Jersey to WDW

Hey everyone,

DGF (19) and I (21) will be driving from Central Jersey to Pop Century. Its a 17 hour drive. We are leaving around 8 oclock on 6/22 and hopefully arriving early afternoon on 6/23. Does anyone know how much itll cost me in tolls? Any other tips for the trip would be fantastic. Thanks!

That is a good time to leave, as you will clear Richmond long before the morning rush, after that it is easy till Jacksonville and you will be hitting that around mid morning so that is good also. If you are running 95 I think it is less than $25 both ways for tolls.

Sorry I can't answer your exact question as I haven't driven to FL since I was a teenager over 20 yrs. ago. I do recall we tried to leave early in the am but ended up not as early as we had planned.
We ran smack into Wash DC rush hour and it was AWFUL! Whatever you do, avoid that if you can. I think we left Cherry Hill around 6 or 7 am.

Tolls on I95 from NJ south,

NJ turnpike the entire route is about $8.00 depending on time of day, Delaware Memorial Bridge is $3.00 and the Delaware Turnpike is $4.00 and the either Baltimore Harbor tunnels (Ft McHenry and BHT) are $2.00.

Going home,

$2.00 for the Baltimore tunnel, $5.00 for the Maryland turnpike, $4.00 for the Delaware Turnpike and $8.00 for the NJ Turnpike.

If possible, try I-295 to the Del. Memorial Bridge instead of the Turnpike (and its tolls).

I am going to WDW the last week of May and the first week of June. I think I am going to drive this time since I am going for such a long stretch. Glad these threads are here.

Hope gas is still at a good price then. If not, I may fly.

We've done the overnighter from just north of Washington, DC many times. For us, it's 12 1/2 hours. You make pretty good time in the South where you routinely go 75 mph just to keep up with traffic. You should be hitting Washington around midnight and will see no traffic at that hour. We've had times at that hours when we were the only people on Rt. 95. After the Maryland toll you won't have any more tolls on Rt. 95. I think that you'll have no trouble making the early afternoon arrival. One piece of advise - don't drive if you are tired - it's dangerous for you and for others on the road with you. I always get some good sleep before I do an overnighter. Have a good time. You'll love the Pop Century.

I couldn't agree more!!! I work in radiology (besides the zillion car accident/trauma victims I've x-rayed over the years,) I was doing a lady's mammogram, just back from visiting WDW. (You know that giddy, happy feeling after you've just had your fill.)
It was obvious I had gotten some sun in the winter and the lady asked where I went away to. When I said WDW, she said, "UGH!" and explained to me how her daughter, son-in-law, and their 3 children drove down from PA to FL in their minivan, headed to WDW. They had taken turns driving but desparately wanted "to just get there" and not have the huge delay of stopping at a hotel to sleep. While the daughter was driving she fell asleep at the wheel and they crashed. They all survived except the daughter so now the poor kids have no mommy and the son in law is struggling to take care of the 3 kids. He has lots of family support but still so much grief for all to deal with.
Of course we were both crying our eyes out and needed a break before I could even finish her exam.

So please drive safely and if you feel sleepy, spend the $100 on a room!!!

btw, I think I have a sign on my forehead that says "tell me about how your child" died cuz this just reminded me of at least 2 others stories patients have told me just off the top of my head. Who says bartenders hear it all? I think it's mammographers! lol!
