I have never written a pretrip report before, but I'm giving it a go!! This report will be brief and kind of thrown together seeing as we leave in 5 days! I hope whoever reads it enjoys it, but either way it is a way for me to use my excited energy that is all built up from a trip that is less than a week away.

This update is sort of "Live" as I am currently throwing flip-flops and shorts in a suitcase haha! Let me introduce myself before I go further:

I'm Lauren, turned 23 yesterday, a grad student at UConn studying special education :teacher: . I intern at a kindergarten here in CT and LOVE school and teaching. I'm sorely missing my kiddos this holiday break! I work as a graduate research assistant for one of my professors. And I LOVE Disney, but isn't that a given here on the boards? I tried writing a report after our trip last january but school got in the way. I am determined to finish this time, though, because I have become increasingly addicted to others' reports and I'm very eager to complete my own.
I'll entertain you with my Yeti impersonation:

This report got its title because I recently moved back in with my parents after finishing my undergrad to save some money before I get a real (aka paid) teaching job and move out for good! They are Disney nuts as well, my entire immediate family is, so that is who I'm going with. We have gone every year since I was three, so this will be my 20th trip, plus a couple trips to Disneyland in between, but they hate going to WDW during the summer or any school breaks...so this is my last year that I can go with them around the holidays, and I'm considering it my last trip with them as a "Kid". :sad2: Although I can't complain too much, it is time to grow up :rotfl:

The other part of the cast for this TR are my siblings, DB and DS, 19 year old twins who are also in college and home for break. We are all going a little crazy living under one roof again, but we know that this trip will make us all happy and warm and fuzzy toward eachother again (here's hopin', hee hee!)

We are a very close family, and my fam has kindly welcomed with open arms our sixth fellow traveler, my boyfriend. He went to Disney growing up on school trips but never really experienced the magic until last year when he came for the first time with my family. Being with 5 Disney obsessed people made him fall in love with the place, and he has promised me that we can go back every year and keep up the tradition my parents started (even if they won't be joining us since we will have to go during busier times!) DBF is 22, a marketing associate for a company here in CT and we will be celebrating his first big promotion, which he just got last week! We are UConn and Red Sox nuts so don't be surprised if you see us wearing a lot of their merchandise in photos
Here is me and DBF on our last trip:

Ok so that's the cast...now on with the rest of the details! This year we are trying out Orange lake West Village. Normally we stay on property, but my grandparents have gifted us their week with their RCI membership. They usually stay at Vistana, but we decided to try something new. I'm bummed we're not staying on, last year we were at BWV and I fell in LOVE with it, but I'm excited to be going no matter what and have heard good things about OL.

We're staying Jan. 4-11th, and I could not be more excited! Hopefully that is a good start, I'm sure I'll think of lots more to add as the week goes on...right now I am off to Walmart to get some essentials:
gum, magazines, dr. scholl's inserts for my sneakers (I am such a baby when my feet get sore!), batteries for the camera (a new birthday gift from my parents :cool1: ), and any other random things I decide I must have for the trip.

Happy reading!!

Great trip report so far!!! You are so lucky that your time is almost here, I have to wait until the end of March! Have a great time and Happy New Year!!

Heatherhy01- Thanks for reading! Don't worry, March will be here before you know it.

OK, so on with the report. This trip has been very hard to plan (my mom and I do most of that since we are compulsive planners!) as far as which parks to go to on what days, mainly because we can't do EMH this year which we would normally use a lot. So we try to avoid parks on the days they have EMH to try and avoid crowds. Last year we went at this time and crowds weren't too bad, hopefully this year will be much of the same!

Here is the run down of what we'll be up to on our trip, I'll insert some pics from our last trip to keep it interesting ;)

Sunday, Jan. 4th: Fly out of Hartford at 8am. Eek, that means we'll be up at 430:scared: to be at the airport for six so we can jump in the Southwest Airlines cattle call. But it also means we'll be in Orlando around 10 so that is good! After we pick up the rental minivan at the airport, its off to Publix to stock up on food. We'll be doing breakfast at the condo most days not just to save money but because it is quicker and easier. We plan on heading to DHS after shopping and settling in at Orange Lake to hit up the last night of the Osbourne Lights. We'll probably do CS at Backlot Express for dinner, it's a fav of ours. Love all those cool props!

