AKV Questions

I'm sure this has probably been discussed at length but the search feature isn't working for me again. :(

I'm booking our first trip home for the end of August. It seems that I can book a AKV Value 1 Bdr for 9 nights for the same pts amount as 7 nights in a Standard 1 Bdr. So my question is what is the difference? Would you book a value for a family of 5 (mom, dad, 5 yr old, 4 yr & 2 yr old)?

We are used to close quarters, travel a lot & in the past have either stayed at FW Cabins or POR.

Any information would be appreciated as I'd like to get this secured today. Thanks. :)

I've been looking at these myself so here's the info on the 1 bdr's straight from WDWInfo.

Animal Kingdom Villas Rooms

One Bedroom

* Value category rooms can accommodate a party of 4, all other rooms can accommodate a party of 5 (plus child under age 3 in crib)
* Master bedroom with king size bed
* Master bathroom with whirlpool tub
* Second bathroom in Kidani Village guestrooms only
* Queen size sleep sofa in living room
* Sleeper chair in living room (not available in Value rooms)
* Flat panel TV and DVD player
* Fully equipped kitchen
* Stacked washer/dryer
* Private balcony
* 629 - 710 square feet in Jambo House
* 807 square feet in Kidani Village[/I]

It looks like if you can book a standard 1 bdr at Kidani and get a room that sleeps 5, a sleeper chair and a sleeper sofa in the living room, and a second bathroom. The value 1 bdr only sleeps 4 and has one bathroom and one sleeper chair.

Hope this helps! :)

value is for family of 4 only - it is a lot smaller.

plus with standard you can go to Jambo house or Kidani

the 1-bedroom is very different.

Jambo house had 1-bathroom and the tub is combination not separate.

Kidani has the separate whirlpool tub and shower stall - but also another bathroom.... that for a family 5 would be a good thing.

As kaffinito posted, the Value 1BRs are the smallest at 629 sq feet. Occupancy is lower for those rooms as well (4 plus a child under 3 vs. 5 plus a child under 3 for non-Value 1BRs because of the sleeper chair in the non-Value 1BRs). The Jambo House Standard View/Savanna View/Concierge 1BRs are 710 sq feet and the Kidani Village Standard View/Savanna View 1BRs are 807 sq feet.

If you get a Value, you will have a king bed in the master BR, a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living area and a pack'n'play for the 2 year old. If you get a Standard View 1BR, you will have a sleeper chair in the living room in addition to everything else. If you get a Standard View 1BR in Kidani, you also get a second full bathroom.

They all have the same large furniture (except perhaps the large kitchen island which I've heard is not provided in at least some of the Value 1BRs) which might make it a bit cramped for setting up the pack'n'play for your 2-year-old and finding places to stash luggage, strollers, etc.

So it comes down to a longer vacation in somewhat cramped quarters or a shorter stay with more room and possibly a second bathroom as well if you book Kidani rather than Jambo House. The downside to booking at Kidani is that there is no counter service restaurant in that building and the walk over to Jambo House to eat at The Mara could be 1/2 mile or more from your room. Also, all of the Standard View rooms in Jambo House face the pool area. The Standard View rooms in Kidani could have a view of the pool, garden, the driveway or parking area.

We had 3 adults in a value 1 bedroom, and I think you would be fine in it with your aged children sleeping wise. However, for the 5 of you, I would go with Kidani standard view for the 2nd bathroom.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! That information is so helpful.

Just another few questions...

Are all the value rooms in Jambo? Am I right that some have Savanna views?

When I book can I request Jambo or Kidani?

Any other tips for booking at AKV? Preferred locations to request?

Only Jambo House will have Value and Concierge Rooms. Values can have either a pool, savanna or parking lot view. You can request a view but it will be just that, a request.

If you are booking a Standard or Savanna View, you have the choice of Jambo House or Kidani Village based on availability. The location is confirmed at the time of the reservation and you will check-in at that location.
