We are going to Disney Feb 7-13th. I have one day planned for going to Universal. We are going to see Blue Man Group that evening. Is it possible to see both parks in one day or should I just buy the single park ticket? It will be me, hubby and our 2 boys (10 & 7).

Since you're doing BMG that night, I would just get the one park pass unless you want to be dead tired by the time the show is over. The two park ticket isn't a lot more than the one park ticket but unless you are only going to do minimal attactions at both parks, it would probably be too much running.

Agreed, you want to enjoy this, not feel rushed.

we normally dedicate 3 days! one for IOA, one for the studios and the third to do a combo of our favorite rides.

1 day isn't enough if you are a first timer! i would look into the rides in each park and decide which rides your family would like best and go with that one! its a tough choice though i don't envy you!

With proper planning and motivation you can easily do the majority of both parks in same day (especially in early Feb, which is not crowded). This would assume a few things: 1) you'd need to show up right at gate opening, and have a plan of what you want to do and what you are willing to skip...if the boys don't do the more intense rides, then your plan is easier, but if the whole family wants to do everything, then it's more challenging but not impossible; 2) the kids' resilience....if your boys can handle a very long day (early start, few breaks, then a show at the end of the day) then I say go for it...I speak from a theme park "commando" perspective, so this is not for everyone; 3) when your Universal day falls within your Disney week...don't minimize the importance of this factor...we find Disney a much more exhausting experience, so if you do Universal in the middle or towards the end of your vacation, you might not be up for doing both parks...my advice would be to do Universal early in the week, and certainly not the day after Animal Kingdom, which we find wipes us out the most.

Overall, I'd say take the approach of maximizing your vacation time within reason. If you're like us, we have limited opportunities to visit Orlando, so we try to see/do as much as possible in the time we have. Anyway, our theory is that if we wanted a trip with down time or a slower pace, we would go somewhere else.

Have fun!

My cousin and I managed to do both parks in one day. We went to IOA and finished all of it except for Popeye and Dudley in 3 hours. It took us a bit longer at the Studios but we ended up going back to IOA and doing repeats and riding Dudley before the park closed. It was August, the week before I and most of Florida went back to school.

I suppose if you got lucky you could, but it'd probably just be best to take it slow. You're lucky you get to stay for a few days! I can only take a day trip once or twice a year and try to cram everything in! ;)

Thanks for you imput. Both parks in one day might be too much since we are going to a show that evening. My boys will not ride the intense rides but I will so I need to decide which park. They both look like a lot of fun.

Both parks ARE a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever one you choose. If you have any specific questions, don't hestitate to ask.

Do at least two days because it will most likely be very busy since this is during speed weeks in daytona which makes it incredibly crowded in orlando. Also you wont feel rushed to do everything and can enjoy your time in universal more. Have a great trip.