Monday, Jan. 5th: We have to be up early again to make our 8:30 Crystal Palace ADR, the one I am most excited about. Bring on the puffed french toast! This is a must do for the first morning of every trip for us. DBF loves Eeyore. Here they are last trip :rotfl: :

We'll be at MK all day, it's my fav. I particularly love Splash Mntn. but it will be down for refurb starting the day we get there, booo! Oh well, I also love BTMRR, Space Mntn., all things Adventureland, HM, and Peter Pan. We also plan on seeing Wishes, which I will prob cry through since I am a sap!

Tuesday, Jan. 6th:
Back to DHS this day. No ADRs planned so we'll probably do Pizza Planet and maybe walk over to Beaches and Cream for dinner. I'm dying to try their burgers and it will be a nice park break. Our faves at DHS are Tot, RnR, and Great Movie Ride...oh and we must visit Muppetvision 3D. This is DM's favorite park for the atmosphere and shopping so we'll be doing a lot of that too.

Wed., Jan. 7th: This day was supposed to be a pool day, but we ended up getting 7day hoppers so we'll be at Epcot for most of it. I can't wait for Soarin' and TT, and we want to spend a lot of time doing WS. We want to get lunch at the CS in Mexico, another tradition. Then we might drive over to Mickey's WinterSummerland. Minigolf is another vacation tradition and I looove all things Christmas so this place is my favorite. After that, we are planning to head to DTD to try TRex. Wow, our off day became very jam packed!!
Here's a shot of Illuminations we got last trip, might be skipping that show this year:

Thursday, Jan. 8th: This is our only AK day.
170481Disney_08_210.jpg

We are heading to AKL first for an 8:30 Boma breakfast. We've done dinner there a few times and loved it, and now we are eager to try breakfast, my favorite meal. I have heard great things and can't wait. Then its over to AK for the day to hit EE, KS, and ITTBAB, oh and all things Dinoland of course! Afterwards we'll head to DHS again for the 7pm showing of Fantasmic, which I haven't seen in a few years and am way excited for!

Friday, January 9th: This day is back to Epcot, my second favorite park for more of...everything! I am dying to get a Grand Manier slush in France after watching Samantha Brown so that is a must do! We have a 6pm Cape May Cafe ADR, we love the clambake and it's a quick walk over there so it should be a fun night!
170481Disney_08_011.jpg

Sat., Jan 10th: Our last full day :sad2: We'll be back at MK to soak it all up one more time. I must get a cinnamon roll at the bakery on Main Street because they are AMAZING! I also want to try a dole whip at MK at some point this trip since I've heard very good things about those as well. This night we have a 6:55 ADR for Whispering Canyon. I can't wait to see WL again, its so beautiful and I am dying to stay there, plus I heard WCC has great food and is very fun. Great for a silly family like us!

Sun., Jan. 11th: Time to head home (but I won't be as sad this time, because DBF and I will be back at the World in June! My parents are paying for half of the trip, it is my graduation gift since I am finished with my master's degree in May) We will be spending our morning at DTD doing some last minute souvenir shopping. I want to try Earl of Sandwich while we are there. Then its a quick dip at the pool before our 6pm flight out to snowy CT. Thank god I still have a week of winter break after we get home before school starts up again! :thumbsup2

So that is about it. A super fast look at our week, with all the important things. I spent my New Year's Eve doing laundry so I can finish packing (yes, I'm such a party animal!) DBF informed me today that he has to leave Jan. 12th, the morning after we get back, to head to Greensboro, NC for a business trip, so I will be driving him right back to the airport about 6 hours after we get back into Hartford! Ugh! I am a good gf, I keep telling myself that!

My Christmas gift to my mom this year was to preorder the Photopass CD :santa: , which we have never done before, so that is something new and exciting for this trip! She was thrilled about her gift, she loves having family photos and loves the ones the photopass photographers do, and now she can have hundreds of them! My dad is a photographer for a living so this gift also gives him a chance to put the camera down for a week and actually be IN the pictures! If anybody has tips on how to get the most bang for our buck with photopass, please share!

Ok, it is late and I have a busy few days ahead (hair cut, manicure, shopping for more trip stuff...i'm such a girly girl!) but I will try and update a couple more times with more details before we leave. Happy New Year dissers!!

We're back! I don't know if anyone is reading this but I am doing a trip report either way, we had an amazing time and I can't wait to share!

The highlight of our trip...DBF proposed!! :bride: We got engaged on Monday at the MK! It was perfect, very romantic and I will tell you all about that and more in my TR!

