Don't Like the New Games Policy

I'll admit it, I'm addicted to midway games. At Six Flags, I knew how to win the hoola hoops and quater pitch so our house was overrun with giant stuffed critters. At USF, I stick with 'chance' games (ring toss and goblet pitch), although I've been lucky enough on the goblets to get the biggie a few times, usually during HHN when I have to haul a giant Gingy or Dragon or whatever through all the houses. But now they've changed it from a set number of balls to "pitch till you win" and upped the number of small prize goblets. Ugh! Little kids might like that because they're always going to get something, but it makes it nearly impossible to get the big prize now because you're going probably going to hit small within the first couple pitches and then you're done. It worked well the other way for years...why change it now? They're gonna get less of my money for sure now.

The games are fun but it's cheaper to just buy the plush toy in one of the stores. I can't imagine how much money people blow on trying to win those animals only to have to lug them around all day.

For me, it's not the prize but the challenge. I actually get annoyed when I win a small or medium because I have to haul it around. It usually gets given away to a kid at the park or tossed into the collected and donated to charity when I get enough.

The only ones I keep are the big ones if it happens to be something I like (I have the entire Shrek gang and a purple cat from Mardi Gras). Good thing about the big ones is that there's a place you can drop 'em off and pick 'em up at the park entrance on your way out. But I don't think they offered that service during HHN, so my dragon and Gingy went through a lot of haunting with me. Now I've got my sights set on the giant Brian (from Family Guy).

I am not a frequent poster and don't know why your post caught my eye, but I've got to say when one comments about the size of stuffed animals won playing midway games, life must be good.

I think I might be a little jealous.

I dont play the games but I have bought big toys/plush dolls before and you don't have carry it around with you. I think you can take it to a store and they can take to the front of the park for you to pick up when you leave.

Do you know if you can buy the cute sharks in Amity hoodies anywhere in the park? I wanted one SO bad when I was there in October, but I didn't want to waste my money trying to win one, and I didn't see them for sale at any of the Jaws merchandise carts.

Lost and Found provides a free service called 'gratuitous bailment'. This lets you drop off any item (especially those big or not so big stuffed animals) and pick them up when you are leaving.

You sign a form to check it in and then must show an ID to pick it up later.

In addition to the obvious things like stuffed animals you might win, people have be known to bring their luggage. Yup, we hold even that! It is really convenient if you are on your final day (at an offsite hotel) and already 'checked out' of your hotel and are leaving the park directly for the airport.

Batons, wedding dresses, kosher food, a bike, a photocopier (don't ask) have all been checked in for holding!

Bring your most amusing item to lost and found and have us hold it! We need the giggles!!!

Tell Ya what as far as games go,my DW is a expert at the grabber games at the arcades..We were at IOA several weeks back and within $4 she had a digital picture frame..

Now the bigger ones she almost got a PS3,but after $10 I cut her off..I think they put vaseline on the big stuff like that,so I told her!!

The grabbers...yikes...my family has those in our blood, and DH seems to have gotten the talent by proxy. When I was a kid, we would go to a county fair where they had old-style cranes so I cut my teeth on those. The new-style grabbers are easy by comparison (unless they are adjusted to have no grip at all...so many places are starting to do that now...there was a Wal-Mart around here that actually had signs in their grabbers saying "We believe in fair play. These are adjusted so winning is possible" to alert people that they actually had some grip!).

Oh, and for anyone who lives near a park with the quarter toss, here is the trick:

Toss that sucker nearly straight up in the air so it lands nearly straight down. It will still have some "slide" but will loose much of its momentum. That's why so many people hang big stuffed animals around the roof, to prevent you from getting the height. If the plates are close enough together, it might still slide one or two down but won't have enough momentum to slide all the way down and off. It took me a few quarters, but I won every time we visited Six Flags Great America. I wonder if they still have that game.

I used to be addicted to those as a kid! In those days the prizes were only stuffed toys - most of which would be given to our friends dog when she visited. Of course I then saw Toy Story and felt really guilty when the had the scene in Pizza Planet with "the claw"

DS has the ring around the bottle toss down pretty well. Those engineering and physics classes are paying off :

He always wins on the second or third ring, so we have never spent more than the $5.00 bucket of rings.

The latest friend riding back to the Portofino with DH. Ds told his girlfriend he was bringing her back a teddy bear. She thought she was getting a nice, cuddly one. Not so much.

He will be really bummed when I tell him they have changed the rules of the games!
