We are checking in on a sunday using our points, but we'd really like to fly in on Saturday. What is the best option pricewise to stay onsite that saturday night? A room only reservation? How do passholder discounts work? Is there a discount for being a DVC member?

HELP!

You can get a DVC Member cash discount through MS. Give them a call and check it out.

I'm curious about this too. Is the DVC member cash discount good at any resort or only at DVC resorts? Please explain more.

..just the DVC resorts and not available all the time. It's 25% off the rack rate. If you have a few points left you could try to score a BWV std studio for like 20 points or an AKV value studio. Great way to see the other resorts!

The member cash discount isn't always available, but usually you can get it. It is 25% off rack rate at DVC Resorts only. They must be booked through Member Services.

For one night, we usually try to get a room only passholder discount at POP Century. The rooms have 2 full sized beds, and aren't really "roomy" but, for us, they work fine for a night or two (wouldn't want to spend the entire trip there). POP has, IMO, a much better food court area, and better overall staff, than the All-Star Resorts, if you are looking at a Disney Value resort.

For cash reservations at non-DVC resorts, you'll need to call the regular Disney Reservation line.

I think it depends on what you want to spend and what type of unit/which resort you ar staying at. Cheapest will be off site but that will preclude ME. Cheapest onsite will be a value resort. The best value is likely the same room type you have (if available) as a cash discount through MS, esp since it's a weekend night. A studio at the resort you're staying at would likely be my second choice if you have a larger unit but can fit into a studio.

Well..the problem with a studio or value room is we are a group of 6. We have 4 kids coming along!

Second Question and probably more important! Is the 25% off only available in conjuction with a DVC points reservation? The reason I ask is because our trip is booked with developer points. Do you think we can still get the discount even if our reservation isn't with our DVC points?

I'm thinking 25% off a two bedroom rack rate is gonna be pretty expensive. Our best bet is probably two rooms at Pop or something. So in that case we can utilize a passholder discount!

Now if only the flights would cheapen up!

Members should be able to use the 25% DVC Resort discount, and book on cash through MS, whether they have a points reservation or not. Assuming the discount is available for your travel dates.

If it were me, I would try for a family suite @ ASM using the passholder discount. The rates are insanely cheap right now & you might just get lucky to get it for one night...people cancel their reservations all the time last minute!

We do this most of the time. We'll fly in on Friday or Saturday, and spend our first night at one of the values to save some points. We actually like the values (staying at Pop one night in April, and ASMo in July). But, I have to admit that I miss our king bed!!! :goodvibes

As for discounts, there were no discounts for values or moderates. The only discount I could have received was through AAA. Because DH is a teacher, we could have gotten a dicounted rate at Swan/Dolphin, but I wasn't interested.

I'm sure the price would be more for a 2 BR but you wouldn't have to move resorts and lose the time and aggravation doing so. Your cheapest option would stll be off property for a suite or 2 units. But the 25% off is off rack rates, if you can get an AP rate that's cheaper you might or might not have to change units.