First, I have to unpack, do laundry, and go through all the pictures, but I promise to have an update up soon!

I just found this, but I'll definitely be in the for TR! Congratulations on your proposal!

And welcome home. :goodvibes

Found your pretrip report! Can't wait to read and hear about your engagement! Congratulations!!!!

Hello Everyone, and welcome to my trip report! I am super excited about this one because, as my title hints at: I got engaged!

I'm Lauren, 23 from CT, Disney lover since the age of 3, and if you want the background on this trip, check out my mini pretrip report here

My DBF, Kyle, and I have been together for 3.5 years and he popped the question during our trip. My whole family was there and in on it, it was a huge, wonderful surprise! Keep reading for all the details! We just got in last night and I can't wait to tell you all about it.

Let's get started
Part One, Traveling!
So our flight out was at 8am Jan. 4th. We all rolled out of bed (and I mean rolled, we are not morning people, but we are Disney people so it we were still excited!) around 4:30 so the six of us could get showers, finish the last minute packing, and get out of the cold, snowy weather of the north and head to the warm sunshine!

We drop off our car and take a shuttle to the airport, head to security, and DDad promptly discovers that he forgot his wallet. :scared1: Eek! Mom and I panic, how do you forget something like that?! But all he had to do was sign a paper and he was in, thank god. He just couldn't drive the rental car all week, but we still managed. Crisis averted thank god! We headed to Dunkin Donuts for a much needed caffeine rush, I am a coffee addict so this was a must.:cloud9:

We only had to wait about an hour or so, I did crossword puzzles with DBF to pass the time before we boarded. The flight down was smooth and fast, we flew Southwest and got exit row seats with lots of leg room (we are a pretty tall family, including 6'5 DBF!) so that was nice. I love Southwest, their little jokes make the flight more fun! We touched down around 1030am and I was jumping out of my seat excited! We left 25 degree CT and it was 80 when we got to FL. After admiring the palm trees from the airport monorail thingy, we grabbed our bags, rented our minivan, and were on our way to Orange Lake! :)

My initial reaction to this place was that it was HUGE! Very pretty, but enormous. We had to drive to the pool everyday, and it was a good 5 min. drive just to leave the property. When we first got there we just checked in quick and changed into shorts (yay!) since it was only noon and the room wasn't ready. Checking in was annoying, since it is a time share, they hassled us to do a breakfast and take a tour, trying to sell us on the place. We aren't owners and if we were we'd do DVC, we just borrowed my grandparents' week, so they were mad when we refused. Overall I have to say the customer service as Orange Lake was terrible compared to Disney. It became a huge problem for us all week, but we didn't let is spoil our fun.

After checking in, we found a little marketplace onsite with pizza so we ate there quick since that 6am DD coffee and bagels didn't hold us so well haha. The food was actually very good. After that, it was off to MK for our first day in the parks! We were hoping to see the castle lights and get a ride in on Splash Mountain before it closed for refurb, but we weren't sure we would get to do either...

So, coming up: Do we get to see the lights or ride SM?? And when does this proposal come in? You'll find out! Plus, I promise there are lots of pictures to come, just none of us traveling, so stay tuned for those too!

I just found this, but I'll definitely be in the for TR! Congratulations on your proposal!

And welcome home. :goodvibes

Okay, I'm over here now! I asked in your PTR...when are you going in June?

And Congrats on the engagement

Thanks for the link in your PTR. :thumbsup2

I love the Southwest flight attendants - they always make me laugh. :rotfl:

Eek on your dad forgetting his wallet! :scared1: Glad it wasn't a big deal.

Too bad about the timeshare and the customer service. We've stayed at Windsor Hills off property and it was wonderful, but it's not a timeshare.

Can't wait to hear more. :goodvibes

Thank you!! Yay I'm so glad you found me! DBF and I are going for the first time, just the two of us, June 6-13. I will be finishing Grad school in May so we're celebrating in Disney :) Will you be there? I know from reading your TRs that you go in June too. That would be so cool if we were there at the same time!!

Congratulations! Can't wait to read more of your report. :yay:

Thanks! I should have more up today, it's my first day back at work and I need something to help me get through the post vacation disney withdrawls :rotfl:

You hooked me too!:surfweb:

Haha that is our traditional "bug eye" picture from Animal Kingdom...poor DBF was begging me to stop taking 3D glasses pictures by the end of this trip!
