with a cup of tea and a bit of DIS browsing (I love the fact it was free wifi in the Kyriad ) while DH went down to the reception and they tried to phone the airport but couldn’t get through. Again all they could get was the info we already had.

We decided to go to the DLH for a cocktail and some retail therapy so headed back out. However when we reached the hotel there seemed to be hordes of people coming out even though the park was still open for an hour so we decided to go back into the park for a while instead. However as soon as we got in we realised that it might have been a mistake as the park itself was still heaving. Thinking about it now we should maybe have headed into Frontierland or somewhere as it may have been quieter there. We looked in some of the shops on mainstreet and bought some things we wanted and then decided to go to Caseys for something to eat.
We found a table in Liberty Arcade and Charys and I sat there making notes for out TR while DH went to get the food.

After we had eaten we headed out of the park again into DLH. As we walked in the door we knew that next time we came we would be staying here but Charys didn’t know that.
We went up to the bar and managed to get a seat actually in the bar – it’s the first time we’ve managed this as usually we have sat in the section between the bar and the restaurants. DH and I both had cocktails but Charys didn’t want anything. I forgot to write down what we had but they were both really nice.
We looked in the shop in the hotel and then as we walked through the village made a few last minute purchases as we needed to pack everything that night.
We got back to the hotel, packed and collapsed into bed exhausted and ready for another early morning.

Your so lucky to see Daisy at CM, i never knew she made apperances there.

Sounds like a busy day, has it put you off going back at Christmas with the crowds?

Not really as I love Christmas anyhow but I think id go nearer Christmas next time as it was so early and I couldnt really get in the christmas mood.
If Ive to cope with Christmas crowds Id rather it was when I was in the Christmas mood

no - I really missed the Disney Music on Mainstreet. I love Christmas and love Christmas at Disney so it was nice to see it again but it just seemed to early to me.
I wish they had had a mixture of Christmas music and Disney music

wow that sounds like a busy day. i would love to go at christmas this year but would have to find the quietest time

It must have been a bit unsettling, not knowing what was happening the next day with your flight. :scared:

Sounds like you had a good day, despite this though.

A busy day, shame it was slightly spoiled by you trying to find out about your flight.

What a lovely birthday meal for Charys. Shame about the uncertainty over your flights, it must have been worrying.
